  1. Just a nervous vibe for me at the moment. The Chargers should be the massive underdog with how the Bills are playing and the Chargers current injury situation. But man does the fact that they just changed their coach (dead cat bounce) and are coming off a mini-bye scare me.

Bills gotta take control of this game early and often. Don’t let this game be a game similar to the Giants game.

So all of this boils down to the quality of our performance evaluation at the position, eh?

It boils down to how many high draft picks and cap dollars are spent at positions vs. how much production has been achieved at those positions. If you invest 3 first-round picks in 4 years along the defensive line you better have a dam good defensive line. Whereas if you don't spend many draft choices and not a lot of cap dollars along the defensive line and you field a decent unit that's actually not a bad result.

Edmunds was a bit of a whiff and over draft. I can't remember nor do I have the time to go through the OL we brought in but there were a few vets that were barely JAGS to take depth roles over youth. I can look them up later

Edmunds started 5 seasons with the team and while I don't think he lived up to the billing he certainly was a solid player who filled a role and got this team a comp pick, and that's one draft resource from 2018. The team has not invested much in the position since then unless you count two later-round picks in 2022/23 or AJ Klein's lower mid-level free-agent signing in 2020 as being massive resources.

Offensive line the resources invested from 2020 to 2022 were far too limited. From 2020-2022 they only put one pick in the first 4 rounds into the offensive line (Spencer Brown a late 3rd round pick) and their biggest free agency signing was Saffold a mid-tier contract or resigning D. Williams to a modest extension. They always attempted to develop guys at the end of the bench like Ike or Bates.

I think your categorization and criticism just falls flat. If you really want to say where the Bills "overinvested" in years past I would say the defensive line has had a lot of big whiffs. Addison, Star, Murphy, and Butler were big additions cap-wise that fell flat. Those cap dollars could have been better spent on the offensive line or at WR.

  4. I trust the Bills "infrastructure" a lot more this season. The Bills going into the homestretch last season were really cracking under good results. The offense was Josh and Diggs making it happen with "Superman" like efforts. The offensive line was trash, the RB's were solid but not dynamic and the WR's/TE's not named Diggs were mediocre. The defense was playing well but showing some signs of cracking esp after the Von injury. The team was also overly dependent on Daquon to anchor the middle.

This year the offensive line is sooooo much better, James Cook and the traditional ground game has come alive and the supporting receiving crew is significantly better. Josh and Diggs don't have to carry the offense. The defense is also in a better position. The addition of Douglas has filled in nicely for Tre and the addition of Joseph and the return of Jones most likely means the team has two guys who can stuff the run which is a massive deal given how badly this team missed Jones in the Bengals playoff game last year. The edge rush also appears to be coming alive with Von finally showing signs of life and Floyd/Groot/Shaq holding things down and AJE coming back hopefully soon. Ed Oliver also is capable now of taking over games.

The team is just so much stronger in the trenches on both sides of the ball. They are much better built for playoff football this season.

Pro bowl is absolutely a joke. All-pro is a lot higher of an honor IMO. Pro bowl “games” shouldn’t even exist anymore. You want a real pro bowl? Make the all-stars participate in an 6 man football tournament chosen by a school yard pick. Offer a 1 million prize per player to the winning team.

They should "name" a Pro Bowl team as I think having some sort of secondary recognition beyond simply two All-Pro teams is a good idea. But the actual game or event should be done away with. Sadly it is still a TV product that gets ratings so they will continue to do it.

if we had kept Teller and Van Roten and evaluated LB's properly in the draft we might not have needed to use resources on the line we have now. just sayin.

What massive resources were spent along the offensive line? A mid-level free-agent addition in McGovern and a late second-round pick in Torrence? Dawkins has been here since 2017 and Mitch since 2019, Brown was a late 3rd round pick in 2021. Seems like the Bills did a good job overhauling the line without much in terms of resources.

We definitely should have kept Teller, not saying that wasn't a blunder but every regime has bad moves no matter how great they are. But there was no reason to bring back Von Rotten and have him start. Von Rotten was 32 years old and had never been more than a marginal backup and in his lone year with the Bills he was terrible. There was no reason to believe that he was anything more than a mid-level backup at this point in his career.

Also what massive resources have been spent at LB? Two late third-round picks? At this point, you are just looking for something to be aggrieved about.

This pick up was another one of Beane's great pick up's he has been a force & i hope with his help & experience they can bring a trophy to Buffalo !!

Although due to injury the Von signing has not paid off this season thus far, one of the main reasons this team was able to sign Floyd was because of the relationship between Von and Floyd from that Rams SB run.

So that Von signing is paying off in other ways.

  8. PFF rates him as a 76 I know PFF is flawed but there isn’t too many other offensive line stats to go by. He’s allowed 4 sacks which is good not great but has no penalties against him which is great so the other oline stats back up him having a good season. Sometimes players just oddly break out

  9. Somewhat smart to ask for a high amount of money as the more money a team is giving you the more they have invested in you and the more you have a chance to succeed. But that doesn’t always work out and if your price is too high teams will not give you an offer as you are still just an up and coming coordinator.

There are only 32 NFL HC jobs out there so you can’t be too selective either.

  10. Buy: Von Miller he has been perking up the past couple of weeks, I don’t think that Von is going to be what he was pre injury last season but I think he will make more and more positive plays.

Hold: James Cook second big offensive weapon. Cook is the guy and don’t expect that to go anywhere.

Sell: Doom and Gloom. This team is peaking at the right time.

I think putting games on streaming services only is stupid of the nfl. But I also remember the days of blackouts where you couldn't watch a game if it wasn't sold out by 4pm on Thursday. So Ya, I'll pay 5.99 to watch the bills this Saturday

5.99 also gets you whatever WWE PPV they have on there plus all the other content on Peacock you may be interested in watching for a month (I would certainly recommend watching Twisted Metal if you were a fan of those video games). So it wasn't like cable was that great anyway. At least with streaming you can go month to month watch whatever you want and then cancel for a few months.

You're right, I expect, but never underestimate the ability of people to make terrible decisions in the name of greed

If there was more money to be made via PPV they could do it. But the dollars and cents decision still supports it being on broadcast TV. It makes the broadcast packages worth more which is direct big money and then you have the secondary aspects of it being a cultural event that helps the brand. Even being greedy a PPV Super Bowl would be a terrible idea.

He was not moved out for Shakir or Kincaid.  Kincaid was not even signed.  The Bills let him go because they overpaid Hardy.

I know Hardy was the guy they 1 to 1 replaced Mac with but I should have been more clear that it ended up working out as it paved the way for Shakir and Kincaid to get the snaps. Even though Hardy is a massive overpay I do think he is a better player, he just isn't putting up massive numbers due to lack of volume. I think if he had to take on a bigger role like Mac did last year he would produce better than Mac. Still would have preferred they spent the money elsewhere as he is an overpaid decent punt returner at this point.

  14. Mac was a nice WR4/5 gadget player when he was here but this team needed to move on. He really seemed to enjoy being here and he made a few plays here or there. I remember in 2021 when the Bills played New England away in a must game for the division and he balled out.

But the team needed to move on and get Shakir more opportunities and make room for Kincaid and two TE sets. Mac hasn’t done much in Indy this season probably will sign on here next year as a PS veteran guy.

I still don't know why Milano can't be ready if we get in the playoffs. How long does it take for a fractured leg to heal? He did it in week 5, it's week 16. It's 11 weeks since the injury and another 3 added on in the next 3 games, I would think he could be somewhat ready by playoff time if we get there

Banged Up Bills did a pretty good breakdown of the injury (see link below) the return to play from this injury is usually 8 months which is 1.5 months longer than the entire season (training camp/pre-season through the Super Bowl included) so the timetable is going to put Milano having a full return in May which should allow him to work out fully for two plus months before training camp and won't impact him for next season hopefully. Banged Up Bills, however, did note that there were a few examples of players who returned from a similar injury post-surgery after about 3ish months. But those seem to be the exception to the rule and not the rule. And from what McD has thus far said I would think Milano is likely out even if the Bills are playing in mid to late January. But if he hasn't been officially ruled out I guess anything is possible.

    https://bangedupbills.com/2023/10/09/examining-buffalo-bills-matt-milanos-right-knee-injury/

"The first case is Kansas City Chiefs S Daniel Sorensen who suffered a left tibial plateau fracture with lateral meniscus tear in the preseason in 2018. He underwent surgery in mid-August and was able to miss the first nine games of the season on injured reserve before returning to play in Week 10 to play in seven regular-season games and two playoff games.

The other instance is a case report from PFATS, the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society. This was done by Andrew DePietropaolo PT, DPT who is an Assistant AT for the Green Bay Packers. He highlighted a case where the player suffered a similar injury to what Matt Milano suffered and they were able to return to practice in 10 weeks and played half a game later that week. It’s also worth highlighting that this case involved an MCL internal bracing to address ligament laxity from the initial injury.

This player was OL Josh Myers who returned to play at 10.5 weeks and played in a full playoff game at 12 weeks. Different duties with offensive line vs linebacker, but still some positive news."

Yep, just like last year vs. Cincy in the divisional round

I loved the addition of Ford in the offseason as I thought Ford could be a backup "run stuffer" once they realized Ford stunk they signed Joseph and that's back filled for Jones run stuffing ability really well. Joseph isn't the same pass rusher disruptor as Jones but at least the Bills were able to stop the gaping holes up the middle of the defense that existed when Jones was out and Joseph wasn't there.
