  1. On ESPN.com they have an insider link about a rumor that Brohm may get the nod as signal caller.

    ESPN - NFL

There's a great opportunity for Buffalo Bills QB Brian Brohm (and Trent Edwards) to hit the reset button on their careers this offseason, since the new Chan Gailey regime is taking over in Buffalo. Edwards is who we thought he was, but although he's not the most exciting choice, it seems as though he'll wind up as the man under center this fall. That said, Brohm will have the chance to make his case this summer, and recently, he was taking first-team reps in both 7-on-7 drills and full-bore 11-on-11's as well, per Mark Gaughan of the Buffalo News.

Giving his appraisal of the Bills' QB picture as it stands on Monday, Sal Maiorana of the Democrat and Chronicle reiterated his prediction that Edwards will be the starter for the Bills this season, but he is holding out hope that Brohm will one day show some of the talent that convinced the Packers to use a second-round pick on him in 2008.

ESPN's John Clayton thinks that confidence could be the issue with Brohm:

    John Clayton

    Destined for the UFL?

"It was pretty clear in Green Bay that Matt Flynn, a seventh-round choice, looked better than Brohm. That was noticeable from the first minicamp in Green Bay. It's hard to say what went wrong so far with Brohm. He seemed to lack confidence in the opportunities he has had. That's one of the problems in the NFL. If you don't grab those opportunities, they'll get away from you, and all of a sudden you find yourself on a UFL roster hoping to get back into the NFL."

  2. I feel that the Bills front office really made a poor decision not taking Clausen at pick 41. I understand not taking him at pick nine. Too risky and too many good players on the board like Spiller. However, I believe at pick 41 he was a "STEAL." The risk is greatly reduced and he would have filled a HUGE need. Assess our QB situation for this year. It is perhaps the worst in the NFL. All we can say is that we are waiting for next years draft because that QB class is better. In my humble opinion, that doesn't "cut it." Wait til next year.....I am tired of waiting and besides those guys are going to 'BIGGER RISK" if we select a QB with our first pick. (likely a top 5 -10 pick)

Also, I think from a fan prospestive this year would be a lot more exciting with Clausen on the roster. Remember the TO signing...It was fun to have TO in the Buffalo limelight and have some media attention. Right now, all of us would be glued to the Clausen updates and hoping he is the one. Today, I read that Fitz took the snaps today and Edwards yesterday. BOY IS THAT EXCITING...Perhaps Clausen could have stepped right in and started for us. What do we have to loose? Heck, I believe this season is a bust anyway. Its a season of learnng, growing, and building for the future. Which hopefully leads to winning soon. This season isn't about winning despite what you hear from the front office. Objectively, look at the rosters and you have to conclude we don't have the players. PLAYERS win games not coaches...Coaches can aid in the winning process no doubt but they still need the personnel. Our personnel is subpar.

In concluding, Clausen was a "low risk" at pick 41, an instant upgrade to our QB roster, and could have given many of fans a reason for some excitment this year. It was a win win for all of us. Instead we reached for a guy named TROUP who noone has ever heard of prior to the draft. What a collosal blunder...

Tell me what you guys think?

I couldn't disagree more. This team has too many holes and in rounds 2-7 the front office did a good job of addressing needs at DT, LB, WR, LT and DE. Clausen would not have made this team a winner because they just had too many holes to fill. QB is a high risk position in the draft and I like the way this team addressed every other area of need. Spiller is a playmaker who will help them score points, which is sorely needed. Most of the other guys will help the D, particularly against the run. No way would I have taken Clausen in the second round.

  3. Trent needs to shut up and do something on the field to prove Kelly wrong. Until he does, Kelly has every right to criticize him . I'm sure Jim Kelly would be the first one to praise him if he actually did something good on the field, but so far, three years and absolutely nothing. So put up or shut up Mr. Edwards. His comment though say a lot about his menatality. It isn't that he's played horribly, it's that "some people aren't going to like you or the way you play". What a tool.

  4. Isn't it ironic that we by passed Colt McCoy deep in the draft, but we take some unknown, inexperienced RB that Indy discarded named Colt Simpson. "No offense O.J.".....

Wasn't there a free agent offensive tackle available not too long ago....Levi Jones or something like that? So instead

we draft a small time QB in the 7th round Levi Brown..."No offense Jim"....

Then didn't we just pick up a RB named Mendenhall? Well, yeah I know we did...but isn't the other one the one that

matters? We picked up another unknown!

I also know we picked up some hall of famers! Well actually their college players that went undrafted, but the Bills have

high hopes for some of them. At least their optimistic! Yeah, but the names sure are iconic football names from the past:

    Destin Harris...."Darn not Franco"

    Sean Allen...... Drats not Marcus

    Antonio Coleman...Well not Monte

Bell, Jones, Johnson (at least he's not Rob)...

So after this big splash in free agency and the draft what are your feelings on how much we improved, regressed, or stayed the same????

To me, I like as Robert Frost put it "The Road not taken", but I like that road better than the road we took !!! It's also so ironic that the best player that this franchise has selected in the past five years is at a position that we didn't really need

to improve on in contrast to severe needs at QB and OLT.

Just remember, praise their selections if you want..but mark my work when we struggle this year...we're all going to say..boy they lost some close games...if we just had a better QB and better blocking for the QB we would've won 8 or 9 games at least.

Unfortunately, the sad reality is that when it's all said and done and everyone has spoken their piece...and Donte predicts the playoffs again, and Chan Gailey talks about turning it around like the Dolphins and Jets did...We're still going to be

5 wins and 11 losses until we ADDRESS OUR NEEDS with big boy college players that played against top competition. This little tweener team of little guys from little colleges that can play more than one position including special teams like Spiller..is not what I want my team to be like....You don't see Pittsburgh or Baltimore get manhandled, and you see that quality teams like N.ENG and Indy have the skill positon guys which you need...The Brady's, Moss's, etc....Who do we really have at WR for sure besides Lee Evans?????? Parrish?? yeah right, Hardy? Hardly....Easley? It won't be Easy for the rook! Stevie (I wonder) Johnson? Not so far? Who??? Maybe, we should get the old but better than anything we have on our roster Marvin Harrison if he's not back with Indy!

Core players?? Pozluzny...no Pozinjury is out more than in! Schoebel? Just sold his house! Sounds like that ship has sailed!

Byrd (break...smile..2 more years GONE!) to highest bidder! u say no???? Hmmmm...Pat Williams, Nate Clements, Antwoine Winfield, Sam Cowhart, Jabari Greer, that Leonhart guy whose quite good!....etc....

It starts at the top..and as long as they hire coaches and staff on the cheap and avoid QB's in the first two rounds...they won't ever make it back to the playoffs! I see people predicting great things...that they are building towards..but it's all a

facade. Even when they bring a player along like Peters, they repeatedly have shown that they are not willing to pay what it takes to keep him. That is a fact and history continually repeats itself. The top teams keep most of their superstars..Indy will retire a Colt and Brady will spend several years on the Patriots unless he gets plagued by injuries. Good teams keep their stars, the Bills like the Bisons is a good place to watch some young players develop and if they become a desirable

player move on to a "real" NFL Franchise!!!! I hate to say all this, but it's the way it is and I'm a diehard supporter of da

Bills regardless of the product they put on the field every year. But, I'm not going to call a pile of sh*t a pile of Gold !!!!!

The sky is falling. We suck. We will always suck. The front office sucks. The players suck. The city sucks. We should have drafted every player we didn't draft. We should have signed every free agent that we didn't sign. Blah, blah, blah, blah f***ing blah.

  5. Heres what basically all posts will say more or less til the season starts and we can do some real bitching!...

    Marshawn will stay

    Marshawn will go

    Marshawn stole my twenty bucks

Great Post. Now we don't need to bother reading the board. You have pretty much covered everything that people will B word about. Of course they will find other things, or just expand on bitching about those things that you already covered. Made me laugh and usually this board just pisses me off.

  6. I was listening to Sirius NFL radio this morning as I normally do on the way to work. As some of you know, Ross Tucker works for them now and does a great job.

This morning, they interviewed Amani Toomer and were discussing the pc responses to the media (with Toomer, it was about what was said about Shockey then as opposed to now that Toomer is retired).

Tucker talked about the Bills releasing Drew Bledsoe to go with JP Losman. He said that he thought it was an absolutely crazy move and the entire offensive line felt the same way. They wanted the Bills to keep DB.

And your point? Bledsoe was a bust in Dallas and he was clearly finished as a QB. The fact that Losman didn't pan out doesn't change that. Bledsoe was not the answer at that point. Players very often question management decisions and most of the time they are proven wrong. It was time to give Losman his shot.

  7. I live in Newfoundland and we don't get ESPN at all. When I first moved here I missed it, mostly because I was used to watching Sportscenter a couple of times a day. We have TSN, the sister station here and we get the ESPN programming through that. Not all, but some. The ESPN draft coverage was on TSN here. They cut away for hockey coverage on Thursday night, then didn't show the Saturday coverage at all. Gotta say, I agree with everyone here. The NFL network coverage was way better. I watched it even when the ESPN coverage was on here. I flipped to ESPN a couple of times, but found their coverage boring. Corey Chavous is the man. He really impressed me with how well prepared he was and his analysis was off the charts. Good job NFLN and after living here for almost 8 years, I don't miss ESPN at all. They are a bunch of blowhards in almost every sport they cover.

  8. Only Jacksonville was worse with a C-. Outside of Cory Chavous I've seen no above average grades for the Bills so far.

I have to agree with them. I see nothing special with this draft except Spiller. I might say that Levi Brown was a good value pick in the seventh. Other than that nothing really stands out as a coup.

I still don't understand why we didn't trade Lynch to Seattle. They apparently really tried to get him. What is Nix thinking?

If it makes you feel any better, Scouts Inc. ranked Buffalo 12th out of 32. Most of these grades really mean nothing at this point. This was a team with lots of holes and they addressed the O-Line, the D-Line, Linebacker, Running Back, QB and WR. All were positions of need, and I believe they got guys that can play in each instance. Time will tell, but I definitely like the approach that they took.

  9. Just wondering, with all of the backs the Bills have been signing, if they don't go after Spiller would Toby Gerhart look good in a Bills uni ?? HMMMM I wonder ?? :bag:

Toby Gerhart is a stud. He will dominate in the NFL. A straight ahead power runner. He doesn't dance, just blasts through the line and runs over linebackers. If he is there in the third, grab him.

  10. Perhaps the best draft philosophy this year for the Bills is "Stop the Run". Except for the "D" secondary the Bills have so many weaknesses, that the draft will not get them out of the NFC cellar. They need to focus on one area so that it becomes an area of stength.

Maybe if you could figure out which conference the team plays in, then your opinion might be more meaningful. The Bills play in the AFC East, not the NFC. Nice thought about stopping the run though.

  11. I guess they have written off this year, the guy flat sucks. I am praying this is nothing but pre draft posturing to get teams to think they dont' want a QB they are really after.

Otherwise this team is playing for the 1st overall pick next year.

And you are of course basing your opinion on your expert scouting skills. This guy was a stud in both high school and college and I believe he could be in the pros as well. Thus far, he has started exactly one game, so there clearly is not enough evidence of what kind of pro player he can be. Let's let the coaches do their job. Maybe once we see him a few times there will be evidence of what kind of player he can be. Green Bay clearly thought he could become something as they matched Buffalo's offer for him last year. They tried to hide him on the practice squad and it backfired on them.

  12. Here's a thought for you. It is called my "opinion." I don't know what I'm talking about? Look up the answer Gailey gave the media when they asked how long he planned on taking to evaluate his most important position on the team. You will find many different places that all have him saying something along the lines of "...I will know by the start of free agency what direction we will be heading with the QB situation."...

So, since you are so much smarter then me - please tell what direction Chan and Buddy are heading with the all important QB situation? So far, it looks a lot like Jauron's direction from this time last year, doesn't it?

It's called sarcasm. Look it up since you are so brilliant. And by the way read my post. I never claimed to be smarter than you. I just happen to disagree with your brilliant "opinion". Deal with it.

  13. I've known about NFL head coaches sleeping in their offices and spending 110 hour work weeks for years. But this Gailey guy, he doesn't even seem to have time to fit much in even during the off season. Just read some of his quotes:

"Our GM has spoken to him (Marshawn Lynch) I have not talked to him." - I say, why the hell not, Chan? He's only a former number one pick who is still extremely young, and if someone can figure out how to work with this kid, they could have a great running back for the next 8 years or so. Or even on the flip side. If you are too "important" to waste your time reaching out to one of your current players on your roster, just how many other teams are going to be interested in trading for him?

"He's an intelligent football player and I really enjoyed the short time I had with him....(Talking about Tim Tebows' Buffalo workout). What does Gailey mean, "short time" he had with him? Tebow was in Buffalo, working out only for the Buffalo Bills. Jim Kelly took the kid out to dinner. What other more important dinner plans did Chan have that night? Was he glued in front of his TV watching Dancing With The Stars? Was he and Buddy out shooting pool at their favorite honky tonk while Kelly spent "quality time" with a kid that just might end up being drafted by the Bills??

"We just started talking about terminology and implementation of what we're trying to do," Gailey said of his initial meeting with Edwards, Fitzpatrick and Brohm. "I haven't sat down and talked to (the QB's) about the situation. I haven't addressed that yet." That is a quote from TODAYS' Democrat and Chronicle. Here's the link below: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/articl...e-Bills-starter

Wow. So when exactly does Chan expect to "discuss the situation" with the three QB's he allegedly took so much time to study up on the past 3 months? After all, he's made his decision on what to do about the QB situation for his Buffalo Bills, right? He told us in no uncertain terms, he would know what direction he would be going in before free agency started. And here we are, about a month into free agency, and Chan has said nothing to anyone about what he and Nix allegedly decided over a month ago. The same three guys are here, wondering what the hell their roles are going to be, and workouts are starting and we are just a few weeks from the draft.

I guess Mike Holmgren has a different take on "making QB decisions." He dumped both guys from last year's team, and has already brought in two veterans to replace them. Now I'm not saying Delhomme and Wallace will be much better then Quinn or Anderson. But at least Holmgren showed his team that he will not accept the same old same old.

So far in free agency, Buddy Nix has shown we Bills fans that he is prepared to absolutely accept the same old same old from last years' players that currently take up the most important positions on the team. QB - same 3 guys. LT - same injured guys. NT - same 2 undersized DT's. WR - Same guys minus TO. And on top of that, Chan Gailey has been the busiest head coach in the NFL. Too bad nobody knows what the hell he spends all of that time doing.

Wow, maybe they should make you the Head Coach and GM. You obviously have much more experience and knowledge than these guys do. How come you're not employed as someone's HC or GM? Maybe it's because you have no idea what you are talking about. Just a thought.

  14. i just don't understand the NFL draft process! so because this guy has a great workout in his gym gear he is a number one overall prospect now? but only weeks before he was lucky to go in the 1st round-don't get it

He won't move up solely on the basis of this workout. This workout will prove that he is healthy. That could cause him to move up based on his career at Oklahoma and knowing that he is healthy.

  15. I was reviewing the updated depth chart and in a position review, I feel we have the worst roster in all of the NFL. There are so many obvious holes on the roster especially in light of the transition to the 3-4 defense.

    Let's look at each position:

QB - No proven starter as Edwards is petrified to throw a ball more then 5 yards down the field, Fitzpatrick is just awful and Brohm is unproven. However they may be better if they action had an offensive live that could block for more then 1.1 seconds

RB - Slightly above average, however Jackson is almost 30 and Lynch is one bonehead move away from a significant suspension, depth behind those two is hideous and the FB position is just flat embarassing

WR - Lee Evens and unproven talent, but with no offensive line and the QB's in fear of their lives from the pass rush, does this position even matter

TE - Nelson and the other guys are slightly above average and can make the short catch, since that's all we throw I guess it works.

OG & C - Wood and Levitre are building blocks, Hangartner is stop-gap at best and Wood should be at C, meaning we need a guard. Depth is pitiful at best

T - A total and complete black hole, no proven tackles, one Raider reject and two guys who may have upside but are unproven.

OL Summary - Hope whoever plays QB has his career after football mapped out after suffering a career ending injury

ST - Well above average, PK, P and even Parrish is a decent punt returner when he's in the mood, McKelvin at KR should improve

DL - Players don't match the scheme and the guys we had at tackle need to project to defensive end, plus no nose tackle that can play the 3-4, this line as composed can't stop the run or generate a pass rush, so opposing QB's can pick us apart and then use the running game to play keep-away, what a mess

LB - Comprised of back-up defensive ends from the old scheme, an over-rated LB in Poslusney and a worthless blown draft choice in Maybin. No edge pass-rusher at all, and they inside guys are prone to being pushed around

S & CB - Other then special teams this is the only other bright-spot, of course to many good players for available spots so we can convert the extra safities to undersized linebackers, oh well at least they can intercept occasionally, may get more INT's then forced punts

Let's face facts, this team is horrible and we need to accept a 14 loss season is in our immediate future

    Opinions please

Wow. So I guess they might as well not show up this year. Why don't we just forfeit all 16 games and get the first pick next year automatically. What a load of garbage. The Bills were clearly a bad team last year. Do any of us know to what level they will perform this coming year? Absolutely not. We can guess all we want, but the truth is none of us knows what the final roster will look like or how the team will perform until the season starts. Til then it's just idle speculation. So relax it's just too early to tell and that is reality.

  16. No, Boondock saint 2 was just horrible. The first one was good though.

Well I respect your opinion, I just respectfully disagree. Although I didn't care that much for the female agent character in "Saints 2", I thought overall the movie worked in the same type of way that the first one did. It was funny and in line with the tone of the first one. Just like with other subjects on this board, we all have our own opinions and yours is worth just as much as mine. Take care.

  17. that is a horrible quote from a horrible movie....no one should ever quote Boondock saints 2...NEVER!

You obviously didn't "get" the movie. Both Boondock Saints movies are supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek. You can't take them literally or you are missing the point.

  18. Troy Smith's resume is so huge that entrusting him with the franchise is a rational and cogent thought.

Guy couldn't beat out a rookie Joe Flacco, but he's now good enough for Buffalo? Well, then again, it is the Bills we're talking about.

Just so you know, Smith was scheduled to be the starter for Baltimore the year they drafted Flaco. He got an infection and went on IR. He did not lose the job to Flaco. Flaco got the job after Smith went on IR.

  19. that the bills will be " one of the worst in the league" or " awful to watch" or " horrible" etc.. I have read so many threads and comments that the bills will be horrible next year that it is actually starting to piss me off a little. If you have no optimism or passion, then please don't waste your time watching this team, and posting threads on a buffalo bills fansite.

You are wasting your time trying to reason with these people. I posted something similar awhile back about all the negativity being boring and I got hammered. They just don't get it. I wasn't saying that people don't have the right to complain and I don't think you were either. What I was getting at was that criticizing every single thing that the team does or doesn't do gets annoying and boring.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, but it almost seems like most of these people actually hate the Bills, which in my opinion does not make them "fans", but more like "critics". I don't understand or agree with some things the team has done either, but I try to hope for the best, rather than always predict the worst. I don't think any of us can say for sure that we absolutely know what the right moves are and we all certainly are entitled to our own opinions, but just remember, they are just that, opinions and no one person's is worth more than someone else's.

I'm not talking about blind optimism. I'm just saying that as fans we all want the same thing. We want the Bills to win. So when offering criticism, maybe offer an alternative suggestion. Just saying "The Bills suck and they will continue to suck." isn't very interesting to most people.

  20. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combine/0900...ab/QB-standouts

Skip to about 1:20 in the vid, check out the radar gun. Now Im not sure if thats as hard as he can throw, but he stepped into pretty good and from the looks of the drill and that guy being there with the radar gun, I cannot think of anything else they could be testing.

IIRC, Cutlers was clocked in the 80s to put that in perspective. I googled that to check but didnt find anything, so if you know for certain another QBs ball speed please post.

I still like Pike from Cincinnati better than LeFevour. When they played head to head, I was more impressed with Pike. I saw him several times this year and never saw him have a bad game. He could probably be had in the 3rd or 4th round and in my opinion would be a better pick.

  21. sorry my friend.....but you sporting a miller jersey won't be enough support to help USA win gold. We are poised to become the top host city for gold medals. Only fitting that we destroy the States on Sunday and claim another gold in the biggest of all winter games. Im sorry, but its destiny. After this is all over, we can shelve our differences and refocus on our beloved Buffalo Bills, and cheer them on into the post-season.

Trample off hoser! Look at the total medal count not just golds in determining who had the more successful Olympics. Use any formula you want to value the medals and the U.S. was the most successful country at the games. We won 11 more total medals than Canada. Canada wasn't even second. And beating the U.S. at hockey is no great achievment, althought this one was anybody's game. The U.S. completely dominated the second and third periods. Hockey is a fringe sport in the U.S. and most Americans don't even care. It is no more important to us than any other winter sport and none of them is as popular as the major sports in the U.S., which are baseball, basketball, and football. Even golf and tennis are more popular in the U.S. than hockey. So enjoy your celebration, but nobody outside of Canada gives a rat's ass.

  22. You do realize that the "National" in NHL doesn't mean the U.S., right?

So how many Canadian teams in the NHL? Oh yeah, 6. And how many American teams? Oh yeah, 24. There would be no NHL if it weren't for America. Yes, there are twice as many Canadian players, but where would those guys play if the teams weren't mostly in the U.S. What the previous poster was saying, was that if Canada is so great, then why don't they have their own league that is better than the NHL?

  23. FYI a lot of bills fans are Canadian so thats why. Like T.O said, the bills are North America's team. Oh and the spectators (who were mostly Canadian) were rootin for the swiss because everybody outside of the US cant stand Americans, especially there sport teams. After the beating the Canadians put on Russia tonight and Canada's desire to get revenge against the US i believe that it is the Americans that should be scared of the Canadians

One of the things that you need to learn about Americans is that we fear noone. And as far as other countries hating America we know it is out of jealousy. Canada may well beat America later in the tournament if both teams make it to the gold medal game, but I can promise you that no American fears another country, particularly Canada. I am an American living in Newfoundland and am very well aware of how Canadians feel about America. They compare everything Canadian to everything American and pretend that their way is better, when deep down they really know better. If Canadian "culture" is so great, how come noone up here watches Canadian TV? Everyone watches the U.S. networks except the ones that the Canadian government won't let us have like ESPN, FX and USA. The only show worth watching on Canadian TV is "Republic of Doyle". Canadians kill me with their "holier than thou" attitude towards America and Americans, when they clearly want to be her. I have lived here for almost seven years because my wife grew up here, and I can find not one thing in Canada that I find better than anything American and that includes your sucky health care system. I waited over a year for a simple out patient procedure that would have taken less than a week to get in the U.S. and after having a heart atttack, I had to wait almost a year to see a cardioligist. Trample off hoser!
