It's a big onion to peel. Every layer will make you cry.

On the outside he is a talented football player who contributes to victories for his team

He has won an MVP and has earned a lot of respect

He has limited talent to understand offenses/schemes so he needs specific coaching not to make him feel bad

He is in a position with his team that he is among their best 3 players every year which lacks the premier talent to support him [debatable, see next]

High end players, specifically WR will not thrive or choose his team because of his erratic play and willynilly decisions to play backyard ball

His team is tied to him financially because finding a QB who could do half of what he does would be extremely difficult

He's always going to have them pretty good.

The team made a choice of Jackson over Huntley. I'd have franchised him. Put a contract up that's reworkable and perfect to trade. Traded him in a heartbeat.

There were so many times today he should have run and decided to throw a short pass when running was the right call imo.  It's like he completely forgets what worked for him in the regular season.

Would Sean McDermott have purposely had his player take a penalty at the end of the game when it was first and five, in order to re set the downs and allow his two time outs left to be used to it's fullest extent?

    The answer is no

Harbaugh is the best coach in the NFL currently

I had to circle back to this.  It was first and five bc there were 12 men on the field!

Lets add in zay flowers and kyle vannoys terrible personal foul penalties.... I can only imagine the response on the board about how mcd doesnt teach discipline or accountability....

Definitely fair to criticize their unwillingness to run the ball. But it is just hard to win a playoff game against a championship contender when your QB plays as poorly as Lamar Jackson did today. Having a drive end on a fumble at the goal line and the next offensive possession start at their own 1 is also as big a momentum swing as an offense can have.

Meanwhile the Ravens defense gave up 4.6 yards per play... That's a great defensive performance against the Chiefs, giving up less efficiency than their season average even though the Chiefs were not making any mistakes on offense. The Chiefs were shut out in the 2nd half. That's a fantastic coaching result.

There's just no comparison between McDermott and Harbaugh. McDermott has now watched his QB have two all-time great playoff runs, and both ended in the divisional round because of his own defense. Harbaugh has not had anything close to that. Getting his team to the #1 seed in a brutal division and keeping them in the game against an elite opponent even while his QB was giving the game away, those are extremely impressive feats.

To your 2nd paragraph the ravens had an amazing defense all year long, not the patchwork mash unit that McD trotted out against the Chiefs.  It not fair to give one team roquan smith and patrick queen and the other tyrel dodson and aj klein and expect the same results.

To your last paragraph, the Bills keep losing to the chiefs.  They arent losing to the ryan tannehil led titans or philip rivers on his last legs.  In fact people give mcd ***** for barely beating rivers and he won!

At the end of the day the #1 seed lost at home by 10 with their full team.  The bills lost by 3 after a missed fg with an incredibly banged up team.  To my original point it is clear mcd and the bills have far outperformed harbaugh and the ravens.  Why doesn't he need to go too?

Better than Reid? Are you serious?

Reid took the Eagles to 5 straight championship games and the chiefs to 6 straight.

Harbaugh has been to 2 total in 12 years.

He has a defense that can hold the playoff chiefs to 17 though.  Josh would probably be undefeated against the chiefs if the bills defense could do that consistently.

He had a first team all pro safety and lb playing today.  The Bills had backup lbs and cbs playing.

In fact the Ravens were the #1 scoring defense this year and not missing both lbs.

If I was a Ravens fan, I’d be about at my wits end with Harbaugh.

    And Lamar.

But winning 1 ring does give you a super long leash.

How long of a leash?  Its been 11 years....

Since that 2012 season they have won 3 division titles, they missed the playoffs 4 of 5 seasons after winning that sb, and they have only made the division round 4 times with 1 afc championship game.  McD has outperformed or tied all of that in the last 4 years

    • Thank you (+1) 1
  7. If you want McD gone you have to think that Harbaugh needs to go too right?

After all no hc qb combo has won a sb after 5 years together.

After all he is 1-2 as the 1 seed since 2019.

After all he is 2-4 in the postseason since 2018.

After all he has only made it to 1 afc championship with one of the most electric qbs in the game.

After all he has a 2 time mvp qb and has only won 1 division title in the last 4 years.

After all he has lost to a washed up philip rivers and ryan tannehil in the playoffs!

After all he has a 1-3 playoff record at home since 2018.

So if you wamt McD gone for underperforming and losing to the chiefs 3 of 4 years certainly you think Harbaugh is trash and needs to go to right?

The Bills and McD have outperformed them over the last 6 years and the Ravens have the benefit of the mvp and 3 first team all pros this year vs the Bills single 2nd team all pro yet still lost to the same team at home as the Bills did.

Or does a super bowl 11 years ago followed by a single afc title game appearance this year carry that much water?

Recent history and performance clearly favors McD so I am very interested to hear opinions of Harbaugh and whether he should keep his job or be fired.

You're flat out wrong. In 8 of 17 regular season games Buffalo scored more than 24 points.

    Det did it 13 times

    Bal did it 11 times

    SF did it 12 times

    Dal did it 10 times

Miami did it 8 times too but that game they beat Denver inflates their offensive stats.

Besides points, you watch other offenses and see how wide open WRs get and the YAC they make.

And after they fired dorsey the bills did it 7 of 9 games including playoffs and their lowest output was 20 against that very strong kc defense on the road.

I agree with the bad coaching part. IMO watching other teams, especially those with top offenses is how easy they move the ball. They also have a lot more explosive plays more often.  All through that winning streak and the game against KC the offense struggled to score most games.

Becauase kc has one of the best defenses in the league!

Ive posted this elsewhere but you are flat wrong about how easy other teams move the ball.  They also have down games and tough stretches.  You just aren't emotionally invested in them so it doesnt matter as much and you aren't as critical.

Here are the top 5 offenses by ppg (buffalo finished 6th):

Dallas - scored 16 against a bad cards team before kyler came back, and 10 each against sf and buffalo.

Miami- 17 against philly, 14 against kc (7 in the rematch), 19 against balt, and 14 against buffalo with the division on the line.

San fran - 17 3 weeks in a row against cle, minn, and cin (2 of those 3 didnt make the playoffs).  19 against the ravens.

Balt - 19 against indy and 10 against pitt ( with lamar).

Det - 6 against baltimore, 13 vs chicago, and 19 against dallas.

Buffalo also finished 4th in ypg.

The issue is the team in their way had the 2nd best ypg and ppg against (both better than buffalo) while Buffalo brought an incredibly banged up defense.

  10. I too am not as upset as I would expect.

Is aj klein and a banged up tyrel dodson a super bowl winning lb group? That's an easy answer. If the bills had milano and bernard and the game ended the same way I would probably be more upset.

The Chiefs were healthy, and exploited a clear weakness.  Even with that the Bills played their hearts out and almost came away with it.

Wide right is just some cosmic salt on the wound.

I have fully accepted that it takes a ton of skill AND luck to win the super bowl and luck isn't really the Bills strength lol.

They’ll definitely be open the whole game.  It’s a couple miles away from Ithaca in Lansing.

If you’d rather be downtown there’s also Uncle Joe’s which is technically a Packers bar but you’ll obviously find no shortage of Bills fans.

Lansing is actually better for me I am coming from Auburn.

Really appreciate the help I'm trying to talk them into it now lol.

If you make it down I'll buy you a drink for the help!

Awesome thanks! Will they stay open for the whole game?

We usually meet at crossroads but it says they close at 9 and I don't want to have to deal with any nonsense at the end of the game lol

Possibly. I still think it is the place that makes most sense for Harbaugh and they have been reported as interested, though as yet no interview scheduled. I think if Harbaugh doesn't get it Pierce will. But I still think that is the best route for him back to the NFL.

So far Bienemy has zero interview requests for HC and other than the Raiders who are being quite deliberate everyone else is well into their process. I think he is facing another year of being an OC but in that field he will be very highly sought after.

Yep I might have left some words out there.  I was agreeing about being highly sought after for oc positions.

Pierce had a press conference earlier this week where he alluded to already having the job so I would be very surprised if he doesn't get that.

I don't how they'd make that decision. Other than Vegas who haven't started interviews yet beyond internal (and I still think are all in on Harbaugh) every other vacancy except Carolins has already interviewed more than 2 minority candidates.

I think Flores's lawsuit might hurt him (and he hasn't exactly shone in MIN, he has done okay but not jumped off the page). On Bieinemy I am not sure I expected HC interviews this year. I do think he will be a relatively hot commodity once teams get to the hiring OCs stage.

I think that Vegas job is Pierces.

I also think bienemy will be highly sought after.  If Reid does indeed retire I wonder if he would end up back in kc.

  15. I thought it could have been done last week when they announced the matchups.  They could have swapped KC and Buffalo games which would have avoided both weather issues.

At this time though, it is too late.  If they declare a SOE then we will see what happens but I don't know that will happen with a small band of lake effect.

side question: has any team ever made a deep playoff run with half a coaching staff? or even just an interim coordinator for that matter?

I see nobody answered your question but 1 example sticks out to me.

The Ravens fired Cam Cameron in december and hired jim caldwell to be their oc the year they won the super bowl.
