  1. Mack is the best center out there, period, and none of the others are close.

I think that getting a center who can hold up against the huge nose tackles in this division is going to make a huge difference, huge, in the offense. It often happens that a line that looks terrible can suddenly look very good with one guy replaced. I think with a good center we will see a quantum improvement in this OL, and that will make us a much much better team.

To me, center is as big a need as DE. And both are huge!!

I would be VERY disappointed if we come out of the draft without either Mack or Luigs. We need a very big guy in there to go against Kris Jenkins, Jason Ferguson and Wilfork.

To me, if we don't think that Luigs will be available when we pick in round 2, then yes, get Mack in the first. It's not a bargain, but it will be the single biggest impact player we could pick up. DEs take a while to get going.

Point taken, and I do agree that C is a big need.

I just feel that there's a considerable dropoff in talent from the top DE's in a draft to the ones in rounds 3+, year in, year out. While the same doesn't appear to be true for OL. Of course, I haven't done a study on this...it's just observation, and I could very well be wrong. That's just the impression that I get.

Also, while our OL might not be great, pass protection has been quite well all year long. Both JP and Trent have had ages standing back there in the pocket. Run blocking could use a bit of an improvement though.

Our D-line on the other hand, well, they simply always fail to get a pass rush. I think we went a stretch of something like 3 games with 1.5 total sacks. Unacceptable for an NFL team--especially one that runs a tampa/cover 2.

  2. This theory sounds good, except it's ...FALSE. The Bills problem has zero to do with their payroll. They spend plenty. 16th out of 32 teams in payroll. Fine. There are more frugal teams out there. The Steelers come to mind as a frugal organization that is clearly a success. The difference is they have a philosophy. They draft a particular type of player, with a focus on the lines and defense. They refuse to overpay aging stars. they simply draft a "clone" player that fits their system. They rely on their scouting and drafting and occasionally supplement via free agency. The Bills have no philosophy and draft mainly for "needs". They are then forced to overpay via free agency for average players to make up for their poor drafting. It's a vicious cycle. Because of this lack of focus, the Bills excel at nothing in particular on the field. They are always in a cycle of changing their defensive scheme every few years so they often have a "square peg round hole" situation with players. Too many of their high picks have been at skill positions, who teams tend to not resign. Very rarely do quality O line or D line players reach free agency. Teams tend to resign those players. The Bills struggles could have been avoided by drafting high for linemen and linebackers vs corners and wideouts. A nate clements simply isn't as valuable to your team as a Tommie Harris, Richard Seymour etc. So you constantly lose a high number of your 1st round every few years. The Bills drafts of O and D linemen have been very poor. Mike Williams, Erik Flowers, John McCargo, Ron Edwards, Dusty Ziegler. It's a procession of mediocrity. They haven't drafted a quality O lineman since Ruben Brown. Their best D line draft pick since the mid nineties is Aaron Schobel, a good player but hardly dominant. Is it any wonder they struggle to win ballgames? You simply can't build a quality line via free agency alone. Our best D linemen since Bruce? Ted Washington, Sam Adams, pat Williams, Marcus Stroud. None of whom were drafted by the Bills. Our front office stinks by any measure, and is the root cause for the rudderless Bills we've watched since the Superbowl teams dwindled away.

    great post

  3. While Mack may turn out to be great, there are several Centers in this draft that are potentially just as good and will be way cheaper on draft day.

In my opinion, what we have to do is clear: This team needs an impact player. Period. We don't need to trade down, we don't need more depth, we need PLAYMAKERS. Our first pick will have to be either a DE or a DE. If an Orapko or Johnson aren't there when we pick (anywhere between 8 and 10), we trade UP and get one.

If I have to see one more year of Kelsey AND Denney starting, I'll f'ing VOMIT.

    IMO, we should go:

    1. DE

    2. TE

    3. C

    4. LB

    5. WR

    6. whatever

    7. etc.

Hopefully we can get a solid LB in FA to fill in for Crowells spot, b/c Ellison isn't cut out to be a starter. If we can't get a LB in FA, then we'll have to draft one high and move the TE down a round or two. That's what I would do at least.

  4. a piece of dick jaurons press conference. i believe it was from today. he got GRILLED by questions regarding his contract situation and his future with the bills. He was clearly rattled and shaken (imho). It was like he was chum and the reporters where great white sharks out for blood.. I hate the man as the bills HC, but I felt a little bad. He needs to go though. asap

Ya, the fact that he appears to be a nice guy makes it harder on me (and I'd assume most of us)..but again, this is a business where success is only measured by victories; Jauron simply fails to produce in that category.

  5. This is exactly how I feel, and Rubes posted this very topic last night.

To me, it's not about excusing JP for his putrid performance on that play (b/c there is no excuse), but rather that he never should've been put in that situation to begin with.

Coaching 101: Put your players in the best possible position to succeed. Play to their strengths, and more importantly, be aware of their limitations.

  6. This team is young, and it appears to be regressing rather than improving--that's the scary part to me.

Last year we had a plethora of injuries, and a much tougher schedule and yet were more competitive. This year, Brady goes down, our schedule is an absolute joke, we don't have many significant injuries other than Schobel and Edwards (just recently), and we stink it up to high heaven.

  7. 31 other teams are happy that Jauron is a nice guy...they're much happier that he's an incompetent NFL head coach.

i'm personally sick and tired of hearing how nice everyone is on the bills--such a high character organization we are. Certainly, no other team in the NFL wins while maintaining the high moral standards of the Bills. What a freaking joke.

BuffaloBills.org: your site to a bunch of gutless tree-hugging pansies who lose with class.

Last time I checked, a little mean-streak in football can actually be a positive thing. There's something to be said about a team's "intimidation" factor, and the fact that we seem to lack any.

  8. I thought JP played well up until the 2nd and 5 play (which was an assinine call). He threw a TD pass (when was the last time we've seen one of those from Trent?) and ran for a TD and at least one first down. Made several good 3rd down conversion on passes. I'd a liked to have seen him throw a bomb or 2, but obviously Dick didn't feel comfortable with it.

I also thought the running game was dynamite again.

Defense played OK. Gave up too many yards, points and Time of Possession. But good enough to win.

Please no more rookie QBs next year. Please. Let's get a vet in the off season. There's some available like Warren,Collins, and Garcia. Or let's try to work a trade for McNabb or Bulger. This team is close and a good veteran QB who knows how to win already could push us over the top. I see QB as our greatest weakness.

Just because a guy doesn't turn it over quite as much as JP does not make him not a turn over machine.

I agree..I don't want to see another rookie QB here for a long, long time. I want a freaking veteran who's at least savvy enough to know what the F@#ck is going on on the field...b/c it's apparent that our coaches don't have the slightest clue.

I would personally trade our 2nd round this year, and 2nd round next year to get McNabb. He's still in his prime, and he's a QB who can play in crappy weather. However, I still want to see more from Edwards..so hopefully he can patch up his vag, and get on the field again before the end of the season. If/how he plays the last two games, that might indicate which direction we should go in the offseason.

With any kind of decent, consistent QB play this year we would could EASILY be 10-4 right now. (Wins against Browns, Dolphins second game, San Fran, and today). And i'm not talking about pro bowl caliber QB'ing..i'm simply talking about a QB who's capable of moving the chains every once in a while.

Bring in McNabb or Bulger and fire Jauron...this team wins 11 games next year.

    1. We successfully executed a fake punt and those are always fun.
    2. We pissed off Patriots fans by setting them back a game!

My hatred for the Jets runs deeper than my hatred for the Pats unfortunately. =(

At least I can take solace in the fact that the Jets playoff run will be short-lived. And when Brett implodes in their face, they'll be back to square one.

It's kinda sad how, as a Bills fan, I'm relegated to taking pleasure in watching other teams suffer.

  9. If the events that transpired on the field today happened 5 to 10 years ago, I would have been depressed about it until at least Wednesday..........today, however, it just gave me a slight chuckle to watch Ellis rumble into the end zone.....it wasn't even a suprise to me and it bothered me for less than 20 seconds. Its a crying shame what the Bills are doing to its fan base.

LOL..i wish I could feel the same, but living in NYC, and being an avid WFAN listener, this one f'ing hurts. To me, today's game was my personal playoffs. In the end, same old story.

After, 26 years, I'm really considering having an affair with another team.

  10. Let me start by saying Dick Jauron should not be an NFL coach. Now let's have a little moderation -- he's not terrible. The play call was suspect, but only mildly. I like that, as a team, we pulled our sack out and played (and coached) with a little bit of swagger. The execution was poor, but the play-call wasn't awful. In my opinion we should have kept it on the ground, but with the 2-minute-warning looming, I can see the though process. Be that as it may, the result of the game isn't all I was looking for.

This team showed up for Dick. Now there is no question the team likes their leader, but I think he is in over his head.

    Some observations...

Marshawn Lynch is an elite running back, and Fast Freddy is an elite change of pace. That facet of the team is absolutely and decidedly strong. The bottom line is if they get blocking (which they did today) they will torch defenses. TORCH.

Lock up Jason Peters, please. He may have had lapses this season, but the guy is an elite athlete and will be a force at tackle for however long he decides to play.

Steve Johnson was an absolute steal. I've said it before, but I have no idea how he fell so far in the draft. At Kentucky, the guy had a knack for the timely catch. He caught multiple game-winners and is the physical, big receiver we've been waiting for. If James Hardy is ever able to put it together, the two of them can completely change the look of our receiving core.

Puzz is, and has been, over-rated. He doesn't shed blocks and is too often lost in the shuffle. He could be a very good OLB, but we need to be in the market for a real, NFL, MLB. Ray Malaluga???

Our QB situation is terrible. JP is lost, and Trent is a skirt-wearing girl. We can not be afraid to try and find a franchise QB in the draft. You need look no farther than this years Rookie class to see that when you find the right QB it can work early. Trent should come into next season as the incumbent, but he needs to be pushed by a rookie, and/or a veteran QB.

Leodis is the most dangerous KO returner in the league. I don't care what anyone says, to me, that is a fact. He could end up an elite cover corner as well. Great pick. He is a game changer.

The pieces are here people. We need some tweaking and direction, but the pices are here.

LOL..the pieces are here indeed...pieces of utter monkey sh*t.

How anyone can remain positive after this dismally atrocious display of football is beyond me. God bless you.

  11. to me, all you have to do is look at that reverse that we ran with Johnson. We have roscoe, and Evans, but we run a reverse with Johnson--who is half as fast as those two.

Great call, wrong personnel. This coaching staff can't take two steps without falling flat on their faces.

  12. yeah, our coaching staff might have some bright guys, but there is a big difference about being smart with x's and o's on a chalkboard during weekly prep meetings, which they usually do a very good job of, and actually knowing when to use plays and when they will have a good chance of succeeding against a team. That is where our coaching staff fails miserably. They call plays with no specific rhyme or reason seemingly. They don't have anything they are trying to attack on a defense. They just call a play here, a play there, if it works then great, if not then just call another play. No plan of action, just call whatever on a whim...

the fact that they would call that type of play to our fullback shows they are clueless. It would be different if we had Larry Centers or Moose Johnston, but we don't. Our FB is a lead blocker with poor receiving skills. Why not call that TE drag off the play action that has already worked like 5 times this year with the TE being wide open every time? Its a 5 yard throw off a rollout, and at least he would have gotten off the line...

Why not throw a playaction screen to the backside? A playaction swing to Lynch or Jackson? A naked bootleg for Losman to take off for a first down? Do they forget Losman is a pretty good scrambler that can likely outrun any D-lineman in pursuit? I just don't understand what they are thinking when they are calling these plays. It seems like these kind of bonehead decisions only happen on our team, and they happen repeatedly each year. Why would they put their backup QB in a position where he is forced to sense a backside blitz, knowing that he repeatedly gets sacked and fumbles on such plays in the past, including once during this week's game? Losman has perhaps the worst sense of an oncoming blitzer of any QB in the NFL right now. He just doesn't ever sense it, which is why he fumbles so many times.

All of these things make no sense. Yet to our coaching staff, they make perfect sense. There is a difference between x's and o's smarts and gameday smarts, the feeling of when to call certain plays and when to not call them....they repeatedly make the wrong decisions in these areas and have cost us a lot of games over the past few years because of it...

    Amen

  13. I completley understand the unhappiness with Jauron as the head coach, but, for what it is worth, I am impressed with his taking full responsibility for the play call (and not throwing JP under the bus). It makes sense why the players like playing for him (other than maybe today), particularly compared to guys like Williams and Mularkey.

I am sure the players are very frustrated with the play that was called, but playing JP is a huge disadvantage for this team. Maybe my biggest criticism of Jauron for the play that was called is thinking that JP was even capable of making a play. He certainly did not show that ability during this game or in any game in the past. For a qb with this number of overall starts in the NFL, he could be the worst qb I have ever seen.

I don't give a sh*t if Jauron is designated a Saint by the pope. His time here has shown that he has no business being an NFL head coach. He can continue being a stand up guy from his couch at home. This is nothing personal, just reality.

JP is a huge disadvantage to this team, but even more so is Jauron and Co. JP isn't the starter, he's the backup...Why put the game on his shoulders by running a bootleg? Answer the question. Why?

Had we run a bootleg all game? We've probably run 5 bootlegs all year. But we call a bootleg with 2:06 left, on the road, up by 3, after lynch had just gotten a nice gain on a run and had 120+ yards rushing in the game.

The purpose of coaching is to place your players in the best position to win and excel. A bootleg would have done no such thing there. The coaches failed.

  14. So I read that, not only did Jauron call the pass play himself, but the play was designed to be a roll-out pass to the fullback. I'll repeat that just to let it sink in: the fullback. The freaking fullback. I don't even remember who the freaking fullback is on this team. How many times does he touch the ball? I remember him getting one touch earlier in the game, and it was another waste of an offensive play call.

    This is just insanely ridiculous.

We don't have a lot of offensive stars on this team, but when you consider who we do have -- Lynch, Jackson, Reed, Evans -- and at a time when Lynch is smacking everyone on that Jets defense in the mouth, play after play...this call is just beyond comprehensible. Why does this staff insist on taking the ball away from its only playmakers at critical times instead of giving it to them? Can you imagine other teams doing this? It's totally, completely, insane, and I can't freaking take it anymore.

This one ranks right up there with some of the most deranged, asinine playcalls that I have ever seen this team make. In fact, I think it might even surpass the Bledsoe bootleg from a few years back -- and to me, that's saying a lot.

I'm just so freaking sick of this crap. Really, is it that hard, or does this team just make it look that way?

Great post Rubes. I agree completely.

In all my years of watching football, I don't think I've seen such a horrible play called (considering the situation). I was really numb. I felt as if everything was just moving in slow motion.

This coaching staff drives me to the point of lunacy. Are we F@$@#ING CONSERVATIVE, OR AGGRESSIVE? We've been playing for the past 3 years w/ our F@#$@#ing tails between our legs, and the one god dam freaking time that we need to be conservative we run a freaking bootleg!!.. for christs sake, did we even run a bootleg ALL GAME? I can probably count all the bootlegs we've run all season on one hand.

It's not only that we ran a bootleg, but it's that we called a play which required putting the game into JP's hands and later into the hands of a FB who has probably caught 1 pass this season. That's what really gets me. JP is our backup, we're up by 3 with 2 minutes left, so why would the coaching staff fell the need to force the issue, and put the game on JP's hands when all we have to do at that point is take time off the clock. If the colts did this with Manning or the pats with Brady, I would still consider it a pretty ballsy call. But that the Bills coaching staff ran this play with our backup in there, on the road, when he hadn't been playing a stellar game to that point anyway..well, jesus freaking christ. All of a sudden, Jauron got a bolt of testosterone with 2:06.

    I simply don't get it.

  15. 1) Should we have drafted Hardy in the 7th and Johnson in the 2nd? Just asking.

    2) The announcers were full of schitt wrt the pick by JP to open the 4th quarter. Sure it hit Reed in the hands, but he threw a Nolan Ryan fastball from a very short distance. He will never have any touch on his passes.

    3) As for the OL, is it me or is Butler looking more suited to play RT than LG these days? In all, their day is to be considered productive. JP had a month to throw, and the holes were large on both sides (not the middle, but we already knew that).

    4) Could it be possible that Denny is actually told to bite inside on these running plays? He goes the wrong way every freaking time. It is starting to look like the design. He doesn't appear to be a stupid person. I have no idea wtf is going on with this s%^t, does anybody have a clue?

    5) Duke Preston finally found a guy he can block (the ref), although he hit him in the back. If they were facing eachother, I'm less sure.

    6) Did we pick up any spots in the draft?

    7) Marshawn Lynch is f  ing up. He has dropped pass after easy f  ing pass. With a real coach, he would drop less passes. He would be afraid to. Sounds insane? I stand by this statement.

    8) Good effort by JP in the 4th quarter, until being JP and sucking caught up with him. But, this time I will actually join the excuse makers. JP rolling right with 2:06 left in the game? Are you freaking kidding me?!?!?!?! When JP rolls right he is either picked, sacked, fumbles, or any combination thereof. Besides, the jests were done. Their DL was sucking wind. How about a run, or am I f  ing crazy? Jauron should be fired tonight. Period.

    9) The 1st Quarter was fully symbolic of the Dick Levy Era. No pass rush, no defense, and poor Donte Whitner getting destroyed. Only the Bills could select a good player AND waste a pick at the same time.

    10) One last thing......I hate the talk of boycotts, etc. If I was up there, I would be at RWS. As bad as they are, as bad as I and others piss and moan, we need them in some strange way. They were with us through the best and worst times we have experienced in life. They are flawed. They even suck a$$, but they are ours. I am already trying to study the 09 draft, and will enter that day hoping that Dick Levy doesn't draft 3 or 4 more defensive backs with our best picks. I am still a proud fan. The team sucks, but we are great. In other words.......

    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone noticed that when we actually started throwing some slant plays we were able to move the ball? I think that quick slant in the endzone to Johnson was the first time that play has been called down there all year. To me, that's completely unacceptable on the part of the coaches.

Lynch was a beast today, and the O-line held their own.

As for JP, what can I say. Do we really expect anything else from him? He's a backup on this team, and a 3rd stringer possibly on others. To me, it's simple. As a coaching staff, one of your primary (if not the only) functions is to put your players in the best position to possibly succeed. With 2:06 seconds left, up by 3 in the 4th, marshawn just got a run up the middle for yards, jets just called a TO and had 2 left, and you call a bootleg? A BOOTLEG? A F%@#ING BOOTLEG?

I really, really don't understand this coaching staff. To me, it seems like they always do X when they should do Y and vice/versa. It's f@#$ing disgusting.

If buffalo needs to be aggressive, they're conservative. When it's time to be conservative, they're aggressive. When it's time to run, we pass. When we should pass, we run. If a play is questionable, they don't challenge. If a play is clear, then they challenge.

This coaching staff, from top to bottom (with the exception of April), has to be possibly the worst stack of monkey crap compost in the NFL.

    Impale them all.

  16. If Trent Edwards had played we probably win. Yea I know. Hypothetical. Hindsight is 20:20. But it is my strong opinion that if Trent Edwards played today we would have won. Whether you liked the call or not, when FB McIntyre, for whom the pass was intended, got blocked at the line of scrimmage JP should have thrown the ball away. But JP being JP had no pocket presence, waited way to long, scrambled, and coughed up the ball. That play falls solely on his pathetic shoulders. He's got to know to get rid of the ball. No doubt Trent would have thrown it away. And what does JP do on our next possession? That's right , throws a pick. I will venture to say that if Trent had played the last three games there is a good chance we would have won all three. The quarterbacking was that bad folks. And that's why I feel Jauron should be given one more year with a average QB in Edwards instead of horrific CFL reserve JP Losman before we run him out of town. I never ever want to see JP play in a game for the Bills again. He makes me want to puke.:sick::lol:

You know how I know you're a m0ron? Very simple. Edwards has only missed two the last two starts, but ya, had he not missed the last three games then I'm sure HE - being the savior that he is - would've won them all.

  17. Yeah baby! Let's play spoilers...if we can't make the playoffs, I want to make sure the Jets and Patriots don't either. Unfortunately, somebody has to win the division.

At this point, I think I would rather see the Patriots make the playoffs over the Jets. Your thoughts? Best case scenario, I would just rather have Miami win the division and have both the Jets and Patsies miss the wild card. Let Miami have their day in the sun I guess... =(

  18. I said posts of support and no negative stuff...that post you just made doesnt show any support and is negative...

I bet this thread will have few posts which is baffling that some many so called "fans" find it so hard to support the team they are supossedly a fan of...

KNOCK THOSE JETS OUT THE PLAYOFFS BABY! DAM I HATE THE JETS!

lol. Sorry. I did say that I really hope we beat the jets this week though.

  19. Im so sick of every post on here bashing Ralph, JP, etc...this is supposed to be the team you root for, but you dont even stand behind and support the players going out on that field trying to play their azz off for a win! Thats worse than Raider fans...I swear.

So, this post is to show support for JP and co. today to beat the Jets azz, I hate the Jets, especially the Jets fans at the bar I am watching the game at.

So, chime in here with ONLY comments of SUPPORT and encouragement for OUR TEAM for once, and hold the whining until the games over! Lets get some positive momentum going for our team today!

GO JP AND GO BILLS! BEAT THAT JET AZZ!

I really do hope we win this week. I live in NYC, and NOTHING would make me happier than watching the Bills possibly help eliminate the Jets and Brett from the playoffs. After this week, I truly don't give a crap about the season.
