They did that already. Mack Hollins. Another big-bodied, downfield threat, run blocking guy that can start opposite Diggs in a pinch but hopefully won't have to once they draft a rookie high.
WR1 Diggs
WR2 ??? (hopefully rookie)
WR3 Shakir
WR4 ??? (hopefully rookie or another FA)
WR5 Hollins/ShorterThat replaces Gabe's production but not the position. Need a WR2/3 as insurance in case we end up pulling an Elam.

Give him a 2 year deal that is a “practical 1 year” and fill it with tons of incentives and a lower base.
Incentives need to include "not getting hurt in or before the second game" - 5,000,000

I don't know how the Bills are going to get an "insurance" WR to replace Gabe with how most of these deals are for WRs. Even a WR3 is going to cost a lot.

Except the Bills are leaving $30 million in cap space untouched this year. It’s a choice. Why are they making that choice? Maybe they are trying to stay away from risking dead cap for the future. Maybe they’re keeping spending down after years of being at the top of spending. Could be many things.
Maybe they are truly planning on getting younger and have 11 draft picks make the roster.
All Im saying is if they wanted more cap space they could easily have more cap space.
I found Dan Fates TBD account everyone!!!!
😁
I agree, they need to spend at least 8 picks this year on players and get younger and use the other 3 to move around as needed.

he's walking that back a little nowadays😅
I know he is, that's why I like to use it as satire. The cap is real, beane is actually just really good at doing the financial part of being a GM and making it look like it isn't.

Imagine if message boards and twitter was around when Thurman got cut from the Bills and signed with Miami....
Good for him to get another check and wish him well. He was an amazing find for the organization.

Good for him getting a little something before his career is over. It's not a business just from the organizational stance but from a players as well.

Harsh… but fair …You wonder if AJ might have been better off not taking Beane’s call last January and going on that planned holiday to Key West with the family .
probably paid for his families trip for 3 hours of work. I'd take that deal.

Really? Because the one position I thought the Bills might have an overabundance of depth at was LB. This one is a mystery to me
So he's hopefully less of a liability than AJ Klein
funny you should say that...

From WGR's Sneaky Joe's brother who follows the Eagles (sounds like a decent depth signing).

I’m using AJ to illustrate that there is no consistency in their plan (if they turn around and sign Simmons which I don’t believe they will). Floyd was old, but he was super productive. They chose to pay AJ who is young but unproductive instead. That’s fine if they’re committed to getting younger, but if they’re going to pick up Justin Simmons after trading a 3rd round pick for a 29 year old Rasul Douglas then letting a 24 year old Gabe Davis walk, then clearly that’s not their commitment.
Take a look at the snap count and comparing number and let me know if he was unproductive.

Our WR room is absolutely hilarious right now and we have one DT.
Those two positions are sirens blaring attention needed. But which one needs to get better faster?

AJE had 6.5 sacks last year. If he can keep his pace up with more snaps they will look to sign him long term IMO.
This is a "prove you can do it" contract. I like it. If he fails, they can drop him next year.
thank you, completely left that off for him and will update my post. Also left them off of Floyd too.

That's a good deal if they think he can get more snaps (which he should) and up his game some.
Fair for both sides.
For the record, here is the Groot, Floyd and AJE breakdown for the season. The % is their total snaps. Not a lot of tackles but missed out on a bunch of snaps as well.

Nice, he was playing well up until he injured his ribs late last year. 6.5 sacks, 2 picks, and 8 passes defended is pretty good for a guy who only played 36% of defensive snaps
I'd think that number is going to go up substantially.

I'm gonna take the fact that no numbers are reported yet as a good sign that it is team-friendly.
only the big numbers come out immediately is the norm.

They will be signing large deals with a team not named the bills. That is the news on them.
