Changes coming to Bills front office?
Delete This Account replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And I apologize to those if I've broken the rules of conduct here in my response to Promo here. But his nonesensical attacks are just that. I believe I deserve the opportunity to defend myself, given what Promo has posted in his various stalking methods, first on twitter and now bringing that discussion to here. I'll take whatever discipline you see fit. But I'll promise to merely ignore Promo after this last exchange. It's futile dealing with him. jw -

Good lord, Promo, give it a rest. I get all indignant with you because you're fully and completely inept at comprehending things. You ask questions to which I don't have an answer for, and instead suggest that I speculate on something, which is something I don't do. I write it's a mild surprise that Whaley still around after disastrous news conference. You come back and say, why not just say Whaley's getting fired. Why would I say something like that when I don't have the answer to it. Then you suggest that all you want is "clarity." Holy geez. How do I respond to that when l don't have clarity. And now you come on here -- as I predicted -- to make your case that I'm somehow was being indignant and that I merely "drop rabbit turds," as you put it. My only loyalty is to the facts. What I've stated here and posted on Twitter are facts. And I do find it interesting that Sal Capaccio is reporting that Whaley won't handling the pre-draft luncheon. That's interesting because the Bills GMs always have. That you can't find clarity in that answer is because there is no clarity. Whaley is still the GM. The only clarity I can provide is that you continue to expose yourself as being dense. Sincerely, jw -

Let's go point by point: 1) The team is a joke off the field because it can't get any traction on it. And it seems as if each move the team makes (Shaq surgery/Ragland injured/Sammy Watkins surgery/Marcell suspension/Karlos cut, among the most recent) backfire on them. 2) Whaley's post-season press conference: It was mandated. And he was aware it was coming. In fact, he was nervous it was coming. In fact, had he addressed certain issues (and he is the one who chose not to, despite PR staff's requests), some of the issues could have been relieved. If PR staff asks and the GM says no, what to do? 3) The national media lambasted Whaley for seeming to know very little about the Bills operation he apparently oversees. 4) Because Whaley once again declined to address the Rex Ryan firing -- and he was requested numerous times -- the PR staff was left with no choice but to parade out Lynn without a net. Didn't help that others in the front office, Russ Brandon, namely, has washed his hands of the public oversight of the football operation does not help. 5) When have I said Scott was a "nice" guy. I said I respect the job that he did and he treated me professionally. 6) Yes, you add value to people by making their lives easier, and yet this is a franchise that appears to continually take the long road with too many missteps to mention, and no way to smooth over the obvious jagged edges. 7) There was little accountability in the final Wilson years. How does that reflect on the PR staff when those above them are attempting to fill the many pockets and vacuums of power. I think that reflects more poorly on those who were entrusted by Ralph to handle that responsibility with loyalty and foresight. Instead, they kept making inexplicable signings and draft-day moves and selections. But of course, all this falls on Scott. jw Crazy thing is, people made fun of Rex Ryan winning the offseason. And, it seems some will be more than content with the Bills having an NFL-leading PR staff, because that's what truly matters. -

1) I wrote I respect Scott and won't speak ill of him. 2) How a PR staff functions has nothing to do with the product on the field or personnel moves. 3) Your sarcasm meter is in the "off" position. jw -

yes, attendance sure dropped off over the past two years. jw thanks, good poster. jw so, by comparison, Scott once did such a good job, he played a role in ensuring Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed stayed with the Bills, and then went on to attract the likes of Mario Williams, Takeo Spikes, London Fletcher to sign on with Buffalo. now you've got me wondering if this move is fully tied to Tyrod Taylor's future in town. jw -

so, you're positing that negative press has an impact on success, even if ever so slightly. well, sir, i present to you a few examples. -- Deflategate. -- Are the Browns any better even though they're on their third VP of communications since 2012. -- A year after Ray Lewis pleaded guilty to obstruction charges in relation to a double-murder investigation, he was the NFL's defensive player of the year and Super Bowl MVP. -- Last year's election. To the same extent: -- Is the Knicks PR staff to blame for what's gone wrong under Dolan? -- Do the Baltimore Colts PR staff take heat for the team relocating to Indianapolis? Or the Chargers, now? -- How much blame does the Sabres PR staff deserve when the team somehow and inexplicably failed to re-sign Drury and Briere? -- The NFL fumbled the ball badly on Ray Rice. Was that the PR staff's miscue or Roger Goodell who, in a question posed by me at Canton that summer, insisted the league followed its suspension policy. But blame the PR person for the follies of others. jw -

and the drought. don't forget the drought. he's solely responsible for that. as for these crisis moments you speak of, the crisis are self-inflicted by higher-up mismanagement, be it how Doug Whaley mishandled himself this past season over a variety of issues, not only his season-ending presser, which was a coup-de-gras, or the various power struggles that continue to emerge in the posts above him. i said i respect the job that Scott did, because it wasn't an easy one, knowing the daily demands and pressures that have come with it. you seem to suggest that he failed to protect the franchise's image, as if he could stick his thumb in the dam and stop the water from bursting through. you suggest i have an agenda here. dunno. i respect Scott. can't say i count him as a "friend." i've had only a few drinks with him ever, and that was one evening at training camp. as for this WNY bubble you suggest I live in, i'd counter with the naysayers like you on this board constantly harping on one thing that has nothing to do with the other thing, as if: "Yes, this will solve the problem." yes, Scott bears responsibility. but not at the expense of others who should take a large amount of the blame but go scurrying off and hide behind no comments or "i'm not privvy" statements when the going gets rough. pretty certain this clears up any questions about my comprehension skills, but lord only knows with you. jw -

jeebers. yes. Scott was going to go on stage and stop Ralph Wilson from riffing with Marv about how "young" they were. and of course, Scott is the one who pushed Mularkey out the door, and then hired Marv in hopes he would take over as coach before finally being reeled in by Ralph. and it was Scott who insisted Donahoe go on the radio and call the fan "a jerk." and he was behind the wheel of Lynch's car when he struck the pedestrian downtown. and, of course, he actually pulled the mat out from under Kevin Kolb just at the moment he stepped on it, slipped and hurt his knee. now the full story can be told. jw -

Lord. Ralph Wilson hired Marv. It was Ralph's decision alone. He felt burned by Tom Donahoe and believed he couldn't trust an outsider. So he turned to Marv. Scott had nothing to do with it. My point is, focus on what ills have confounded this franchise. jw -

You all make far too much out of little, missing the bigger points for the minutia, in my humble opinion. To think that the VP of communications has anything to do with onfield football related or personnel matters, the drought, the carousel of coaches and GMs, the lack of a quarterback, the decision to trade up to draft Sammy Watkins, Trent Edwards starting, Dockery's contract, Marcell Dareus' latest suspension, why they drafted EJ, Doug Marrone's abrupt departure or anything else then I'm terribly sorry for you and you might need to get out of the basement for a spell or two. As with any media relations person in my 23 years covering a pro beat, I've had my differences with Scott. It happens. But I'm not going to speak ill of him. He treated me with respect and as a professional. And that included even at the more heated times during my early years covering the team. I sincerely wish him the best in his new role, and hope he enjoys the additional time he now will have to spend with his family. jw
