  1. I listened to NFL Radio this morning, and Peter King was on yet again. (I thought he was just a rare guest but apparently he's on all the time... UGH)

He was saying the Bills should draft that RB out of Stanford because he'd be a great Chan Gailey guy. I'm guessing he was talking about in the 2,3, or 4th round. Awful awful awful choice. We already have Fred Jackson, a great RB, and Marshawn who if he comes back right next year is a starter as well. Ugh.

Even if the kid plays at FB, we just don't need to draft one like that. I want to blow my brains out every time he is on the radio.

If he is there in the 3rd round the Bills should snap him up. Have you seen this guy play? By the way his name is Toby Gerhart and he is an absolute beast. A one man wrecking crew. Of all the college bowl games that I watched this holiday season and all the players I saw, only this guy stuck out in my mind. He can absolutely dominate a game and his style is perfect for the NFL. I would be ecstatic if we got him. I agree we shouldn't take him early, but if he is there in the third, I would grab him.

  2. I originally posted this on the other thread about NBC being idiots, but what a political catfight that thread turned into! So I decided to move my post here where it belongs.

"What a great hockey game. I am an American living in Newfoundland and watched the game in HD on CTV. It was great to see the Americans silence that hateful Canadian crowd. Canadians have a reputation for being extremely nice, but I have lived here for seven years and they absolutely detest America. They have a huge collective inferiority complex when it comes to anything American and hockey is one of the few forums where they have a chance to beat us at something. They are so smug about hockey being "their" game. It was a pleasure to watch the U.S. shut them up. I can't wait to get to work today so I can talk some smack to my Canadian co-workers. All in good fun of course, but they deserve it. I take plenty of heat for being the only American."

  3. Well, the Czech's and Russia of course. While the USA - Canada game gets relegated to MSNBC tonight in non HD. Or, at least it's in non HD on DTV.

Nothing like putting your own country's game on the second tier network in non HD. Here's hoping that NBC, and all of it's suckarse news networks all keep getting your asses kicked in the ratings for years to come.

    :unsure::P

OK, I feel a little better now. lol

  4. I am sorry but is hiring Chan !@#$ing Gailey as the coach when Marty Schotenheimer wanted the job is a incompetent move. I mean are we seriously giving kudos to a front office that hired a guy the Kansas City Chiefs fired. Oh but he the KC Chiefs offense fell 7 ranks when he left well you know who else also left KC the same year as Gailey Tony Gonzales who is likely the reason why KC's offense fell from bad to God awful.

Look at Gailey's track record and is there anything since a semi-successful run with Dallas that shows why Gailey will be a success? Miami actually got better right after he left. GA tech got better after he left. Then the one stop where the team was worse after he left it was more likely due to the HOF Tight End who also left with him.

I am sorry but Marty ball should be our HC. We need a guy who is a proven winner not a proven disappointment. While I do like the coordinators and assistants they have brought in the overall hire of Gailey is a bad one. I love for anyone to seriously defend this hire of Gailey as HC when Marty ball wanted the job.

Marty Shottenheimer is so old he can't even get out of his own way. Sorry, but I respectfully and totally disagree with your rant. Football people recognize what kind of coach Chan Gailey is and he is a good one. He met all the criteria that Nix was looking for. He has head coaching experience in the NFL, leading his team to the playoffs both years. He is a creative offensive mind, he has coached on both sides of the ball and he has brought in what appears to be a very competent staff. Listen to Marty Shottenheimer on Sirius NFL radio. The guy can barely get a sentence out. He clearly would not have been the answer. Sorry you didn't get your wish, but in my humble opinion, it is for the best.

  5. Here's my summary of the discussions going on around here about the future of the Bills: Our QBs suck, our O-line sucks, Whitner sucks, our team sucks, we've got holes everywhere. So we have to bring in McNabb/Thigpen/Orton etc., get rid of Lynch/Evans/Schobel etc., draft Bradford/Clausen/Lefevour etc., get a LT, get a big, fat nose tackle, get better receivers, etc. AND pick the halftime act for the next Super Bowl. Whew!

The thing is, the only judgments that matter are the ones that will come out of One Bills Drive. And I for one trust Buddy and Chan and their advisers more than I do myself. So what I think is going on right now is that those people are looking at every available piece of footage on everyone on the roster, talking with people who might have insight into these players, and coming to a determination about every one of them. In that process, they may decide that none of the QBs we have (or Evans, Whitner, Lynch, etc.) are up to their standards. Or maybe they'll decide that Brohm or McKelvin or Bell have tremendous upsides. I don't know what their final decisions will be. But I'm willing to trust them more than I've been willing to trust any FO types in at least a decade.

Good post. The discussions on this board can get a bit tired sometimes and all the negativity is really boring. I'm with you. I'm anxious to see what the new regime has in store for us. We all knew that the status quo was not working. These guys are going to shake things up and I like what I'm seeing and hearing so far. Time will tell how successful they will be, but what have we got to lose? We have been terrible for 10 years. Worst case scenario is that we suck again. Best case is that the team starts getting better and moving in the right direction.

  6. I don't know what it is about CBS Sports, but I have never liked their NFL coverage. Well, since the days of Brent Musberger, Irv Cross, Phyllis George, and Jimmy the Greek on the old NFL Today show.

I'm not a fan of Jim Nantz. I always think of the Masters when I hear him. Simms is very good (better than Troy Aikman, but still a distant second to Cris Collinsworth).

Can't stand the pregame show, though. Thoughts?

My favorite part is listening to Shannon Sharpe's lisp. Yesterday he said something like "If Peyton Manning wanths to thement himthelf as thomebody thpecial, then he needths to win thith game." Classic. I was laughing my a** off.

  7. The decision to throw away the undefeated season during the Jets game at home while they had the lead was unforgivable if you are a true football fan. I thinks it's one of the reasons why so many of the ex-players were rooting for the Saints. To me, the Colts as a team appear soulless, emotionless and robotic. Last night, the Saints showed how the game is supposed to be played and were rewarded for it.

I agree completely. Not only was it a bogus decision that allowed the Jets to make the playoffs, it cost me my fantasy league title. That was my championship game and my opponent had Anthony Jones who scored two TD's after the Colts quit playing. I lost by four. I know it's just fantasy football, but I worked hard all season to manipulate my roster and make it to the championship. I'm glad the Colts lost their championship as well.

  8. My daughter Chloe was born today just after 4pm this evening. Please help we welcome one of the newest Buffalo sports fans to the game

Congrats to u and your wife. I have a 3 year old baby girl after raising two boys and she is the light of my life. Enjoy her each and every day.

  9. Question: With the CFL's Calgary offensive coordinator Cortez now being rumored to being close to signing with the Bills, and with his success in developing Flutie, Garcia, Brooks, and Boller, and with our current need for a true starting QB, does anyone see perhaps a slight chance of Jeff Garcia being signed for perhaps 2 years until we develop/draft "the future"?

I've always loved Garcia, and minus his stint in Cleveland he has lit it up everywhere he has been.

He would atleast be the same as McNabb, he would be better than Troy Smith, and he would- IMO- be a much better and bigger help than Vick.

He's not being mentioned at all, but when he last played it does not appear that he has lost much (if any) all of these years.

What does everyone think about Jeff Garcia as a short-term solution at QB?

I for one would not mind this at all. Garcia is a veteran with a proven track record. If he has enough left in his tank, he would be an improvement over both Edwards and Fitzpatrick. Brian Brohm is still intriguing to me. He seems to fit the Buddy Nix quote "If he did well in High School and he did well in college, he will probably do well in the pros." Brohm was a stud in High School and at Louisville he was one of the top QB's in the country. I watched him in college and never thought that Buffalo would have a shot at drafting him with all the other needs and with Edwards the supposed QB of the future. I think he certainly has a ways to go in developing into a pro QB, but he certainly has the ability. Should be fun to see what Cortez thinks of him.

  10. For your information, I can read and very well, your post was as much whining as any other post that anyone else has posted on here. I too served my country in the Navy for almost 21 years, whatever that has to do with it, I wasn't questioning your character, unwillingness to serve your country, although it appears that you are still in the military mode telling people on this board what to do, when you have no authority over any of them. I don't even complain about everything, much less whine, if the Bills do something I agree with, I will be the first person on the board to say that I agree with the move whatever it might be. It is only a passion for the team that makes so many people upset about the way the team has been owned, run, managed, coached and played for over a decade. It is the American way to voice your opinion, and if I must, because of people like yourself and myself, along with hundreds of thousands of other Americans who have proudly served this great country we live in, we have the right to speak our mind-it is a free country.

My reference to my military service was a response to an attack on my character by another poster who said that I was satisfied with mediocrity. I was merely pointing out that mediocrity is not part of my makeup. I respect the opinion of yourself and everyone else on this board. I just find much of it to be overly negative and unproductive and very boring. You are right, everyone has a right to their opinions, just as I do mine. I find many of the posters on this forum to be both illiterate and boring with their constant negativity and many of the nonsensical posts. They have the right to do so and I will be the first to defend that right. That doesn't mean that I have to agree with them or you for that matter.

  11. I read your post. You said that the fans should enjoy losing. Well there is losing and then there is being totally lost. Sitting through a Bills games and watching the complete incompetence is not like a 34-31 loss where both teams played great and on that day the better team won. Year after year this team gets worse and the way they go about it is totally embarassing. Calling fans ignorant for ridiculing the Bills is ignorant in itself. Your CHOSEN profession tells you to keep in a straight line and keep your mouth shut. I have never and will never subscribe to that mentality and I don't feel the need to credential what I do for a living.

So while you are entitled to your opinion, I find your "rose colored glasses" attitude a thousand times more offensive than someone pointing out the fact that the Bills suck in a negative tone.

When a team loses through complacency, it will constantly search for new and more intricate explanations to explain away defeat.

    -Pat Riley

I respect your opinion. As I have stated, I just don't find negativity to be productive or particularly interesting. I would rather enjoy my life than B word about what might be. I live in the real world and the Bills are what they are. I get as frustrated as the next guy, but bitching just isn't productive. By the way, I said enjoy the games, not the losing, big difference. My chosen profession does not tell me to keep my mouth shut and I am retired by the way. If you knew anything about the Army you would know that we have a responsibility to voice our opinions to leadership when we feel they are making the wrong decision. That entails offering alternative courses of action, not just saying "you suck". Peace my friend.

  12. 1. I don't believe any Bills fans on this board "Hates the organization" but they/we do hate the way it has been run over the past decade and the lack of effort to make it a winning team once again, like the fans in Western New York and all across this great country deserve.

    2. I unlike you haven't been around since the early 1960's but I have been around since the early 1970's, so I feel I have earned the freedom to express my disgust and disappointment with the way the team that I have loved since my childhood has been turned into the NFL's biggest joke, a team that so many don't want anything to do with.

    3. You tell people to find another team, why don't you find another board to read? People are free to post what they want to on here as long as they stay within the board moderators guidelines (no profanity, etc.)

    4. Have you ever heard the saying "The Squeaky Wheel gets the Oil"? Kinda true with this team too. If the fans don't express their lack of satisfaction or disgust with the current situation, things will never change (they still might not but it helps). If it wasn't for the fanbase and media being so vocal, I believe Jauron would have been around to the end of the season, and probably around headed into the 2010 season. Do you really think Ralph would have fired him all on his own and took on an additional salary? DJ is still getting paid by Ralphie (unless he tries to get out of it like he did with Wade Phillips).

    5. Tell the Patriots, Cowboys, Eagles, Steelers, Ravens, etc. etc., fanbases that going 10 years without making the playoffs, hiring 5 coaches in 10 years, having one less home game than any other team in the NFL because your tightwad senile owner sold one to the country north of you to put some more milliions in his pocket that he won't spend on making the team better, and being a joke around the country is just to quote you "all part of living and breathing with your team" and see if they sit back and say all is great and smile and enjoy being angry after 9 out of every 10 games that you watch of the team you give your heart and soul for, not to mention a good portion of your bank account to on tickets, memorabilia, clothes etc.

    6. So I guess what I am saying anyone who wants to come on this board and vent their frustrations has all the right to do that as you do in coming on here and saying that you love the way things are being run and don' t like people talking negative about the Bills.

Another Bills fan on this board that can't read. I didn't say I enjoy the way things are being run. I just said that I am tired of all the negativity. I don't think it is productive or interesting at all. Fine, complain all you want, but to constantly whine about everything the team does or fails to do just gets old. I agree that people have a right to their opinions, just as I do. What I was saying is that this forum tends to be excessively negative and it gets boring.

  13. No, it makes you Captain Obivious! But these Buffalo Bills Lemmings who, "Love the Bills no matter what!" are the same people who are just happy to get a paycheck every other week. They love mediocrity because they are ill-equipped to do anything that takes a little effort. They relate to the Bills because they are used to losing. Sorry for the soapbox but this post just annoyed the SH*T out of me.

First of all, you don't know me or know anything about me. I served my country for 23 years in the U.S. Army and am a Legion of Merit recipient. So much for mediocrity huh? I am currently a systems engineer building new Army systems and very succesful at that as well. Maybe if you actually read my post you might understand it, but judging by your response, I doubt it. Far from accepting the status quo, what I was suggesting is that people be more positive in their suggestions on how to improve the team. I get just as frustrated as anyone else and I stated that in my post. I just don't feel that being negative about every single thing that the team does is productive or even interesting.

  14. Burying your head in the sand and pretending everything is hunkey dorey never fixed anything either. I find watching the Bills lose unenjoyable. Is that wrong of me?

Not at all. I find it unenjoyable as well. What I meant by my post is that it's fine to not accept the status quo. I don't like it either. I just wish people on this forum would be more positive in their suggestions on how to fix the team. Most of them sound like they hate the Bills. I don't hate them. I hate the fact that they lose way too much. I always want them to win. Every single week regardless of who they are playing and what their record might be. I am open to any and all suggestions on how to fix the team as long as it is done in a positive manner. And if people want to be negative, that is their right as well. I just don't find it productive or particularly interesting. Hope this helps to clarify.

  15. Ok, everything has been fine the last ten years.

I think the Bills first round draft choices have been excellent!

Ralph Wilson is the best owner in sports!

    Feel better now?

If you read my post, that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that I am as frustrated as the next guy, but being negative never fixed anything and it certainly takes away any enjoyment derived from following your team. I don't like a lot of the decisions that have been made, I wasn't a Jauron or Donahoe fan, but I have always been and will always be a Bills fan. I don't even get pissed off when they lose games in the fourth quarter anymore. I just laugh. But I still watch.

  16. I have been a Bills fan since the very beginnings in the 1960's. I have been through the AFL glory days, the Super Bowl years and all the lean years as well. Lately I have been reading this forum and it makes me sick. If you guys hate the organization so much, then it is time to find another team. All the ridiculing and ignorance does not speak well for those of you that insist on taking that attitude. I want the team to win as much as anyone. I am as frustrated as you are, but part of being a fan is sticking behind your team in good times and bad. These are the bad ones. If you want to leave then go ahead and find another team, but please stop polluting this site with your negativity. As for Chan Gailey, from what I have read, he is a good man and a good coach. He has had a winning record in every stint as a head coach except one year in Division II college football. He has coached in all facets of the game and been successful doing so. If I am a GM and look at coaching resumes, this guy is highly qualified and certainly the most well respected candidate among other coaches of those that were considered. He is a man of character and integrity. For my money, it was a good hire. Screw the national media. Since when do they know anything? Especially about Buffalo. If you are worried about what others think of the city and the franchise, then you will never be happy, because there will always be bigots that ridicule Buffalo, because they don't know any better. I have a suggestion. Enjoy the games. Even the ones we lose. Is it frustrating? Yes. Is it painful? Yes. Guess what, that's all part of living and breathing with your team. Go Bills!
