Like that headline about how "Bills announce Williams is actually interested in Buffalo" or some such. Worse, it wasn't even true. When Clayton wrote that, Williams was being chauffeured around the suburbs looking at neighborhoods to live in.

I don't think he was using our offer per se for leverage. He was decidedly second-tier among the FA WRs out there. His agent thought it would be smart to have him on a plane somewhere, anywhere, as soon as FA started so that he'd be in the news and whatever team lost a WR first (SD) could be able to say they replaced him with a player who was "in demand." For all we know right now, Buddy was in on the whole thing, and now he can go after who he wants knowing that SD already blew its nut on Meachem. Hey, seriously. For all we know. Also, for all we know, the Chargers faxed their offer to Meachem at 4 pm and when they landed in Buffalo, the agent said "can you beat this?" and Buddy replied "no, but I'll tell you what YOU can beat."

Meachem goes to SD to be their #1. He wasn't going to be that here, and he wouldn't have gotten paid like it either. Now if Meachem took less money from SD than we offered, that would hurt. I highly doubt that's the case. Let's remember this is a 650-yard/yr WR.
