I’m VERY happy for you and your family. Oh, and you’re welcome.  😋

That is a LOT of Ca$h every month. Especially since it often comes around the time many people are starting to have kids. Somehow, we get by.  🤷‍♂️

EDIT: We have always said there are two things we would pay for, for ourselves and our kids. The first is education, and the second is housing. We let our son get a loan for his private school MBA, but then we paid it off when he finished. They just had their first child, the wife is out of the work force for a while, they are lucky. The best part is they know it.

Your children are very fortunate.  While we have small savings accounts for each of our kids that should cover books and a small part of their tuition, my wife and I are not interested in paying for our kids’ college education.

If they work hard enough in HS to earn scholarships and grants for academics/athletics then good for them.  Otherwise, they can choose an option (e.g., community college, trade school, etc…) that is commensurate with their effort and aptitude.  I’m not paying 70K per year so my kid can go to UVM just because it’s what they’re supposed to do after HS.

My son is very much an academic.  He works really hard in school, is in all honors/AP classes, and is near the top of his class.  My daughter is very bright, but is not so motivated by or interested in her academics.  They both will find a realistic life path.

Honestly, I made it alright, but I wish I had better guidance from my parents when I graduated HS.

Just to confirm, you have to make 10 years of qualifying payments, correct? So, wouldn’t the loan be completely paid off in many cases anyways? Seems they should look to lower this to 5 years.

As it stands, can you really qualify if you make a decent combined income? Or do you have to be on income based repayment to really take advantage of this?

The PSLF program has nothing to do with income.  It is for people who make student loan payments while employed in qualified “public service” professions such as public education.  I had to submit documentation from each of my 3 employers with their EIN to verify that they were qualified employers.

IMHO Meyers is this years Christian Kirk in terms of people around here underestimating his value in free agency.  He is a young ascending WR, who is also already seen as one of the better slot WR's in the NFL right now who produced on a team with a weak passing game.  I doubt he signs for less than $14M this offseason and his range is IMHO is probably $14M - $16M.

The WR market is just more expensive now with the higher cap and after the slew of WR deals in both free agency and extensions significantly raising their prices.  Furthermore, Pats signed Nelson Algholor for $11M per season, and Meyers out performed him, so hard to see him taking a deal that is less than what Nelson got in 2021.

Yes, you could very well be correct.  I got Meyers’ projected contract from Spotrac.  IIRC, it was just north of 10 million AAV.

    Johnny you deadbeat!

I paid off my law school loan debt fair and square years ago!

On a serious note, good for you!

If you weren’t a blood sucking attorney maybe you could have had your loans forgiven too.  😉 😂

I disagree this Buffalo Sabres team should be a NHL playoff team this season. This well the Buffalo Sabres aren’t a playoff team? Ok how long are Buffalo Sabres fans making these excuses? This is a brutal Sabres schedule down the stretch, our goaltending, our injuries, it been a rough year in Buffalo? Again and it isn’t a rough year in other communities? Yet some how they rise above to win Buffalo isn’t any different. If it was such a rough year in Buffalo explain how the UB Bulls won a bowl game, the Buffalo Bandits went to the NLL finals and the Buffalo Bills won the AFC East Division yet it is too tough for the Buffalo Sabres to rise above it? Why are the Buffalo Sabres any different? Expansion teams Buffalo Bandits MILL indoor lacrosse and Buffalo Stampede RHI roller hockey won championships there first season and there players were far from multi millionaires like the Buffalo Sabres? I am not asking anything unreasonable the Sabres making the playoffs half the teams make the NHL playoffs in hockey. Face it some Buffalo Sabres fans not this one give the Buffalo Sabres excuses for losing forever. That isn’t acceptable nor understandable anymore.

So Tage Thompson and Dylan Cozens are adult enough to sign a Buffalo Sabres NHL contract extension but just kids when the Buffalo Sabres lose? Which is it you can’t have it both ways Sabres fans with the forever excuses. If the Buffalo Sabres want to be treated like kids then they should be paid like kids? My point zero excuses anymore for the Buffalo Sabres. We are way beyond the excuses for the Buffalo Sabres. That Buffalo Sabres game was pathetic last night against the Toronto Maple Leafs the Buffalo Sabres took two periods off and decided to play in the third period in the hockey games garbage time not acceptable. Again this is a NHL team not Buffalo State Bengals Division 3 NCAA hockey with friends and family attending games as Buffalo State Bengals hockey fans. I don’t make excuses for that disgrace on Main Street Division I basketball that I am alum of Canisius College my Griffs basketball team is pure garbage and Reggie Witherspoon needs to be fired. So if I have a bar of expectations for Griffs basketball win the MAAC. I certainly have expectations for the Buffalo Sabres that players are multi millionaire players. To the Buffalo Sabres team do your job for the entire game and for my Griffs for the love of college basketball fire Reggie Witherspoon in my opinion. Go Sabres! Go Griffs! Let’s Go Buffalo

…or you could be able to think flexibly and understand while this team has assembled a core of very good young prospects and COULD make the playoffs, the reality is that they still have holes on the roster and aren’t quite to where they need to be to compete with teams like Toronto, Carolina, Boston, etc…

Both can be perceived to be true.  You can reasonably believe that this is a much improved team on the right trajectory.  You can also believe that playoffs is not yet a reasonable expectation.

My wife should be able to get hers forgiven this year, maybe next at the latest, she's been in social work since graduating from college with her Masters.

If she has any questions about the process, please let me know.  It can be tricky, and I made a couple mistakes with my paperwork that caused delays.  Has she consolidated her fed loans with Mohela?

At least have a good 3rd to get some mojo back.

They need to not get shut out here.  That is the goal.  Get some shred of dignity back.  Granted, against a very good team, but an absolutely abysmal performance.  Sabres are better than this.

i don't remember the name, but he might have been a freshman when i was a senior.  was he on the same team as brian gionta?

out of all of the major sports, we hung out with the hockey players the most.  did you ever happen to go to a party on campus in an area that looked like little houses?  they were called the mods, and we always had that crew over as their dorm was right next to our house.

Yeah, he was a freshman at BC in 2000 and graduated in 2004 so you probably didn’t know him.  He was a year behind me in school, but left to play prep hockey/USA development team after his sophomore year.

I honestly don’t remember much about my visits to BC 😂.   My sister was living in Brookline with my future BIL, and we went over to visit JD a couple times.  I do remember going to some house parties and hitting up some bars.  Fun times for sure.  My friend, Scott Padlick, also went to BC.  He was a couple years older than me.

lol with my income-based payments I was paid off after 8 years. So no, because I only made like 98 qualifying payments or something like that. But had I been in more debt or stayed at the NFP I worked for right out of college I would have eventually qualified.

Pretty sure law enforcement, corrections and fire fighters also qualify for PSLF, but sounds like you are all set 👌

No...am waiting for when they clear all student loads after being in an IBRE program once the loans are 20 or 25 years old regardless of how much is left to pay which is supposedly coming soon.

Best of luck.  Hope that comes through for you.

  11. October 2016.  Buffalo @ Miami.  The wife and I went down and stayed with some friends in West Palm and went to the game.  I forget the specifics, but it was a sloppy loss to a particularly bad Miami team.  The Dolphins fans were the absolute worst “away” fans I have ever experienced.  Constant harassment throughout the game, and there were quite a few Bills fans there.

After the game, we were walking to the car and some a-hole randomly ran up and punched my friend’s wife right in the face and then sprinted away.  There was security like 30 yards away that witnessed the incident and did absolutely nothing.  It was such a helpless, horrible feeling.

  12. I just received the letter today confirming that the remaining ~35K of my federal student loans have been forgiven after applying for the Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.

I finished my PhD program with just north of 120K in federal/private student loans (my folks didn’t pay for any of my education), and have been paying them off diligently for over 15 years.

This is HUGE for my family, as my monthly student loan payment was almost $1000/month before my final consolidation.   I was eligible because I had made at least 120 payments while being employed by public school districts.

Was anyone else able to take advantage of this program?  If so, cheers 🍻

not really.  in  high school we had a couple of guys that went pro in hockey.  very productive careers but unless you were local or really into hockey, i'm not sure anyone would know them.  same as college...mostly hockey pros, and i have a story where liz hasselback molested one of my roommates.

    Did you go to BC?
