  1. Dansby isn't really under the "radar", so much as he plays in Arizona and not a lot of fans watch the cards. I'm pretty sure Dansby will get a hell of a lot of money amd he's earned it. Considering what the jets paid Calvin Pace last year. Dansby's and Suggs contract are gonna make it look like a bargain.

I agree with your thoughts. We expect Dansby to be our highest purchase this off-season. However, with the departure of Crowell (he will not be resigned), Dansby will be a very big addition to our linebacking corps. We are well within our cap to afford him - and he's still relatively young.

  2. Ok, lets play a game... as is likely, no one wants to trade for your pick. Now what do you do?

    Very good question.

We think trading down is our best scenario in this draft. However, if we are unable to do so, we are looking very closely at Everett Brown - Florida State - DE or Taylor Mays - USC - FS/SS or James Laurinities - Ohio State - LB. We're high on all of these.

Another player that's on the rise on our draft board is BJ Raji - Boston College -DT

I'm excited at the prospect of landing any of these. But again, we would prefer to trade down as of now.

  3. Mike Brown...

Ok.. lets get an old washed up safety who cant stay healthy.

    bad move

You are more entitled to your opinion. In fact, your opinions are deeply valued now that I'm heading the program here at Orchard Park.

However, I disagree. Brown is an instant upgrade (when healthy), over anyone we currently have at FS. His experience at the position, and while playing for one of the best defenses in the league over the last few years will have a positive impact on KO and the rest of the secondary.

We feel KO may be in need of a mentor. KO will still see some playing time this season. :w00t:

  4. one free agent lineman--not enough.....LINE LINE LINE--and your free agent is another D tackle--we need DEs.If you draft late 1st round DE likely he will not be of great impact.

I disagree. With Kelsay, Denney, Schobel, Greg Hardy, Chris Ellis..& co. we're fine at depth. Schobel will start, and the rookie Greg Hardy will be broken in slowly throughout the season in a rotation with Denney/Kelsay.

We still think that Denney/Kelsay can contribute, just not as everydown starters.

Hardy will be a pro bowler for years to come. :w00t:

  5. I agree that would be a bad move, unless you have a contingency plan when he gets hurt.

KO. This team hasn't given up on KO. We don't think he came back from his injury at 100% this season. After a solid rookie year, we expect him to contribute greatly this upcoming year.

However, Brown will add much needed EXPERIENCED depth at the safety position. He's familiar with our defense, and he'll be relatively cheap. :w00t:

  6. You don't think Kerry Collins, who led his team to the #1 seed in the conference, would be hard to get to come to Buffalo as a back-up?

Since I'm the one calling the shots now, he would have just as good of an opportunity to start here in Buffalo, then he would in Tennessee next year. i'm not placing all of my eggs in the fragile Trent basket.

If anything, Trent may be served well to sit for next season, and watch a veteran QB with playoff and super bowl experience run an offense.

  7. Alright folks, here goes!

    FA:

Karlos Dansby - Arizona - LB

Kerry Collins - Titans - QB

Mike Brown - Chicago - FS

    John Thornton- Bengals- DT

Re-sign Greer - an absolute must in my opinion.

None of these FA's are really stars, and I think they would all be within the Bills' budget. I'll try my hardest to get them in here folks.

I will look to find a team seeking to trade up and get my pick at 11, because my star (orakpo) will be gone by then. I'll trade down somewhere to around the 22-26th pick. We get an extra 2nd pick, and fill some much needed positions as follows:

1st round: Greg Hardy - Ole Miss - DE*

2nd round (ours): Chase Coffman - Missouri - TE

2nd round (trade): Kenny Britt - Rutgers - WR

    3rd round: Antoine Caldwell - The Tide - C

4th round: Zack Follett - Cal - OLB

    5th round: Ray Feinga - BYU - G

    6th round: Travis McCall - Roll Tide - FB/TE

7th round: Jordan Norwood - Penn State - WR

Just send this post to Buffalo hierarchy, and I'll accept the position. I'll need to give 2 weeks notice, however. Hopefully Dick and Ralph understand.

Shall it be written, so shall it be done!

    :w00t:

*If he doesn't declare, I'll draft Michael Johnson - Georgia Tech - DE.

  8. good selection :worthy:

I think we all agree we need another receiver on this team. Ideally, I would like a solid pass-catching TE on this roster. However, if we're not going to go the TE route, I would be willing to spend a 2nd or 3rd round pick on a WR if possible.

Could anyone imagine what would happen to this offense if Evans went down with an injury? AS bad as our offense was this year, it's scary to think of that possibility.

What do you guys think of Kenny Britt? If this guy played for USC or tOSU, he'd be going in the top 10, easy.

He declared this year after his junior year. It's hard to say what round he'll go in. Possibly the 2nd round..but who knows in these drafts. His 40 time isn't superb, so that may drop him a bit.

    6'4, 215

    2006: 29rec 440yds 2td

    2007: 62rec 1232yds 8td

    2008: 87rec 1371yds 7td

Big East's all-time leading receiver. And the nation's second-leading receiver this year in yards per game.

I do realize we have other needs on this team, but depending on what we do in FA, WR will have to be addressed at some point as well.

    Thoughts?

  9. I can't stand this cover-two defence. Atleast when Phillips and Williams coached the Bills the Defence was fun to watch. Now the crappy defence matches the crappy offense. I liked the 3-4 loved the 46, both of which this team would benefit moving to. If we went to a 3-4 Stroud could stay in the middle and Williams and Johnson could probably kick out to end, Denney seems to b a better fit for the 3-4 and we could dump Schobel and Kelsay. Even Mitchell and Poz would look better in a 3-4 moving Poz outside and making Mitchell an inside backer. Anything but this dreadful cover two. Even teams that have good talent and run it are not being successful with it anymore, Colts defence sucks this year, and the Bears defence was average at best. I am sure we will be the last team in the league to switch away from it realizing once again later then everyone else it is no longer effective.

Stroud wouldn't really work in the 3-4, Denney would be horrible in ANY scheme as the starter.

I would prefer the 3-4, but you need to realize that the roster is not in place for a 3-4. If we were to switch, you're looking at a couple of years of player overhaul to set up a solid defense.

I'm willing to stay with the defense we run now. why ours is ineffective at times is soley due to the lack of pass rush. (IMO)

  10. I dont get the whole Jason Peters trade posts.

I understand Jason had a less than spectacular year this year. He held out for more money. But by almost all of the Buffalo News staff, respected people in the NFL, and opponents Jason Peters is the most talented player on the Bills. And he plays the LT position.

Everytime I read the trade Jason Peters posts I remember a few years ago with the board pinning for Walter Jones... Pay him any amount of money... trade 2 first round picks... Well we have a guy younger than Walter Jones who right now is considered one of the premier LT's in the game. Where have the Orlando Pace loving Walter Jones loving posters all gone? Jason Peters struggled last season. It is bound to happen when you miss camp. Get him signed to a long term deal that pays him what he is worth and lets move on. I have news for all those that want Peters gone. He is not the problem on this team. He is actually part of the solution. So lets focus on where our real problems lie... We have plenty of other players you can all run out of town before we get to Jason Peters......

I agree completly Indy, while Peters had a subpar year, I think we all know that missing training camp/preaseason affected his play. He's one of the better players we have on this team.

You don't just go out and replace a LT that easily. I think some people forget how it was before Peters took over at LT.

  11. If Sam Bradford declares I'd pull the trigger in the first round

as many needs as we may have, i'm thinking the same thing.

However, you KNOW it's not going to happen. this staff is love-struck with Edwards. He's cheap, he's young, and he's a clean-cut.

I'm not ready to really abandon Edwards either, but I would draft Bradford regardless, and if Edwards fails after next season..Bradford starts the 2010 season.

  12. Solid WRs what have you been looking at to determine we have SOLID WRS The only reciver that puts his heat and soul into catching a ball is Josh Reed the only Balls Lee can catch is when he has a two yard advantage in stride over his coverage. Smith looks promising, Hardy looked like a joke parrish isnt worth the money so out of 54 receivers two are capable of catching the balls possibly a third but we need another possesion receiver.

what have I been looking at? Evans and Reed. Wouldn't you consider them "solid"? I didn't say pro bowlers. I said SOLID. What would you consider them?

Sure, we could use a true number 1 WR, but give me solid QB play and these WR's would look 10x's better.

Hardy did look like a joke.

  13. I'd put the first New England game as much on the defense as I would the offense. They just couldn't get off the field.

It's easy to make a claim that even the best defense in the league would have lost games where we only scored X number of points...but great defenses have a way of putting their offense in position to score. The Bills D didn't do it in any of those 4 games you mentioned. They forced one turnover in the four games combined. A second turnover came from Frank Gore basically fumbling the ball without being touched by a Bill.

There's no doubt that the offense sucked in those 4 games. But the defense didn't do anything to change field position, and in 3 of the 4 games let the opponent march down the field for an early touchdown that put the Bills in a hole right off the bat.

listen, if you're going to sit there and start bitching about the defense not creating more turnovers then fine. But for anyone who watched the entire season, it's freaking clear that this defense and special teams carried the bills the entire season. The Chiefs game was the only game that you could clearly say, "our offense won that game," and I could give you 6 games at least where you could say "our offense lost us that game".

Whereas with the defense, there's only really one game where you could say, "our defense lost us that game," and I can name you several where our defense made a key turnover or held the opposing team down long enough for us to win.

Fact of the matter is, this defense could've had many more turnovers, but it wouldn't have mattered, b/c we would've simply scored a field goal even if we started on their 20yd line.

And you're wrong, the offense didn't suck those games because there would have to be some kind of offense in the first place for it to suck..which there wasn't.

How many turnovers did the offense have this season that put the defense in a vulnerable position? How many 3 and outs did we have? How many times did the offense kill the team's momentum by failing to score 6 and settling for 3? That was the theme this entire season, and not the defense failing to get turnovers.

Go back and look at the boxscores of the games we played, and tell me how many games our defense lost for us on its own, and how many the offense won on its own. It's not even close.

  14. I truly believe that the Bills should take a look at both sides of the ball and determine which one is better off. It seems to me that the Defense is closer to being dominant than the offense. Keep the free agency and draft focused on the D and GET AN IDENTITY!

If I was making the moves, I would get a DE in free agency AND either draft a DE or LB in first round. The offense actually is good enough to win games IF we can become a top 5-10 Defense. Figure out how to get a center in Round 2 and fill the lines with the remaining rounds.

Our secondary will take enormous steps if they keep building up the D!

While I do agree this team needs an identity, the statement above about the offense is false. The steelers defense would've lost the games against the 49ers, Miami, and both New England games. We scored a combined 16 points in those 4 games (4pts per game).

Nevertheless, I do agree that defense is closer to being dominant than the Offense. The single x-factor to this all is Trent Edwards.

Technically, if one goes position by position, we're only 1-2 players away from being a good offense.

    1. We have the RB's

    2. We have solid WR's

    3. We have a solid (not great/not horrible) Oline.

We're essentially a true #1 WR (or good TE) and an Olineman away from being a very good offense...that is, if Edwards ever progresses to the point of being above average.

On defense, we're probably 2 players away from being a very good defense (a pure pass-rushing DE, and a stud LB or Safety).

  15. I drafted him on Madden, he's been playing pretty well.

I also drafted Eric Moncur at DE and he won Rookie of the Year with 12 sacks!! Dare to Dream....

Hey, quick question. I've been out of the Madden loop for 2 years. Maybe I misunderstood, but one can draft reall college players now on the game?

  16. Good post.

I think we should give Trent one more year. However, i would like to bring in a veteran starter if possible to be the #2 because Trent as we all know seems to be injury prone.

Ideally, like you mention, I would want McNabb. But I really don't see us trading for him and I'm sure his salary is above Buffalo's standards. We would probably be able to get him for two 3rd rounders, I'd assume..or maybe a 2nd and a third.

  17. If the front office is set on keeping our current group of DE's and a TE or center isnt rated high enough to draft in the 11 spot, I find Taylor Mays the 6-3 230lb safety from USC whos supposed to run a sub 4.4 40 a very tempting choice. They say you have to be strong in the middle and this guy certainly brings the wood every time he hits. As a Bills fan down here in Steeler country I certainly know what Polamalu brings. Thoughts?

I just finished posting this on another thread.

While ideally I wouldn't mind drafting a safety, what's the point in doing so under this defensive scheme? We run a defense that doesn't require natural, raw ability and skills. All we need are bodies to roam around in our soft prevent defense.

Mays would be a wasted pick, b/c we would waste his natural talents in our defense.

  18. I'd freak, but in a good way. DB is not a popular choice round here but I'd love him. Big time player who can play FS and be paired with Whitner, making each other better. What's not to like. That said DE is undoubtedly the bigger need.

I'd be up for drafting a DB, but what's the point of drafting DB's high in this defensive scheme? The way we run defense in buffalo doesn't require any playmaking ability whatsoever; simply stand 15yds behind the LOS and wait for the play to come to you. That kind of player can be found off of the practice squad. It is really quite pathetic.

The fact of the matter is that you could draft Ed Reed II or Champ Bailey II, and they would look very average on our defense. So what's the point?

  19. Jauron being retained is really not a big surprise unfortunately. From what I have read, it sounds like Ralph's plan was to retain Jauron, but require a major shake-up in his coaching staff. The feeling was that Jauron would resist making these required moves and possibly quit.

I am purely speculating here (because I do not have the inside sources like Scooby), but I see Schonert and many of his O-assistants gone tomorrow. They may even release Fewell but I doubt it. If the release of Schonert or other offensive assistants did not happen, I would be very surprised.

Again, purely speculation but from past history, this seems to be how Ralph operates, especially in light of the fact that Jauron appeared to have renewed his coaching contract earlier in the season and if Wilson fires him at this point, he is on the hook to pay the guy.

The espn article states that Ralph will keep the entire coaching staff

  20. "Though citing the dissatisfaction of the team's fans over a third consecutive 7-9 season, Wilson elected to retain Jauron and the entire coaching staff, believing the team is "better served by continuity in the coaching staff rather than a disruptive overhaul."

    HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

WHAT A CIRCUS....i'm never attending another Bills game until Ralph dies.
