Shakir's route running is pretty good. He creates space after the catch, not before the catch.

This is a better way to say what I was trying to. If Shakir can find openings beforehand similar to what drove Beasley's effectiveness, he'll really take off (and if the drops of yesteryear don't return).

He's a good player (my definition of having arrived) and I hope he reaches the potential implied by this thread.

Not everyone is going to like the WR or player the Bills select at 28 (If they dont trade up/down or for a player). I think Mitchell is going to be an excellent player in a year or so but I expect growing pains along the way along with just about every young prospect. Insert McKonkey at 28 and Legette in the trade up in the 2nd, whoever they feel can help elivate us.

Fair enough. Ignoring prospects, I still think trading our 2024 and 2025 2nd rounders to move up in the 2nd is tough to fathom unless it's at the very top of the round. Hard to see the Bills doing that and making both picks receivers.

I would stay at 28 and draft AD Mitchell who should be there for us, in the 2nd round I'd trade pick 60 plus our 2nd (Bills) round pick in 2025 (it may take a bit more since I'm not around a draft value chart atm) and move up to take either Xavier Legette/Ladd McKonkey.

I think the only thing I like about this scenario is ending up with one of Legette or McConkey. I don't like Mitchell as a prospect and losing a very good 2nd round pick just to move up in the second round seems like awful value. Just take Legette or McConkey at 28.

I don't disagree, I even referenced his season as a mini breakout last year and some are seeing what I have been saying since 2022, but most are still over looking him and what his potential now is with Diggs gone.  Most still think of him as more of a role player.

It's not an unreasonable take. I really only frequent TBD, so I'm used to more plugged in bills fans (lol).

Id like to see Shakir add a few Beasley moves to find a soft spots in zones. He has done it, and I can't wait to see more

Yep unless I trade the farm for the top 3, in draft McConkey at 28 and trade up on the 2nd to take legette

Due to physical traits I think Legette will go before McConkey, but I'd be happy with either.

I think now that we need a WR who can legit compete from Day 1, our draft strategy may change a bit.

I see AD Mitchell, Franklin, Legette, & even Brian Thomas Jr as somewhat raw (to varying degrees) & in need of development- the type of guys who won't really come alive the last 6-8 games of their rookie year. I think McConkey is pro-ready now & could put up a Puka-like rookie season in our offense.

I think Burton is a WR1 ready to contribute....and I hate that I firmly believe he's going to the Chiefs.

After June 1 when Tre savings kicks in:

    1. Worthy pick 28

    2. Legette pick 60 or RD 2 trade up

    3. OBJ

    4. Samuel

    5. Shakir

    6. Hollins

    TE - Kincaid, Knox

    RB - Cook, Ty

    Better then last year’s group

I think Legette is going in round 1 and there's the chance that someone jumps the bills to get him before 28.

I think Mitchell Worthy and maybe Thomas slide, but I'm biased because they worry me (I don't want us to draft Mitchell or Worthy and im not totally sold on Thomas)

  8. I voted no because I don't think we can afford to get to the top three, and I don't think the next tier is a sure thing (Thomas Jr to a degree, and then Mitchell and Worthy who inactively don't want us to draft). Id be happy letting the draft fall to us.

I'm good with legette at 28. I really like Wilson and McConkey. My pipe dream is two from those three.

My heartbreaker guess is we'll get an early receiver (Legette) and get close to a shot at Jamari Thrash later on but he'll go before we can get there.

Camp competition for the swing tackle role, methinks.

I really liked the way Ryan VanDemark looked, but what the hell do I know?

I'll also give it up for my guy, Gouriage. I am so interested to see his preseason this summer.

    • I'm not confident about Brian Thomas Jr., AD Mitchell, Xavier Worthy and Keon Coleman.
    • Burton is a very good receiver but I doubt he's on our board.
    • I like Troy Franklin
    • Wilson and McConkey and Legette are really interesting

Tangential, @GunnerBill do you have a preferred WR-separation metric (burns?) and ranking of receivers based on that criteria?

  10. Picks after the trade:

    2024

    Round 1, Pick 28

    Round 2, Pick 60

    Round 4, Pick 128

    Round 4, Pick 133 (compensatory)

Round 5, Pick 144 (from CHI)

Round 5, Pick 160 (from GB)

    Round 5, Pick 163

Round 6, Pick 200 (from HOU)

    Round 6, Pick 204

    Round 7, Pick 248

    2025

    Bills 1st

    Bills 2nd

    Vikings 2nd

    Bills 3rd

    Bills 4th

    Bills 6th

    Giants 6th

I'd rather not lose 2025 picks, on the surface of it. So much potential movement for 2024 picks...if we stand pat in round 1 I can see moving a 5th and two 6ths for a 4th rounder (or two 5ths). Myriad possibilities.

Could we see any other moves for picks?

    Rasul Douglas? Dawson Knox?

not saying I’d be in favor or against

maybe each of those players could get a 4th though?

Dare I say it… Milano? I wouldn’t want to move him, curious what value teams would put on him

I got to give it to ya, you do love a trade

The 2nd next year was the best offer any team in the league was going to offer, Diggs is not viewed as a #1 by anyone outside of a bunch of stubborn Bills fans,

    I'm pretty happy with a 2nd tbh

It felt a bit like we lost our WR1 some time last Fall.

Just a little more context. Part of me actually thought he was hurt.  🤷‍♂️

But he will come out fired up next year! I can guarantee you THAT!!!  😂

I agree fwiw. Just the implication of 'the only this this changes is adding 3m on this year's cap' is a tad incomplete, because we lose Stefon Diggs while doing so.

I disagree with the “consummate professional” part of your post. Consummate pros don’t walk out on their teams after a tough playoff loss two years in a row, they also catch the Damn Ball in huge moments in huge games!

I agree. I'm just saying what I hope Brandon says, because other players will see we never treat our current of former players poorly.

  14. I hope Beane holds strong to a diplomatic line. "Thought it was in the best interest of our long term financial health, Stephon has been a great Bill and consummate professional, hate to play against him but it made sense for us."

Keeping it classy no matter what is a good FO approach.

Again...complete sensationalism on the dead cap hit stuff.  We are taking an extra 3.2 million against the cap now  to save BIG $ over the next few years with him being totally off the books

And losing our WR1 while having a large cap hit dedicated to him this year. I'm not making a statement on the trade, but it's a missing piece of context to that statement.

I think each pass that someone not named diggs catches cuts into diggs’ personal motivation a small percentage lol it’s gonna happen pretty quickly in Houston

In public statements though he’ll be a good teammate to try to disprove the diva label but over time that will fall by the wayside too

Sure, but I doubt in year 1.
