  1. And what would change, really? If a guy can't catch on with the Raiders, what's he going to do with the Bills???

    PTR

Unfortunately, the Raiders have better QB's than we do. Campbell, Gradkowski, and Boller are unfortunately far superior to Edwards, Fitzpatrick, and Brohm. If Boller is playing well enough as the #3 to keep Brennan from seeing the field that doesn't mean Brennan isn't worth a look on our part. My impression from Brennan is that he's certainly not afraid to throw the ball, and I think he's got more talent than our other resident "gunslinger," Fitzy (I think I just threw up in my mouth calling Fitzpatrick a "gunslinger").

Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable seems overall pleased with the play of backup quarterback Kyle Boller.

Unfortunately for the recently signed Colt Brennan, Cable’s praise of Boller likely means a one-way ticket out of town is in his future.

“I think Kyle Boller went in there and did some nice things … did some things I’m sure he’d like to do over again, but he also was able to make some big throws and give us a couple of plays that gets us into a chance there,” Cable told reporters on a conference call Friday afternoon.

The original plan was for Brennan to close the game against the Cowboys, but the Raiders coaches opted to stick with just two quarterbacks in the game.

Boller was a respectable 12-for-21 passing for 148 yards and one touchdown Thursday night and could have sealed his spot as the team’s third quarterback behind Jason Campbell and Bruce Gradkowski.

(that's how you post a link, Beerball)

  3. Again, the love for Nic Harris. What "promise" did this guy actually show?? I wish him the best too, but as an undersized LB who played as if he had limited football instincts (perhaps due to the position change) and was average-at-best in coverage, I doubt he'll "find a lot of success in Carolina." This guy is a black Coy Wire. Too slow to play safety, to small to play LB, can't cover from either.

  4. "If things go well" did u miss that part?

If things are going that well I better play the lotto heavy this year. In the words of Carl Brutananadilewski, "it's never friggin' happening."

You obviously haven't read the entire thread. I have no faith in Maybin what-so-ever. I'd make the same bet if I could find a sucker willing to make it.

6 sacks aren't a lot to ask. Some of those will be coverage sacks, some will come when the QB trips and falls...

We don't have a pass rush. We will finish 32nd in sacks this year.

Trust me, I read all thrilling two pages of this thread. But you say you have "no faith" and yet you'll be "pleasantly surprised" with eight sacks? If you really have "no faith" in him I'd think you'd be a little more than "pleasantly surprised" with eight sacks. I have no faith either, obviously. He gets three sacks and I'll be pleasantly surprised. He gets eight and I'll take off all my clothes and run around the house during the first snowstorm.

  5. Eight sacks from Maybin would be nice. I'd be pleasantly surprised to see that happen.

I'm going with Kelsay for six.

Eight for Maybin?? I'll bet you a grand he doesn't get half and put it in escrow right now. Deal?

    Omg u again :-p

    You know it.

I think Kelsay could get 6 if things go well. *nods my head in agreement*

From a new position at 30 years old? A position that doesn't suit his already limited skillset? Maybe half that. For his salary Kelsay should be cut.

  6. All you guys that think Maybin is gonna get it and lead the team in sacks this year are !@#$ing hysterical. Aside from Aaron Schobel, Chris Kelsay led the team last year with five sacks from his natural position at DE. Behind him Kyle Williams had four, while Ryan Denney and Spencer Johnson had two apiece. Schobel's gone, Kelsay and Williams have moved to positions that don't fit their skill sets (there is no way Kelsay excels at OLB and even if Williams who is a prototypical 4-3 DT excels he won't be racking up sacks), Denney is 33 and still terrible, and Spencer Johnson likely comes off the bench this year.

My guess is we have QB-pressure-by-committee, register somewhere between 24th and 30th in sacks with Torbor leading the way with 5.5. Maybin is cut at the end of 2011. If we want someone to rush the passer that has no skills except for his speed (and Mike Mayock's prized first step ("you either wake up with it in the morning or you don't")) but is finished once the opposing tackle gets a hand on you, then maybe we should just have Roscoe rush the passer. Wouldn't be any less effective, IMO.

  7. Except that his link was valuable.... and your commentary was not. Thanks.

I'm not sure that quoting buffalobills.com is all that valuable since undoubtedly everyone here goes there. Especially with no insight given and the most limited description possible. But thanks for your input.

As it is with every one of his posts...

    Hahaha...oh man. From you? Priceless.

    Yes, I would mind. Thanks.

If the thread title grabs your attention click away on the link. If not...don't.

Why even bother? It's not like people don't check bb.com. I guess if you want to make yourself feel like you're contributing to something...

  8. Uhhh...the old Foxboro stadium was an overgrown high school schitthole stadium. Gillette is really a million times better.

    PTR

Sorry, but you're wrong here. There were no bad views at Foxboro. Trying to watch a game or a concert from the upper level at Gillette is horrible. Maybe not enough amenities but I'd trade that in for lower prices and better views any day.

  9. What is the obsession with a new stadium? Seven games a year are played at the Ralph and I think it's one of the best places to see a game. Who cares if it's not new and fancy? It's also not a billion dollars. The problem with people in this country is that they assume bigger/newer = better. Gillette Stadium isn't half as great to watch a game as Foxboro was. Same with Citi Field and Shea Stadium. Relax, people.

  10. jags, bengals, bears, jets, pats (x2), fins. maybe even the packers.

10-6 capable of beating any team in the league any given sunday.

please tell me why you think the Bills are so bad. is it all that you have read?

10-6? You must be a mile "high". Not a chance.

We'll lose to Cincy, NE (x2), and GB. .500 is pushing it. 10-6 is for heavy drug users only.

  11. Give Moats and Batten a chance before you're so quick to dismiss. Who cares about where they were drafted, or the small schools that they came from, one (or both) may turn into a find. One of the first things Drayton Florence tweeted back at OTAs, "just got to camp. I can tell you this, that #57 (Batten) is a player." Our own figure head Chris Brown, stated that Batten was the fastest OLB the Bills have. Give them a chance to sink or swim and don't automatically assume that both will suck, like every other previous late round LB..

It's not that I assume they'll suck, it's that people need to settle with their expectations on players like that. It doesn't matter who it is, it's always the same unfounded optimism by what feels like a majority of posters. I wish the best for Batten and Moats and anyone in a Bills uniform, but it seems like every few days there's someone posting about how excited they are for Player X to get his opportunity for no good reason. Besides, are we really getting hyped up about a tweet? Seriously?

The first one I remember this being about was Alvin Bowen. There was no reason whatsoever to be even remotely excited about his presence on the team, yet so many were. Then Bowen got cut after one year and Nic Harris came along. An undersized converted safety who scouted poorly, the masses talked about him like he was the next Cornelius Bennett, yet he couldn't even cut it as the next Coy Wire. Now I hear the same about Moats and Batten yet these people have undoubtedly never seen this guy play a down except for maybe a 30 second youtube video they watched the day after the draft. If you went to SDSU or JMU and you saw him play frequently then that's one thing, but the unfounded and baseless optimism just gets old after awhile.

  12. Since you seem to know the unforeseeable, do you have tonight's lottery numbers?

It didn't take a psychic to realize that a slow LB with poor field awareness and an undersized converted safety, both late round draft picks, weren't going to light it up in the NFL.

The impressive thing about Nic Harris is his life story. You must root for men like Nic, whether he makes it as a pro football player or not. He has made it as a man, which is more than most on this board. There are intangibles beyond whether or not he makes the team that you must look at. Also Bowen and Harris both blew out knees. That they have not made it back from serious injury is unfortunate but not because they "suck". I'd rather root for a losing team full of Bowens & Harris's then some collection of prima donna's like the new Miami Heat or NY Jets.

    Good luck with that.

  13. Yep, the real scouts can predict injuries :)

Doesn't matter. The guy was never going to be a player, but people learn someone's name and automatically start interjecting him into the lineup. They were doing it with Alvin Bowen when I got to this site. He sucked and got cut. Then it started with Nic Harris. Ditto for him. Now we get to do it all over again with Moats and Batten. SSDD.

  14. Adams is hardly the difference for this team and the SB. I'd rather see how our young players develop.

    Shockingly, sometimes players get better.

    +1

Wood and Levitre are just going to get better. The whole line is so young - Hangartner is the oldest one at 28. Sure LT is a soft spot, but I don't think the entire line is all that weak. I'll put money on whomever wins the battle at LT outperforming a 35 year old Flozell Adams.

  15. I think a bigger question will be: what happens if Edwards has a relatively good year - not great, but good - like top 15 QB. Do we go after one of the QB's next year who is supposed to have greatness potential, or, do we stick with Edwards and give him an extension, which might cost us quite a bit. Can we be very comfortable with the idea that Edwards will be good from year to year, now that we've seen him break down?

And, if we do decide to keep him - if he has a great year, say top 8 QB, then what do we do with the contract? Because he's due.

I"m of the opinion that we go after, and hard, the best QB we think is available in next year's draft. Keeping Edwards or not, I don't think the two should effect each other. Then, we can have a back up plan, and a mentor, and development time.

Here's for hoping good things from Edwards.

It'll be the Derek Anderson situation in Cleveland all over again. He was a one-hit wonder that year he went to the Pro Bowl and his contract just happened to be expiring. So they gave him a deal somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 years/$24M, he sucked the next year, really sucked the next year, then got cut.

If Edwards has a top-15 QB season I think we're in much better shape than we thought. That puts him up around Matt Ryan/Tony Romo and I just don't see it happening. If it does though we probably don't draft in the top ten next year and we can probably justify going after a different position than QB. Interesting thought though.
