  1. Good catch on Wilson. My point there is that I like Wilson on the field, he is great at reading routes and has proven to have more ball-hawk in him than expected. Scott is good against the run, but most SS are better at run support than pass coverage so your evaluation is not surprizing. Whitner can and has played both roles. Last years injury made his play weaker than normal - has struggled a bit in coverage when playing FS. Grabbing a smallish ball-hawking CB to play safety I am not so sure is needed here. Some sites had him listed at 6', but others said that he is actually 5'-10". As with all these picks we will see down the road.
  2. True that. Phrases like, "do you want the other pizza were common when I was that age." I wanted to jog and bike, and swim too. Now the wife makes me steamed veggies and asks me when is the last time I used the health club membership - "sigh..."
  3. Hey Reilly is Irish, we had some decent success with that other Irish guy Kelly
  4. I was with you on that sentiment, but with Owens only signed for 1 year, and Hardy being an uncertain target in the redzone, I can see this kid developing into our red-zone threat. Run blocking is one of the easier things to teach, but the receiving skills this kid has you are either born with, or you are not.
  5. I was against taking a TE, but man this kid looks gifted. His hand-eye coordination is fantastic and he catches the ball with his hands NOT his body - that's a problem we have seen in many of our recent tight ends and receivers. Also in the clips that I watched he looked like a natural runner with some RB instincts. Watch how he switches the ball to the hand away from the defenders. Has the potential to be quite the steal. I'm liking it
  6. Well I was wrong about them not taking a tight end, but we could use a big target. I did not think that they were going to go TE in this draft, but perhaps the kid was the best prospect available at this round. He certainly has good size.
  7. Well, with the money they saved by not signing Peters, perhaps they have some more defensive free agents they are targeting post-draft. At least that is my hope.
  8. I have been preaching that TE is not the teams most pressing need. Having a big play-making TE is a luxury on a team that has Owens and Evans on opposite sides of the field. They will rely on Fine and Schouman and that practice squad guy that they let go and picked up again with the unfortunate last name "Stupid" or something like that. To contend at all this team needed to pressure the passer and get more physical on the O-Line and that is what they went after (with the obligatory CB pick sandwiched in there). Fine has good hands and blocks well and can get the short yardage midfield dump passes. Then they picked up a short-yardage running back in Rhodes for those goal line situations. If the line can gel quickly and Edwards can stay healthy - who knows.
  9. Not a fan of this pick. The kid looks like a player, but we have more pressing needs on this team. The SS spot I am fine with Wilson and Bryan. We have plenty of playmakers at CB with McGee, Youboty, McKelvin, Corner, and they signed that dude Fox in the offseason. I don't get the facination with the CB spot other than it is a position that Jauron used to play so we cannot have a draft without one. I would have thought that linebacker was a more pressing need on this team.
  10. The Bills will go O-Line next. I am fine with the Maybin pick. He's a bit on the light side, but has the frame to carry a bit more weight.
  11. Agreed. Sounds like the guy worked his tail off to get a break and the Bills hired him. Started in 2007... let's see 07 draft: Marshawn Lynch Paul Pozlusny Trent Edwards 1st 3 picks not so shabby. Some folks just have to B word about something.
  12. You had to expect the obligatory gnashing of teeth and "the sky is falling" response to the trade. NFL news is slow this offseason, with Buffalo (unbelievably) providing a great deal of the fodder with Owens and Peters. Peters can be dominating, and I think he will do well with the Eagles because he will be trying. The Bills were offering good money, but Peters and his agent were clearly not playing ball. It was not a situation that the Bills could win, and I for one am glad that they are not stuck with an 11 or 12 million dollar yearly salary for someone who jobbed the team last year. I believe that stats show that Jason gave up the most sacks last year, our sweeps behind him and Dockery went no where most of the time, can we really be that horrible with another player in there?
  13. I saw you got slammed and took pity... I think you are thinking of Urbick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wN1rK8D4o8I...feature=related
  14. Peters was good when he was committed and in shape; I don't know what happened to him after he started playing last year but he wasn't the same and was not able to play his way back to a high level. Peters wanted to be the Highest (not on par with, but HIGHEST) paid LT in the league. We may be giving up on a franchise tackle, or we could be dodging a big fat bullet and anchor on the teams salary cap for years to come. There are a lot of teams out there that had a lot more success on offense than we did last year. What Peters was asking for was unreasonable considering his level of play, he refused to compromise and created an impasse. The Bills did what they had to do, he did not give them much of a choice. Of course I am concerned about the blocking on Trent's blind side, but the Peters/Dockery duo gave up a lot of sacks last year I am hoping that with more weapons and another year under his belt, Trent will be able to get rid of the ball a bit quicker. I am also hopeful that Walker can take care of business if he ends up where he started last year. At least the line that will be playing will be the line that is in camp practicing together. R
  15. Hardly hysterics. Just another post to get some folks to say "yeah that sucks", and other folks to say "no it doesn't", and some others to say "you are all hysterical for talking about it". Apparently this thread is working out just the way it should.
  16. Well, apparently it is for The Dean and his boot-Lurker We could say the same thing about most topics right now. God I hate this time of year.
  17. It is just a matter of perspective. Some folks feel that by not signing Jackson early, for what would most likely be a contract of minimal impact on the bottom line, and by bringing in the parade of cast off running backs, that the organization has effectively "screwed" him already Jackson may well get his money as you say, but the feeling of being a last option and a low priority signing may not make a very happy or committed Jackson on the field. Once again, this is just speculation
  18. Chill? Do I really sound like I am fretting over this? I just happen to feel like Jackson is a good player (not great), but a solid backup that the organization should make happy. Lock him up for the pittance he would probably sign for and move on. I am not so pollyanna in my view to get overly worked up over the ugly business side of football operations (although I do not mind stirring the pot)
  19. If OBD is just waiting to see what kind of scraps they have left to use for Jackson, then that sends a message to players. Some like Peters apparently got that message loud and clear and decided that when dealing with the front office it is better to insure that you get yours ($$$) when you can. Apparently, you don't wait to see if they will do the right thing by you and reward honest effort and contribution. Feeling that the organization does not treat it's solid players like they are a valued commodity and posting about such treatment has about as much merit as any other posts we dream up IMO.
  20. I think most posters (yes, I will pretend for a moment that I represent the masses) could care less how the deal gets done, but feel that Jackson should have already been signed to a reasonable contract. Reasonable being an average amount made by solid backup RBs across the league. I am also "assuming" that a reasonable contract has not been offered in private. Maybe someone with more knowlege of the inner-disfunctional workings at OBD can confirm. I don't think it is surprizing or unusual that his agent solicited a response from the court of public opinion (the tenuous link he made regarding character not withstanding). It is even more understandable if he is not getting anywhere at OBD, and it is not like OBD has been secretly bringing in all those retread runningbacks for interviews. Yes, the Bills brass are operating under the allowed rules, but it still feels like they are giving Jackson the finger.
  21. What can I say? I agree. The organization is treating Jackson like crap. They should do the right thing and lock him up for 3-4 years at a salary that is commensurate with what good backup runningbacks make. I do not understand the flirting they are doing with all these also-rans that they have brought in. All Fred has done is play hard for this team.
  22. I agree that he looks good, but if the Bills go offense and Mack is available we should grab him. We have not had a stud center since Hull left us and that kid is the definition of stud who plays with a nasty streak to the whistle. If we had Mack we could move Hangartner to guard where he has played before and where I think he is better suited with his size 6-5, 301. I was also watching the highlights of Urbik I thought he looked horrible, who would put a reel like that out? It was like watching a T-Rex on skates. Looked way too easy to shed those short stubby arms and he seemed to be off balance a lot. Michael Oher at LT though looks really good, if the Peters situation continues to degenerate, LT will become more of a need in this draft than Center where Hangartner can (hopefully) do no worse than Preston.
  23. I am still not sold on TE being the most desparate need on this team, and the crop of TEs coming out of this class only has one complete TE and he isn't worth a 1st round consideration. With the exception of Maybin there are a lot of 2nd round DE talent in the draft. I think the smart move would be to nab Jerry or Raji, then pick up the best DE left at our slot in the 2nd. Another young stud DT next to Stroud will only make our edge rushers that much better.
  24. Its all good. I just hate to see this franchise spin it's wheels again this year when Peters and his agent have already shown them what they will do if they do not get the dollars that they are looking for. That old adage comes to mind - fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. BTW - I love the avatar. That's a movie my son and I have gotten a kick out of watching together. "Shop smart, shop S-Mart".
  25. I don't think the Lynch suspension will have as much bearing how they approach the draft as the Peters situation. I do think that they will get something worked out with Jackson. Just a feeling nothing more. I still think that OBD drafts DE or DT (only if Raji for some reason falls to us - ok I am dreaming). Either way the defensive line talent according to most draftnics is pretty thin with a decent drop off after a questionable 1st round. However, I have also read that most talent scouts feel that this year's crop of Offensive line talent is really deep. I could see us nabbing a tackle and a center to shore up a line that in all likelihood may either be without Peters in the beginning of the year or down the road. My hopes are that the Bills can trade Peters and the nagging distractions that come with him and his agent for a 1st and a 3rd and at least be assured of grabbing some 1st round talent without having to break the bank on a single player.
