Maybe I'm biased, but I absolutely despise Martin. That play in the WC game where he got hurt last year (PICKING UP HIS HAND WARMER!!!!) before running after the player who recovered the fumble from the blocked punt was one of the worst plays I've seen since the infamous butt fumble. He should have got a lot more criticism for that embarrassing play. He should be run out of town.
It also cost us a lot in the KC game since he wasn't 100%
Martin is clearly not an athlete. But worse than that, I'm not sure he knows how to stretch properly. A punter should be the most well-stretched player on the field. Has he never run a sprint before?
Bean has screwed up the punting situation massively.
Years of Brian Moorman led me to believe that it's not that hard to get a solid athletic Punter. Moorman was small AF but he was also a really great athlete. Did he ever get hurt during his long tenure?
I don't know what Sam Martin is. I'd say he's a bum. Kick his ass to the curb.
It’s hard to understand what you think about Martin from this post. Might you clarify?

I think Beane is following his tried and true strategy which is to try to enter the draft without a glaring need on the roster. I think the Bills take BPA at #28. My Guess is that it is likely to be one of three positions DT, Edge or WR listed in order of most likely pick. If not WR at #28 I do think they will get one in RD #2.

Still think they are going to go BPA at pick 28. I don't see them trading up. They will either get the best WR , DT or S that is still available on the board at that pick. If they do trade up they are going to have to leverage picks from next year. I don't think 4th, 5th, and 6th round picks are even bait to tempt a team to get into the teens this year to move up.
I would agree that the Bills will pick BPA according to their board. However, I can’t imagine they have a S at #28. I think it is more like to be in this order of importance DT, Edge, WR. I would be shocked if the pick is not one of these three positions. Maybe they go S in round #2 only because they do not have a rd #3 pick. Keep in mind the safety “market” looks to be significantly devaluing across the league.

How much cap space do the Bills need for their picks?
The common thought is teams need about $12M in space to take care of draft picks and to have some “room” to sign players for in-season needs (injury replacements).

The Bills CANNOT be over the cap by league rules, so these numbers are simply not correct.
They are the best numbers publicly available.
I agree that the Bills are meeting league requirements somehow. The accounting details are critical and I assume the websites tracking the information probably can’t’ have the exact same information the Bills send to the league.

Good for him
I agree for him but hate it as a Bills fan.

As for the draft I am very gun shy regarding any trade up scenario for a WR. After Sammie Watkins I would prefer to stay put at draft choice.

I hope we find a way to keep him. He still has the afterburners and makes big plays in big games. If we have a complimentary threat he is more or less unstoppable. The chemistry with he and Josh is real and would be hard to duplicate with new faces. I like having a player of his demeanour on the Bills. He's crazy to win
He has not made big plays in the playoffs.

One of the biggest mysteries to last season was Diggs lack of production in the back half of last season. His production must return in 2024 given his presence, role and cap hit.
This is not intended as a bash Diggs thread. Rather, what do you think happened nad how does it play into Buffalo’s draft?

How did our cap situation get so screwed up? How many rookies are they counting on to start because of the cap situation?
I don’t believe the cap situation is “screwed up.” Josh is a big number that the Bills have to work around. The Bills also got “old” in NFL years and they are having to shed that age and expense. Finally, the Bills put big money on Von and got about a halfish season out of him.
The Bills are making moves to get younger. The Chiefs did the same thing.

Kincaid. I think he just scratched the surface this past season. I expect him to be well over 1000 yards this coming season assuming he stays healthy.
This was my first thought.

A restructure of Dawkins and Allen gets us to 13 mill under the cap. Not sure what else we really want to mess with after that.
I think that is all the Bills do as they will need not create any down the road headaches. The only exception may be going after someone like Floyd for pass rush. Maybe they do a tiny splash here. Keep in mind they need to be $15-$18MM under the cap soon for rookies and in season signings (injury replacements).

The high salaries commanded by top QB’s are creating these dynamics. I would guess that the WR market is also due for a downstep given more good ones seem to be emerging from college.

This is one reason why I do not support an 18 week season. It drives the playoffs deep into cold weather situations.

I wonder if Von redid his deal in an attempt to help get Floyd back. It’s a long shot but would love it if Beane can work this out along with a solid EDGE pick in round 1 or round 2.

Yeah but we really mean garden hoe. An old, outdated and rarely useful tool.

Is this the current cap with the Tre White release or without? Since the 10 million from Tre roles off after June 1 seems this would make them cap compliant before doing anything further
Both sites list him as “active” so he is counting towards the cap projections provided. So if nothing else happens they are cap “compliant” post June 1

I thought I would create one thread and do the following:
- Merge the current cap projection threads
- Provide a daily update for 2024 in the first post from sportrac and over the cap as being primary sources
- While not a reliable # yet, update daily, in the first post, the 2025 projections from the same sources
- The remainder of the thread will contain “normal” chatter on the topic.
2024 projections:
Sportrac $7,462,633 Over
Overthecap $9,052,381 Over
2025 projections:
Sportrac $38,898,522 Under
Over the cap $29,041,425 Under

We have TRIED to invest in the pass rush to stop Mahomes. A 2nd on Epenesa, 2nd on Basham, 1st on Rousseau, 1st on Oliver, sizable contracts for Floyd, Ford, Settle and Phillips. We have Von a MASSIVE contract. When can we agree that loading up there has NOT worked to ass KC? That’s 4 straight years that they have advanced further.
I agree that the pass rush is important. NOTHING is more important than giving Josh Allen weapons. If this team is going to win a title it will be BECAUSE of Josh Allen. Give him everything that he needs to try to outgun teams. The fact that the Bills have resisted for this long is maddening. If you have an elite fastball, don’t spend so much time working on your curve. Make you elite fastball faster. Play to YOUR strength and stop reacting to your opponents!! Make them keep up with you and stop trying to keep them close. It hasn’t worked.
To counter your point about “nothing,” look no further than the Chiefs. They did not “outgun” teams in the playoffs. They had strong defense and an ability to move the ball. The Bills D was decimated due to injury. You can’t let it slide into the toilet because of neglect. I have no disagreement that the Bills need to upgrade their WR ranks. However, the team is not devoid of weapons for Josh given Cook’s ascendence, the o-line coming around nicely, an awesome young TE and Shakir developing into a good role or situational player.
The Bills needed arguably five or fewer plays to hit in order to beat the chiefs this past year. This was on both sides of the ball. You can’t make that dynamic worse by developing a mentality that says the only thing that matters is Josh Allen.

Please don’t discuss logic in the face of an emotional knee jerk reaction. After all there is 100% success with WR’s taken in late rd#1.
