Elijah Moore Visiting the Bills today (Update: Signed!)
The Wiz replied to bills742's topic in The Stadium Wall
The twitterverse is getting so bad regarding "WGR vs Beane" I almost want to start going into the political threads. -
I can only imagine the circle jerk they will give each other tomorrow morning. Oh look....

So here is my take on the whole thing. I caught the very end of the interview when Jeremy said he wasn't going to be belittled and then rewinded to the very start. Then I heard Beane talk about the last 2-3 minutes and listened to him come off the way he did. Then I rewinded again and listened to the last 2-3 minutes he was on hold. Then I listened from 6am until the full interview happened. After doing that, I think everyone was in their right to say what they said. I wanted a WR. Didn't get it but I'm happy they addressed the defense. They wanted a WR earlier and didn't get it so they made it a point of contention about "why dont you value WR" for a year and a half now so why wouldn't he be tired of hearing about it. They have the right to criticize anything that he does that doesn't work out (and I know they praised him for addressing the needs on defense) but it really does get tiring after a while. Even as a regular listener and only hearing "well, we could have had that guy" or "I guess we didn't need to do this". It's the Simpsons "Old man yells at a cloud". Why should he care what anyone else thinks outside of the people he has around him in the office? -

Yes. Always a good idea to tip your hand to everyone else what you plan on doing pre, during and post draft to maximize the value you get. They interviewed Moore before the draft and no one even knew about it anywhere. That's good GMing. EDIT: And now in hindsight, it makes his remarks even more valid. They were complaining that "you don't value WR the same as other teams" but was talking to a player at that position to try to help the WR room prior to the draft and signed him. This is a a double "STFU" from the interview and signing stance. -
I like the idea of a 25 yo player more than bringing a player like cooper. Did they need it last year, yes. Did he help, in a sense. Either way, did you really think that the QB talent in Cleveland should have been more productive than it was? I'll take a flyer on a guy who hasn't worked out with other teams over the older guy who "still kinda has it but lost a step".
-
Should have clarified. Bottom to top. 😆
-
Pretty much every interview from McD and Beane contains the phrase "we are always looking to make our team better". So since he didn't say it this time he should be shunned?
-
I'm more impressed that you put them in my "Would you bang?" order.
-
I disagree. Elite WRs are generally very good with bad to average QB play. Not exactly sure how a good WR can become a very good WR if they have a bad/average QB.

Found Jeremy White's burner account.

They were talking about Royals. They specifically said his name this morning while talking to Joe Marino. So again, Beane didn't pick who they wanted so they say "he doesn't value the WR position like other teams that draft WR when they already have WR on the team". They're right, he doesn't. Because he doesn't need to. LA Chargers have drafted 8 WRs since they drafted Justin Herbert and one of them is a Buffalo Bill now. Does that mean they value WR more or maybe they overvalue WR because they have Herbert? So Beane invested where they needed the most help in the 4th,5th and 6th round for what the team needs. Not what fans want. I myself do want an upgrade at WR and wish would had a stud but that doesn't change the fact that no matter who has walked through the door over the last 5-6 years has had their career year(other than Cooper) with Allen. Others will too.
-
Which is something that they should have know considering the WRs in this draft weren't anything special outside the 1st round, early 2nd and was a historically deep draft and defensive players that graded well all the way into the 4th round. Why would they be surprised? Every time Sal was on the show he said the first 3 or 4 picks were probably going to be defense for a month leading up to the draft and then it happens and they are surprised? Why? They weren't surprised; they were annoyed because Beane didn't pick who they wanted and then they couldn't "CHOO CHOO! EVERYONE ON BOARD THE WR TRAIN!"
-
So the fact that Beane did his due diligence in meeting with WRs prior to the draft means he HAD to pick one? By that logic, Katy Perry actually is an astronaut.
-
Was that today? I haven't seen that video yet.
-
I love how a guy that built a roster for one of the most successful teams in recent history has to defend himself against people who don't even know what a round number is.
-
Even if you wanted to say the "fantasy football" comment was against bills fans I wouldn't be offended. Beane has forgotten more about being an NFL GM than I will ever learn. I have no place to criticize what he does. I don't have to agree with/like it but that's why I'm not a GM.

Moss: Was already going to be a HOF when he got there and wasn't drafted by NE Gronk: I'll give you Welker: Brady made him good (and wasn't drafted by NE) Edelman: didn't break out until his 5th season So the options are sign a vet WR that is already a HOF/some guy that you think can have your QB elevate their game(kind of like most receivers have done with Allen) or draft a player and wait 3-5 years for them to be a very good player. This draft didn't have very good WRs after the first 2 rounds (even after the 1st round they were probably borderline very good) so drafting one in the 3rd or 4th when you could get guys that will more likely contribute right away on defense makes more sense.
-
The thing that I keep going back to is that even these mid round defensive players are probably going to get playing time sooner than a 4th or 5th round WR in a bad WR draft pool. With how the bills rotate their dline that pretty much a fact. The only reason that they wouldn't be rotated in at some point is because they are probably not going to keep them. That not much different than a 4th or 5th round WR. And before you mention Gabe and Shakir, Gabe was a good find and Shakir was a projected 3rd rounder that they were lucky to have fall to the 5th. Also, one of my favorite media takes, Shakir during his rookie season was one of the guys that most media members put "on the bubble" to making the team and look how that turned out.

There is a lot in here but I one thing I'm pretty sure of, Sal is employed by the Bills. He does have his own show on WGR but he is the Buffalo Bills Sideline reporter (not the WGR Sideline reporter).

It's very strange. Basically forcing another team to trade for a player that you don't have the rights to. -
Any chance you have the link to the Sirius interview. I'm confused about what you mean about the grieved? Beans was? And what did the pr guy do?
-
I don't think he said "we're good". He just pointed out the facts about the offense from last year. And the visit was likely scheduled before the interview happened this morning so going on the show listening to them complain about wr when he has the visit lined up probably hit a nerve.
-
Not wrong, but also if Beane only heard the comments that Jeremy and Joe were saying the 2 minutes before he joined to show I could see how he would be defensive about it because those comments out of context do sound like they are saying he doesn't care about the offense or WR.
