and then you line up Levitre, Hangartner, Wood and Butler/Meredith/Scott/Bell at RT and they manage to stay healthy, do the Bills even have a bad O line? I'm so sick of hearing about our line issues in the media (John Clayton lost a lot of credibility in my eyes last week) as if we have to revamp our entire line and start from scratch. Did they perform well this year? Of course not, but Fred Jackson averaged over 4 yards a carry and I hate to burst your bubble folks, but he is not Ladanian Tomlinson circa 2005. Not to mention the pass protection was bad, but I have seen worse (see: Rob Johnson era). Wood and Levitre in their second year, assuming Wood is back to 100%, should only improve. Bottom line, we have way bigger issues than OL- again, assuming we can figure out what's going on at LT.

What did everyone take out of the New Conference
metzelaars_lives replied to billsfreak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What did I take out of the press conference? I'm all about the Nix/Gailey era. My brother claims that Russ Brandon is still the Wizard pulling strings from behind the curtain and that Nix is just a figurehead with no real power, kind of like the queen in England. Yet naively, I'm buying into it all once again and yes, I was very impressed with both of them. Man, Jerry Sullivan is coming off like a whiny little b**** these days, huh? -
Could it be? A classic country fan on TBD? I've already encountered another Teen Wolf fan today...

Bobby Finstock is the only one in the gym that is not shocked when his starting point guard transforms into a werewolf. He just kind of looks at TW sketptically and quickly decides that if this guy's going to make us a better basketball team, then I'm all for it. "It's not how you play the game, it's whether you win or lose. And even that's not all that important." -B. Finstock If you read Bill Simmons, he makes TW references all the time.

Starters in 2010
metzelaars_lives replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude, Drayton Florence is not going to start over either of the Mc's. He proved to be a great backup and nickel CB. But McKelvin was drafted 11TH OVERALL and when he has played, he has made big plays and his coverage was vastly improving toward the end of last year. I don't know what else to tell ya. -
Starters in 2010
metzelaars_lives replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. Schouman looked fantastic the first two games. Everybody seems to forget this for some reason. 2. You don't use a #11 pick on a guy who, in his limited playing time has looked like a big-time playmaker, to make him a nickel CB 3. 3-4, 4-3 it doesn't matter- there is no way Keith Ellison lines up as a starter next season. I would love to see Maybin as an OLB in the 3-4 though. He showed a little something in that KC game, he's just gotta learn not to celebrate like Patrick Kaleta (whose celebrating I love by the way- he's earned it by becoming the best new Sean Avery in the NHL) -
Cancel your season tickets. Send letters.

I'm a Buffalo transplant myself and I wouldn't dare tell someone what to do with their money. If anything I would tell everyone to buy season tickets as a means of supporting the franchise and helping improve the chance that they'll stay in town. Go Away. -

...but I do still think they should've hired Richard Simmons.

I'm with you 100%. All my friends accuse me of being an optimist and a Bills apologist. If being an optimist is wrong then I don't want to be right.

Rome has the whole inside joke/secret language thing going with his hardcore listeners, which is kind of weird and stupid. However, he is the best interviewer in the business. Period. Not to mention, he gets an incredible selection of guests everyday. Not sure why you think he's incompetent, if he was, he wouldn't still be on the air 20 years later. Now Colin Cowherd, that guy is flat out awful.

Top 10 Greatest Football movies
metzelaars_lives replied to Rush23's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are very few really good football films, whereas with baseball you got Bad News Bears, Major League, The Natural, Field of Dreams, The Sandlot, League of Their Own, Bull Durham, etc. The only football movie that I've ever seen that really stirs up any real emotion in me is Rudy. I guess The Express does too, but that's certainly not a great film by any stretch. Varsity Blues? Cheese. I hear people referencing the Replacements on here- literally one of the worst movies I've ever seen. That being said, how in God's name has nobody mentioned Little Giants? -
Herm Edwards
metzelaars_lives replied to South Jersey Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually yeah, I used to play for the Jets when he was the coach and he was very poor when it came to schemes, always ill-equipped when dealing with game preparation, at halftime, he never had us adjust when we were losing particular battles and he was a lousy motivator. Never got us riled up with pep talks at all. That's how people talk on here. Like this guy knows if Herm Edwards is a good coach. Like if Herm Edwards came back and was handed the reins in Dallas or something, the Cowboys would suck the next year. -
I'm not arguing with you. If you go back, the original poster said something to the effect of, "Byrd is obviously amazing" and "Wood and Levitre appear to be sufficient." All I said was that I'm not sure Byrd is any more of a success than Wood or Levitre. Levitre (I think) played every down this season. Would you be shocked if Byrd had 2 or 3 int's next year and Levitre became a top notch G? I wouldn't. Could Levitre have been any better this season? Unfortunately, OL's don't get sacks or int's. People get caught up in int's over overall play (see Charles Woodson winning Defensive MVP over Revis). And I didn't watch Byrd every play, but I know I've heard media types calling out his run defense and tackling. And if I was negative about Byrd, why would I be positive about someone like Kawika Mitchell?
-
Wake me up when Byrd goes diving to break up a pass in the end zone or lays out a receiver, dislodging the ball in the process. Come on, I can picture at least 3 of his interceptions and they were are you kidding me throws. Whitner must've been saying, "how come I never get free int's like this?" Right place, right time? Ballhawking? We'll find out next year, won't we? As far as Wood and Levitre- so as the QB was dropping back in the pocket and throwing the ball or Fred Jackson was running, you were watching Wood engaging w/ linemen instead of the ball or did you DVR the games and then watch the linemen individually?
-
I guess we'll find out next year, won't we? I'm not saying he sucks, I'm just saying the 9 int's may have been a little misleading. He's definitely an everydown starter next year, so he'll certainly get the opportunities. If he gets another 8 next year, I'll take it all back. P.S. Didn't Kelso get around 8 picks for several seasons in a row? Top to bottom, he was never considered a great football player. Polamalu- I don't care if he gets 1 pick or 10 picks- he's a great football player. Isn't he? Isn't he?
-
Byrd had probably 7 of his 9 picks gift wrapped and hand delivered to his front door. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but did Levitre not play every snap all season?!? Just because OL is not as glamorous a position as DB... I wouldn't even say that Byrd was a better pick than Wood or Levitre. Are you kidding me, Wood looked like an absolute stud before he got hurt. Let's give them credit where credit is due, they got 3 permanent no-brainer starters in picks 2-4. The rest of the guys? Who knows, I'm sure they'll never get a chance to sniff the field and then they'll just draft another guy next year at the same position around the same round (see Nic Harris).

Wilson and the future of the Bills
metzelaars_lives replied to sllib olaffub's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
olaffub- that's apparently what they're saying in Riker's Mailbox on Hoist. Originally they were supposed to include Buffalo Bill on the album but then they scrapped it and put the nonsensical Riker's on there instead. -
Just curious- where are you from?
-
Thank you. I was in fact, talking about his dumb sig line. But thanks everyone for the street lesson.
-
I get the Jim Rome thing, but I always thought your quote there was pretty dumb. Not to mention, you spell "Belichick" wrong. Is it a reference to a specific incident on the show or is that just the best you could come up with? No offense, I'm sure you're a nice guy.

I'm from Buffalo and had no idea that there was an "internationally renowned" wing festival. Nor was I under the impression that Millard Fillmore being from Buffalo might help sway a potential coach's decision. The bottom line is that Buffalo is a decrepit city (at least in appearance) which is forever shrinking, while a city like Seattle is beautiful and growing all the time. That was a good point with the temperatures, however, there are not ten major cities with more snowfall than Buffalo. Maybe ten towns in Alaska, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Or ten ski villages. I can't imagine there is one major city that gets more average snowfall than Buffalo?
