This is why I was so pissed at McDermott last year when the idiot passed on Mahomes and Watson.

Tre White’s a good player but he’s a CB. CB’s don’t lead teams to Super Bowls, ask the Jets.

McDermott F$&@ed up huge last year at the draft. What an idiot. I can’t believe how badly the process misread the tea leaves.

I can't believe how much smarter you are than our entire coaching staff and front office.  What was your job again?

Unkess we can trade him behind the scenes ala Smith.

Here's why I think this is the case.

    1.  Cousins is not coming here.  He will end up in Denver or NYC.

    2.  Cost to trade up will be too high.  Especially if they aren't sold that one of these guys are the next elite AN.

    3.  We have more holes than qb.  If we trade up we would put a rookie out there with a ****ty team and we know how that turns out.

    4.  Bradford and Bridgewater are NOT upgrades.  Before wasting money on them we have to ask.  Are they really better.

Draft well...sign some people to plug holes and this team will make playoffs again and have more money and options next year for draft.  That's my take...

I agree with most of what you said except #4. I would consider either Bradford of Bridgewater an upgrade over TT.  Bradford when healthy is in fact pretty good.  The problem is he can't stay healthy and it would be hard to depend on him without a decent backup.

This is a very real and natural place to go after hearing the news but one of the things that's really starting to turn me off about football. I don't blame you at all for starting the thread and it's a discussion to have but brutal to hear about a guy being forced into retirement and having this be one of the first items we are forced to turn to as a fanbase or organization.

I don't get it.  Nobody is being disrespectful to Eric Wood.  Knowing that he won't be here, it's natural for people to start wondering "What do we do now at center?"  It's just speculation on where the team will go in his absence.  Everyone here wishes him and his family well moving forward, but he will have to be replaced by someone.

What is it about Daboll that led McDermott and Beane to hire him as OC?

Plenty of NFL experience as an OC and play caller.  Knows the AFC East and particularly NE.  Led the offense of the National Champions this year.  WNY ties, U of R grad.  Patriots will most likely lose both OC and DC and probably would have been interested in bringing back Daboll.  Should I go on?  Makes absolute perfect sense to hire this guy.

I didn't say he "fit" any offense. Believe me, I'm really looking for ward to his departure. I know his shortcomings. You know his shortcomings...but appears Dennison does not. There are things Taylor does do that aren't bad...and Dennison rarely took advantage of any of them. That's what I was speaking about...Dennison not Taylor.

His play calling is awful, he doesn't comprehend how to call plays that set something up later in the game. He does not suit anything to who is on the field. His play calls in the last 2 minutes of a half or game are just epically bad. He needs to go.

I think we're in agreement.  Both TT and Dennison need to go.

  6. It wouldn't have mattered.  Bills didn't deserve to win.  3 points ain't gonna beat anybody on any day.  Peterman was not going to lead us to a game tying TD.  TT sealed this one with his poor play throughout the day.  You can pretty much watch him in the first half of any game and figure out if the Bills are going to win.  This one was obvious.  He just didn't have it yesterday or for most of the season for that matter.

He doesn't "open it up" because he simply doesn't know how. He doesn't "protect" players in the slightest. How is calling a Tolbert sweep protecting? The guy is simply in over his head. I will agree in some aspects Taylor doesn't help matters, but he could fit a Shannahan offense if they tweeked it some.

Taylor couldn't "fit" in any offense.  He is too slow to react and too slow to read defenses.  That's why all the check downs.  Add to that the fact that he can't hit wide open receivers and you have Taylor summed up.

3 first rounders and a 2nd for a raw kid?  I like Allen but that's a lot for a kid who needs work.

Who knows but I would not be ok with this scenario.  That's too many picks for an unknown.  You don't hit on him this franchise is set back years.

I did my first mock draft yesterday and it took both first rounders and a second rounder to trade up to number 5.  I took Lamar Jackson from Louisville.

Will see what the excuses are when Taylor is not the QB. I think Dennison did not help his case this year with how conservative and unimaginative the offense was this year. However, he will probably end up getting a pass unless McDermott brings in Mike McCoy like he wanted to when he got hired.

We'll see.  I don't believe there would be nearly as much criticism of Dennison if he had even an average QB to work with.  Hard to tell because Taylor was just so inept.

You think so?  McD has a lot of learning to do as shown this year by some really awkward decisions.

All coaches are constantly learning and trying to get better if they're any good at all.  He managed to do what no other coach has done for this team in a very long time.  And he did it on his first try.  I'd say he's pretty good at what he does already.  Can he get better?  Of course, we all can.

And the bills decide to kick the fg. It ended up working out when Jacksonville jumped offsides but this is the story of McDermott for the year. Play not to lose. If you trust your d which you should have this game you go for it and if you do t get it hold the jags to a 3 and out backed up in their own end then the 3 would still be there before the end of the half. This guy has 0 balls and has a loser mentality in my opinion. Meanwhile the jags go for it on fourth and short and get a td. Thanks McDermott.

LOl I don't even know where to begin.  This is quite possibly the funniest post I have seen in a long time.  Almost every coach in the NFL kicks the field goal in that situation.  This coach that "plays like a loser" led this team to their first playoff appearance in over 20 years.  I think he has a pretty good idea what he's doing.

How many throws were catchable or drops?  What about Clay stepping out of bounds before the ball arrived?  That is NOT acceptable for your high-paid FA TE.

I'm not saying TT is all that and a bag of chips, but the whole O needed to step up and they didn't.

McCoy had game, the OL did ok against a brutal D.

TT left some throws on the field, but he also made some throws.

In particular, I thought our WR showed bush-league.  When you have Romo saying "that was actually a good throw by Taylor", those need to be caught.

I don't have all-22 but I'm counting at least 6 Taylor throws that should have been completions.

Plenty of blame to go around.

We'll have to agree to disagree.  Just one example of what I'm talking about.  Bills lost by 7.  TT missed a wide open O'Leary in the end zone.  That's just one of many missed throws.  Yes there were other players that made mistakes, but the QB has got to be able to get the ball to a receiver when he's wide open.  TT has consistently proved that he can't do it over 2 seasons.

well--hard to argue there...but sometimes a baptism by fire shows whether a guy is a winner

yes we do.....but we dont win at PITT or NE. and if we sign one of them for a zillion bucks then we wreck our future-- we need a franchise QB in here---not an old Alex Smith and a non-winner Cousins

Maybe not NE because they are just a better team, but I'd take our chances vs. Pittsburgh with either Smith or Cousins.

i think it has way more to do with things other than arm strength although arm strength is a factor. The bills organization---with its new guys in place--have to get a real QB in thru the draft. And forget Cousins and Smith----they are an improvement but would still frustrate the hell out of us.

I'll take either one of those guys.  We win this game today with either of those guys at QB.

    Same here.

Competent QB play wins that game.    The player personnel department better make the right decision on whether FA  or the draft is the best way to address that position.

Completely agree.  That was a very winnable game.  TT just wasn't up to the task.  He played just like he has most of the time he's been the starter.  Held the ball too long.  Missed wide open WR's.  Terrible performance.

While I don't like to be Grinch-like and am, in fact, super enthused right now, I feel like I should mention something that concerns me.

Someone (PFF?) once did an analysis that determined that turnover differential is a stat that doesn't typically sustain from year to year.

Teams that are statistically good (or  bad) on offense or defense are likely to be good (or bad) the following year.  Turnover differential, on the other hand, seems to go up and down almost randomly from season to season.

If we want to continue earning playoff berths, we're going to have to become proficient at something less fickle than turnovers.

Just enjoy the playoff game and stop worrying about stupid ****.  They made it.  Who cares how they made it?  This team will be better next year than this and will continue to improve and be consistent as long as McDermott is HC.  This team was not supposed to make the playoffs.  People were picking them to win 4 or 5 games.  They won 9 and made the playoffs in the first year of this new Coach/GM tandom.  I am extremely optimistic about the future of this team, regardless of turnover ratio or any other statistic.
