This is actually a remake of an old baseball joke. It seems that Timmy had recently moved from Chicago to St. Louis. The teacher asked the class who everyone's favorite baseball team was. Everyone but Timmy said the Cardinals. Timmy said the Chicago Cubs. The teacher explained to Timmy that he lived in St. Louis now and his favorite team should be the Cardinals. Timmy said he didn't care, his grandparents were Cubs fans, his parents, aunts and uncles were all Cubs fans, and he will always be a Cubs fan. Clearly frustrated, the teacher said suppose your mother was a hooker and your father was a pimp? Timmy said they would be White Sox fans.

I was worried things would get even worse at the border with title 42 ending. But now that I know the president and vice president have been closely consulting on this I'm feeling better about the whole situation.

What's that that Irv says...oh yeah, what a mess.

Men are women.  Crooks are heroes.  Lazy are better than the working folks.  Bad credit is rewarded.  Crime is rewarded.  Illegals are treated better than veterans. Babies are murdered.   WTF?  The USA is now the bizzaro world.  What a mess.

My county is a test site for the latest NY state give away. New York is already the 3rd most...not sure what the word is....welfare friendly state behind only Vermont and Rhode Island. But apparently that isn't enough. Monroe county will be a test site for the next phase. Because apparently we're not giving away enough to those without jobs. So, in addition to the welfare checks and any other aid, 50 families will be receiving an additional $600 per month for a year. But not just any random welfare recipients. In order to be eligible to receive the extra $600, the recipient must have been the target of a DPS investigation for poor care of their child(ren.) Somehow the family will be tracked for a year to see if the kids are better fed etc. a year from now than before. Might want to track drug and liquor sales in the area of the recipients while they're at it.

I have a friend who is a studio musician in Toronto. He played keyboards and Hammond Organ on one of Gordon's records. Apparently, Gordon was very meticulous about instruments being in tune. He was known to tune a piano if he felt it was out. He would do multiple takes of each song, and keep the tape of all the takes. Even if he felt a take of a song was perfect, he would say, "Great job boys. That was perfect. Let's do it again".

In the video below his drummer Barry Keane tells the story of the tape used for the release of The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald. They were in studio doing a recording session and Gordon was talking about how he was almost finished with a song he had been working on about the wreck. One of the crew said why don't we give it a try now. Gordon agreed. Barry asked when he should come in, Gordon said he'd nod his head. Fortunately, they recorded the take as it was used for the release. Tried several times to improve on it but the first practice session tape was used for the release.

Prime Video offers a documentary from 2020 that I watched during the pandemic:  "Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind".  It was excellent. You can rent it now for $2.18.

Watched it last nite, thanks for the tip!

  5. One of my all-time favorites. Saw him a few years ago in Geneva, he was 79 at the time, He said that people learning to play guitar love his music because if they can learn 5 notes they can play every song he's ever written! Later that summer I was in Cape Cod and he was playing in a high school gymnasium. Guy just loved to entertain. Sad day, RIP.

This is where having a sharp caddie comes into play. I didn't see it but I'll have the Masters on today. I Did see the clip where the tree's just suddenly came down though... talk about random.

    Hoping Mickelson makes a push...

Or better yet, not having your playing partner's caddie be familiar with the rules. Do a search on Gavin Hall disqualified. A guy in his group's caddie sought out a rules official after the round, shortly after Gavin was DQ'd.Tried posting a link but this is what I get

Excruciating DQ hour after round ends pro's Q-School run (golf.com)

At this point Young is still playing so either I missed something or no one noticed the violation.

  7. His second shot on 13 went a little wild so he hit what he thought was a provisional. He then found his second shot in a penalty area and took relief under the 2 club length from point of entry option and finished out the hole from there. Problem is one of the relief options from a penalty area is to play from your original position. So his relief had already been taken and he no longer had the other (point of entry) options. Pretty sure you'll see him get DQ'd.

Similar thing happened to a local kid, Gavin Hall, in the Korn Ferry tour qualifier last year. Only difference was, after playing what he thought was a provisional, he found his original in a penalty area and played it where it layed, in the penalty area. He made par and signed for a 66, then found out he got DQ'd as he had already taken relief and no longer had the option of playing the original.

  8. Big fan, being my doppelganger might have something to do with that. Spent the last 40 minutes watching his interview with Piers Morgan on youtube, really interesting and painful life, starting with his mother trying to self-abort him twice. Hop he can finally find peace.

    Pretty interesting

Cuomo did a lot on him last nite, opened the show with 2 segments interviewing one of his defense attorney's. As you say, pretty interesting. The video of his voice with their dog seems to be the deciding piece of evidence as he claimed to be somewhere else. As an aside, been looking for a reasonable, moderate voice since O'Reilly left Fox. I'm shocked that I may have found it in Chris Cuomo.

  10. Colts game  2021.

Technical issues -Only time I ever used the phone option for tickets.  Total disaster. Got through the line 15 minutes  before game,  couldn't get tickets to load.  One of the staff tried to help,  finally got to my seats with 2 minutes left in the first quarter.

Weather issues-didn't rain pre game,  opted for not wearing rain pants. Don't think they would have helped much, 40 and raining all game

    Game itself-we got blown out

Not sure how "famous" he is, but I went through high school at St. Joe's and graduated with Vaughn Parker in 1989.

He was an all NY State phenom football player; went to UCLA; got converted to OLman; drafted by SD Chargers; played for many years as the starting left guard for the Chargers.

I can still see him walking down the hallway at school, wearing khakis, a button down, and a tie...and being a head taller and way bigger than anyone around; he was like 6'4" and 280 as a teenager.

Definitely famous enough for this topic!

    Especially considering...

I love some of these. Reminds me of my one buddy who went to school with all these x degrees of relations of semi-famous celebrities (for example, Terri Hatcher’s ex-husband and Marc Bulger’s sister-in-law).

Speaking of which, my nephews graduated from IHS in 2002 and 2004 and knew Rory McIlroy's wife, who graduated in 2003.

Live every day like it's the day by which you will forever be remembered.

Oh no no no! That BMI is bull. If you lift weights that thing will label you as obese. It's bull **it. I have a moderate level of fat, but since I have lifted weights since forever I have some muscle on me so it says I'm fat.

So let's stay away from the BMI

So I'm late to the party on this one, but want to relay something I was told decades ago. My co-worker was pushing 60 at the time, told me his HS freshman football coach (early to mid 50's for a time frame) told him not to worry about where he fell on the weight-height chart. He was going to see a lot of these charts during his life, don't pay attention to any of them!

Just shows that if we look hard, there's things we can all agree on.

That’s still a very common application. Public school campuses are one of the main targets. The company provides the structure and the panels and takes a cut of the energy savings. It’s call a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Unfortunately these type of financial deals are all based on the projection of the rate of increase in costs for electricity. They often go sour when the initial guess was overly aggressive.

Kind of like the initial guesses about the savings that would be generated from the ACA (affordable care act, aka Obamacare) and thereby reducing the overall cost of health care for everyone.

    Really, statistically?

What are the chances that he has dementia by 86 if he already has it now, doc?

TDS is a powerful affliction.  Seek help.

Statistically speaking, while I'm not sure of the exact breakdown, if you take the % of 80 year olds with dementia that still have it at 86, and add it to the % of 80 year olds with dementia that died before reaching 86, you will come up with 100%. Or was this a rhetorical question?

    Best Little *****house in Texas

Reminds me of something that happened in the 80's. Was living in Texas, girlfriend's mother took us to see this play. Her credit card bill that month said "Whorehouse - $90"

I'll add the soundtrack from the movie Prefontaine to those already mentioned.
