Hey Dwight, the soft tissue injuries through three weeks around the league this season seem pretty bad.

A lot of teams are very banged up, not just our Bills, though we seem to be the poster child of injuries this year. The Chargers and Titans have been very injury prone too. We don't talk about the Titan injuries much, but they were in rough shape by game end with Buffalo. By the end of the Titans game Bills fans were thrilled and pointed out a big win, while Titan fans were noting their large amount of injuries. A week later Dolphin fans are thrilled with a win over Buffalo, while Bills fans point out the injuries.

I think the NFLPA felt they got a 'win' for their constituents by reducing training camp and pre-season games/ contact. I'm not sure that was such a victory.

The short week to prepare for an extreme heat/humidity situation in Miami did not help. We can look at trainers etc, but they had a short week to prepare. The product on the field yesterday was not a good look for the NFL. I don't say that as a Bills homer. Clearly Buffalo suffered worse from the elements coming from a cooler climate and off of a short week, but plenty of Dolphin players were struggling by game end too. The game got sloppy and attritional.

I think this last game is a statistical anomaly, we are seeing bad injuries around the league, but every year there are teams that suffer badly. We saw this last year with the Ravens and Giants too.

Anyone who follows statistics and large data sets is aware of the mean (average) and regression to the mean. In short, over enough data inputs for a relatively closed system, the results will almost always trend back to the average. Buffalo has been very lucky with injuries the past few years. The Bills are 'catching up' to the average injuries, but are doing it all at once, and in two or three units (DB/ OL/ WR).

Thank you..makes lots of sense.. appreciate that observation/ input

  2. I am an old guy.. been watching football for as long as i can remember (Colts /.Giants 1958 , vaguely was 6).. my point.. all thru the years watching the NFL , an injury was more of a happenstance.. yesterday , it was surreal, as play after play.. we saw it.. i realize the obvious, bigger, different style, get all that.. is it simply the size of the players? And/ or technique ?

Agree.  How Jennings fell for that I'll never know.

He really did.. Back in that time, Stern was carried on  regular radio and he had Michaels on a while after it, pretty funny stuff also as he tried to explain it all .. Its actually on Youtube..

I was six in 1960 dad took me to games as a 4year old. Nothing could ever replace "Wide Right"

For some reason that didnt bother me as last year, or the 81 playoff loss to the Chargers , guess its probably because there was no "next game" , in both cases , the Bills were slated to host the AFC Championship game, had they won..  but i certainly know  the pain of "wide right"

  5. As an   8 yr old kid in 1960, i have been following this team with the same passion i have had since then.. , lived through it all.. and can honestly say , without any hesitation , the ending of last season hurt me more than any of the other heartbreaks.. been counting the days down so the new hope  of today, the new season, buries  the painful ending of last season..

It really isn't that hard to figure out, is it?  The OP, @Bermuda Triangle, made a thread insinuating Talib was involved in killing a youth football coach.

You know, punch the name "Aqib Talib"into a little known search engine called Google and nothing comes up mentioning Talib involved in murder.

Complicated stuff I know but I hope that explains it to you.

    Huh? Oh OK..Google ..

Great post. The Kemp/Lamonica debate ruled sports conversations then while the team played in 3 straight Title games.

btw, I lived in Limerick back in ‘83, building Limerick 2 nuke plant.  What a sports year to be there! Phillies, 76ers & USFL Stars all we’re Champions that year! Only the Eagles sucked. 😉

Wow.. i moved here in 2008, and can see the nuke plant pretty much from where i live .. and if you would have told me back in the 70'sthat i would move to Philly after all the hate i had for the Flyers back in those days.

Daryle Lamonica was our little secret. Spelling Kemp often and offering more accuracy. 4 playoff years in a row with him on the roster, we wouldn’t return for 8 years afterward.  Al Davis hoodwinked Ralph in trade for QB Tom Flores and WR Art Powell. He would go in to win MVP twice, lead the Raiders to a Super Bowl, MURDER the Bills nearly every time he played against us and ended his career with the 2nd most credited wins.

He died earlier this year at 80 years old.

Sure do remember  him, those years well.. "we want Lamonica:" when Kemp would be off his game a bit.. It was tough as a Bills fan  to watch him have such success as the Bills floundered .. but as a staunch AFL guy (kid back then) great to see his legacy  live on..
