  1. Group of us were @ that Game! We were also there for the "No Punt" gm in '92 & thought we were gonna be 2-0 for our SF roadies. We were in the opposite endzone/low & didn't see Holmes fumble, just thought he made it in. We're hootin' & hollerin' when all of a sudden SF is running ball back our way....brutal! Bills fans have to be among toughest anywhere to endure things like that & still cheer them on. That or insanely masochistic.
  2. I may be a sap but I'm basically 50 yrs old and have now lived away from the 716 for over half my life. Today feels like the Christmas days I remember as a kid in Cheektowaga! (Come on, there's gotta be some of you out there old enough to remember decorating the tree and watching Juice get 2,000 vs the Jets!) The older I get, it seems the stronger this irrational love of the Bills & Sabres becomes. I know this is a team game and one man does not make the franchise, etc. But I am pumped about the signing, what it means to the defense, the team and the community. Sorry, just had to get that outta my system. Coincidentally, some friends of ours invited us over for homemade beef on wecks this wknd...& I know mine will taste especially good! Thanks to all you posters for keeping me informed and in sticthes. (there was a recent line about some linebacker being stiffer than Mitt Romney @ a Jayzee concert...still laughing about that one!)
  3. Born & Raised in 716 (Cheekta-Vegas/W Seneca/S Buff) First cpl games in the Rockpile, MANY lost afternoons @ Rich (half time @ Hooterhill?) thru Fergy, Juice, Knox, Smerlas, Bermuda Traingle ("Curtain Call" Rams gm in like 1981?) Moved away in '85. Lived all over country for 5-yrs before settling in Utah in 1990 and still, for the life of me, I cannont shake this Bills addiction. (We did have 4-awesome SB parties in SLC! Plus many roadies...No Punt gm in 'Frisco '92, Flutie Mania beating Pheonix '99, etc) and we always seem to say to one another; 'Damn, one more good draft & a cpl free agents and we're there!" I do believe this current edition is headeding in the right direction overall. Nix/Gailey started a pretty major remodel but have had their hands partially tied by the brass. I also think the emphasis on good players w/ good character (Stevie's meltdown excluded) is the right way & I do think playoffs are coming next year, not just a cup of coffee either. Jets can't keep up their circus much longer, the win over the Pat's wasn't an anomoly, the loss to the Fish was, IMHO. There, sorry for rambling but you guys get me fired up...my glass remains half full! Beat the Titas & Go Bills!
  4. Not sure if Mr. Edwards is the DC for the long haul but the "Kids" on the field seem to be getting better. Watching yesterday & @ any point there were how many rookies on the field @ 1-time? Searcy, Williams, Rogers, Sheppard, Dareus...probably missing someone. Much as it sucks to already be talking about "next year" already, I figured this would be a 3-yr project and it looks like "some" of the pieces may be in place & coming along.
  5. Hey all, among many things I'm thankful for on this (and every) day??? You all here on TBD. Win, lose or late season Chernobyl-like meltdown, always great to hop on here and get a feel for what the fans think. Players, coaches, GM's come & go but the posters here are consistently spot on with humor and analysis...helps keep me relatively sane enduring the emotional roller coaster of being a life-long, die hard Bills fan! Happy Thanksgiving to all and let's see if the Rook's can't beat Sexy Rexy & the Jersey boys!! Go Bills!
  6. It still seems almost too good to be true; rooting for a team you live & die for no matter what and now they're comprised of a group of young men you can really admire. Oh, & they can flat out BALL! I know nothing lasts forever but I hope this winning ride w/ this team lasts for a while and leads to a SB victory someday soon! Go Bills!
  7. Growing up in the 716 and now being gone 26-years, it's often hard to make outsiders understand the bond between between Buff and their teams, esp the Bills. I've lived in Cali, Az., Alaska and Utah...and & people always know me (& the Ex-Buffalonians I ultimately wind up finding) as "Those Bills Fans"...usually with a hint of pity. But win or lose we always cheer and always hope. This article may be the best piece I've ever read by a national writer explaining the nuances of that relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Go Bills (& Sabres)
  8. Similar feelings Dave. Can't claim I was Kreskin & "knew" Nelson was gonna be a star, but I was shocked a kid recruited by Urban Meyer, playing in that program wasn't drafted by ANYONE. Living in Utah, I watched Urban up close for the cpl years he was here and the man has an eye for talent. I was extremely pleased Bills wound up w/ him and always felt he'd be solid, given the chance. Here's hoping D Nelson has many more games like last week, esp tomorrow against the 'Pats!! Go Bills 41-38
  9. Absolutely! I live 1,500 miles away from home (actually hasn't been home in a while but it still feels like it!) & I swear I can FEEL the energy! Between last weeks' win, the home opener, the Tyler Myers signing...all fired up. Hoping all B-Lo Sports fans everywhere are on the cusp of some long overdue good things.
  10. Thx eball! Piece of cake on the Droid!! Now let's Rip the Ray-dah's Sunday, Go Bills!
  11. Hey folks, just a quick shout-out to TBD staff and all you posters for making this site, for me anyway, a home away from home. I left WNY in '86 but this place is kinda like going into a Buffalo area bar (minus wings & beer) and hearing smart sports fans talking about their passion for the home team(s). From my first gm @ the Rockpile as a kid (Colts w/ Unitas & Bubba Smith, 1970?) & dz's in between, including several roadies (No punt gm in SF '92) this team has been part of me and I know it's part of you all. I don't have the football insight or humor many of you have...but I'm here pretty much every day. I'm so pumped for this season I can't stand it & thanks again to all of you for making it feel like home. Flame away.
  12. Hey Aloha, thanks for that re-cap...it was (IMHO) spot on and the best thing I'd read all weekend. Until the news flashed our boys got Osama! Go Bills and God Bless the USA!
  13. Got JD's autograph in fall of '80...the day before OJ's ring of fame ceremony. I was delivering hot dog rolls to Rich and went down to So endzone where Hill was playing catch w/ Ralph Wilson. Dang, Ralph looked old & frail THEN! At one point he fell & I thought he might not get up but JD came to his aid and Ralph said JD was always one of his favorite players...he seemed like a really cool dude (for what it's worth)
  14. One of the best Bill's home opener's for me was '90, vs Colts. Still stinging from that bitter defeat to the Brownie's 8-months earlier, the Boyz came out w/ the new no-huddle from the START. The Rich was Rockin'!!! I was living in Anchorage @ the time & flew home to be best man for my HS buddy, hang out w/ fam & friends, eat Buffalo food and see a Bills game! What a week, what a game! Newly minted Savior/Golden Boy/Joe Montana, etc...Jeff George, didn't even know his own name by the 3rd Q (think Biscuit slammed his head into that old turf a cpl times) and our Buffalo Bills were off on that amazing 4-yr run of awesomeness!!
  15. Hey Mike, thanks so much for keeping us outta town Bills fans up to date. Your reports are more detailed and better written than most of the so called "pro" sports writers. Keep up the good work!
