the perils of not moving up - a cautionary tale
BuffaloBill replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
The draft is a crapshoot. Beane has generally made good draft decisions. As long as he does not mortgage the future I am good with your concept. Move a few spots maybe but don’t repeat Sammy Watkins fiasco. The are no “sure things” in the draft. -
Oof - the penalty for being good, but not good enough

I still feel burned by the Watkins trade and scenario. WR is too much of a crap shoot to burn future picks. -
It was hard to watch that. The Bills had so many small mental errors. They were so close but the Chefs did the small things better more often.
-
If he was calling out Diggs you know the Bills coaching staff was aware. People here are bawling over the loss of Diggs but he was a non factor in the last seven games of 2023. Additionally he has been a ghost vs. the chefs in the playoffs. I am convinced that the Bills are better off without him it’s time to move on.

Epic, Hypothetical Trade Scenario: Would ya?

I might do it in 2038 if josh is still playing. The Bills more or less pulled this sort of trade of with an old and much less potent OJ. -
The Draft is a Total Crapshoot (Per Science)

This is why I fear trading way up in the 1st round. Have to give up too much for a risky pick. -
He provided memories at both ends of the fame spectrum … outstanding football player at one end and a sad broken human being at the other.

Traditional vs. 'Modern Day' X Receiver
BuffaloBill replied to BabyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I really hope not. Small guys like him just tend to end up injured in the NFL. Obviously everyone is enamored with the speed but I just don’t see him being more than a gadget guy receiver.- 72 replies

New Buscaglia mock has Bills trading up to 7 for Malik Nabers
BuffaloBill replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
D-Line is hardly as set as you would like - Have to look at DE at a minimum. They also need youth on D-line. Von is a shell of himself and getting NFL old. Oliver is good, Epenesa a good rotational player but the rest of the group is a patchwork. -
That picture is very ugly and helps to explain why KC has been able to reload.

Last player to leave in any way that hurt?
BuffaloBill replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
I know, this board really believed he was going to be the second coming of Julio Jones. -
The second round pick the Bills received came to Houston via the Vikings who are likely to be starting a rookie or journeyman QB. There is potential for the pick to be high second round. I am liking this trade better by the minute.

Draft position chart shows the Bills might leapfrog to 15 or 16 but they will not get to top 8 with a 2nd next year.
-
I voted yes, but even with the 2nd next year in the mix they are not getting to top 8.

Interesting thought. I’m not thinking this is 100% true on its face. The idea can be extended to the idea that Beane is done shopping for FA’s. He likely does not see any more crumbs in the cookie jar that he wants to pursue this year. He will hopefully have a good young receiver next year on the roster and money to move in FA with this move. I really think Diggs best days are behind him. This was a good move to save a train wreck.
-
You assume they take a step back - I do not see it that way - Diggs was a non factor in the second half of the season. The Bills have the opportunity to upgrade and move on.
-
Have no idea if numbers are correct but this is among the early info out on cap situation.
-
I like the move. Diggs all but disappeared in the last 8 games and he has not been a factor in the playoffs. The Bills unload his salary cap hit and can empahsize a youth movement. I get the Idea that Brady just was not a Diggs fan. IMO the Bills made a very good move here.

You also have to wonder if CTE is in play. The whole situation seems so sudden and unfortunate. I certainly feel for his family and those who are close to him.
