  1. Who did you want them to take? Stop being so butthurt.

Butthurt? Are you ten? Taking EJ in the 2nd/3rd rd is one thing but taking him almost 20 spots ahead over any other QB is what the Buffalo Bills do....make terrible decisions that make everybody go, "Really"

Who did I want them to take? Jarvis Jones who dominated SEC fronts. I loved Eifert. ND would've lost 5 games without him this year. DeAndre Hopkins will be a perennial Pro Bowler for the Texans.

I'm sure there is more that we could've traded back and got but that's what the Bills do. They make everyone say "WTF?"

  2. Since he was planning to go to the NFL, I would say the biggest game of his career would have been the Senior Bowl. How did he fare under the same circumstances as the other top prospects under the glare of NFL execs and scouts?

So a game where the defense can't blitz and can only run one front is his biggest game? Really?

I would disagree and say the last game of his Senior year against his biggest rival, Florida, in Talley was just a bit bigger. UF came in ranked #4 and If FSU, who only had one loss, wins that game they leap frog everybody and only need a loss by ND to possibly get into the championship game. EJ choked.

EJ's line? 3 ints and a fumble. That's his biggest game of his career and everybody watching has seen this act from EJ in big games before. The talent on FSU is enough to beat anybody in the country but their QB could never put them on his back and win a game by himself (See NCst game).

I'm not rooting for him to fail but I think this pick is another in a long line of gaffs by this joke of a FO headed by king moron Buddy Nix.

FWIW, I loved the Marone pick and defended him. I can't do the same with EJ.

  3. Haha this is great. "I don't like the Bills pick so I'll just make up my own narrative about him." Or maybe it's just hard to type through all the tears...

Yeah, that's it. If you want to gauge your future QB on how well he played against average teams like North Illinois in Bowls or Wake Forest/NcSt then go ahead and be prepared to be surprised when he flops. . But when it came to top ranked teams in big games like the Florida game, he goes for 4 turnovers in THE BIGGEST GAME OF HIS CAREER at home. See last year's UF game or the OU game the same year.

You can read a game log or you can watch the games and understand the context. Good luck with our newest project.

  4. I totally agree about N. Ill, whose schedule was stocked with the UBs of the world last season. Re FSU, they *did* go 12-2, which is pretty damn good. I'm not a believer in the idea that you need a perfect record to demonstrate greatness. I guess my point is that I don't see much difference between that and, say, 13-1. FSU should have faced better competition in their BCS bowl, but Manuel had no control over that. Bear in mind how close they were to 13-1 -- they lost on essentially the last play of the game to a decent NC State on the road, 17-16: http://www.sports-re...lina-state.html .

I think the point that you are missing is that he was unable to put his team over the top. He was essentially a 3 year starter and even played as a Freshman but never could make the next step to greatness. That is my hesitation.

So it's not about his overall record, it's about how many wins he's worth to his team. RG3, Matt Ryan, Kapernick, R Wilson are perfect examples of this. They were flawless in huge games and made their teams better than what they were. They made the players around them better. EJ was never able to elevate his game when the rest of his team was having a bad game.

At best EJ is a major project. If he is ever a good NFL QB it won't be for 3-4 years at best. But if you look at his progression in college there was never a significant uptick.

Lastly Jimbo is the new Jeff Tedford. Ponder and Russell were drafted WAY TOO HIGH and now you can add EJ to that resume. High percentage throws are the staple of his offense. FSU always have amazing skill players who are killer in space and that's what Jimbo believes in. That doesn't work in the NFL.

And for the Cam comparisons (not made by you Dave), save it. That is blasphemous. Cam took a team with a terrible coach and average talent to the championship. Single-handedly beating Bama in Bama. The better comparison is to T Pryor minus the baggage.

  5. You are right about his performances against FL the past two seasons. He did not produce. That said, pointing to other close wins and squeaker losses is simply not a good way to argue. The Noles were 21-6 the last two years. They weren't the best team in the country, so one should expect some losses and close games occasionally, especially in a good conference. Hell, the AZ Cardinals beat the Pats last year. Does that diminish Brady?? Anyway, 21-6 is pretty darn good unless you have ridiculous expectations about going 11-1 every year.

Dave, I always respect what you post but let me clarify a couple of things. Someone mentioned a "big win" against a "#15 team" but failed to mention it was North Illinois. The reference to tight games was about the "#15" team, not FSU.

Where you are wrong is FSU was picked by a lot of smart people to win it all last year. Herbstrei, who is the best talking head in all of CFB had them winning it all. They were a trendy pick because they were loaded and still are. Their defense has 3-4 more first round picks and their offense had 3-5* RBs and a stable full of WRs that would rival NFL teams. Believe me, they had as much talent as anyone last year and that includes Bama.

I'm sorry but EJ isn't a guy who puts a team on his back and wins games. It didn't happen with every opportunity in college and it won't happen here.

  6. You are absolutely high if you are questioning a draft pick who put up Jim Brown #s last year, while only getting Kenny Davis carries per game.

Picks like CJ Spiller is how you win SuperBowls, not just games. Same thing with Dareus, same thing with Gilmore.

Oh, and yeah, it was the rest of the NFL, and the media who panned the Spiller, Gilmore, and even Dareus, to a lesser degree, picks.

I don't think this is bias. I think this is laziness. They are too lazy to bother with actually speaking with Buddy, Marrone, etc, beyond the 5 minute interview.

So, they have no idea what we think or why. If most of them do that...then you have your "consensus"...of idiocy.

What is the Bills record under Buddy? And I'm high? Holy crap Polly, put down the kool aid.

For the record, I never heard a bad word said about Dareus or Gilmore. Why do you keep bringing up the media? They are as bad as you. They make opinions on You Tube vids and they don't actually watch games.

Did you watch the UF or OU games with EJ? Because if you did, I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't be sleeping in an EJ jersey tonight.

  7. Maybe you didn't notice, but I live in Florida, so I'm very aware of not only EJ, but Seminole fans as well.

Everything you just said about Manuel can be said about any QB in this draft class, including the fact that the other QB's who played in the Senior Bowl had the same factors and still were not named MVP.

In fact, since I'm sure you'll retort with how poor this class was and that you didn't want a QB from this draft at all, I can pull dirt on ANY QB from last year's class as well, but really, what's the point? BTW, I hate FSU, terribly. I just don't allow that to blind me with regard to talent.

Except EJ played with about 10 times more talent than any other QB in the draft and played in a horrible ACC. How did he do in the big games? I know because I watched. He was bad. Great QBs win games. EJ has never done that...ever.

He's flopped in every big game that he's played. Sorry but you can't argue that.

  8. Were you around here for the CJ Spiller pick?

Or better, were you on earth, and able to access the interent/watch TV for the CJ Spiller pick?

The Bills were right, and yeah, the rest of the NFL was collectively wrong.

WGR reminded me: McShay is still defending his grade on Maybin, and even came on their air and defended it even after the Jets had him.

Consensus...does not mean...right. There is a wonderful example of this, being played out right now, and it's hilarious, but, I am not allowed to use it here, because it might hurt somebody's feelings. (Really, they will just be angry because it's...true, and it makes them look like the buffoons they are....but whatever)

Never said anything about McShay. Said the rest of the NFL.

How many wins do the Bills have since CJ arrived? So was he the right pick? I thought the NFL was about wins but the Bills seems to think other wise.

No, I'm talking about a guy that flopped against the only two good defenses he saw the last two years. If you're talking about the #15 team being N. Ill then you have to add that they lost to a terrible Iowa team and squeaked out a 1 point win over Army. That team? Ok if it makes you feel better!

How did he play against the Gators the last two years? He was terrible at home against Oklahoma and lost the game by himself!

You can't blitz in the senior bowl and EJ has zero pocket presence bud. Watch a few college games or talk to some FSU fans.

  9. Are you talking about the Senior Bowl MVP and the guy who dominated his Bowl Game against a #15 ranked team? That guy?

No, I'm talking about a guy that came a guy that flopped against the only two good defenses he saw the last two years. If you're talking about the #15 team being N. Ill then you have to add that they lost to a terrible Iowa team and squeaked out a 1 point win over Army. That team? Ok if it makes you feel better!

  10. Just saw a little snippet of a Marrone interview on ESPN this morning, he said "there were a lot of good QBs in this draft, and I think they quarterbak class was underrated by many, we felt, collectively, as an organization, that he was the best fit for the buffalo bills".

Because the Bills are always right and the rest of the NFL are collectively wrong. Whatta joke. The Bills get a QB who doesn't have a signature win in his entire career and routinely flopped against great defenses despite the ridiculous amount of talent around him.

  11. Has anybody actually watched EJ play or talk to a die hard FSU fan that goes to games? Anybody watch the Florida game or the NCst game when EJ flopped in the biggest moments?

EJ is a guy who has it all except the ability to take over a game and win it. At FSU he played with 10 times the talent that Cam played with at Auburn on offense AND defense. But when the game fell on his shoulders to make a play and win a game he couldn't.

I don't care about his arm, size or speed. I care about the big moments and he was the leader of a team that was the biggest disappointment in CFB last year. He is a perfect Bills pick because there is enough there to get people excited but at the end will wind up not panning out.

  12. And yet 4 posts ago you were whining that Buddy Nix told somebody this big secret. Which is it?

Context my man. I was commenting on a thread that laughably said that you'd have to be Nostradomus in order to know that Fitz was going to suck.

If you don't think this phone call facilitated FItz's release than you're just dumb enough to defend Buddy.

  13. But he wasn't letting EVERYONE know, he was letting one other NFL GM know...

Also, we just released Fitz - think other teams know we were having problems with him now?

And you don't think Dominik knows anyone in any other organization that might like to know if we are going to move on Levitre? They are all talking to each other right now, that's how something like this happens in the first place.

I'm sure this phone call facilitated the release.

  14. That is funny. Someone else was complaining that he has no plan. The Buddy Bashers like to have it both ways.

Well, he hand picked Gailey, picked FItz as the QB of the future and went from the 43 to a 34 and back to a 43. In Buddy's manifesto named, "Rebuilding the BIlls", those 3 moves were under Chapter 1 titled 'The Foundation".

    He deserves more than Bashers.

  15. Come on, John, I respect your football knowledge. I also get that you did not like his performance as GM (neither have I) but to pick this thread and this event to beat on him is rather ridiculous. In no way does this illegally tapped phone call further the case against his performance as a GM.

It's not the prank that bother me, it's Buddy's willingness to let everybody know what his plans are. Whether it's FA or the draft, he's telegraphed every punch and this call is no different. Why is he telling anyone what his "difficulties" are with Fitz ans how it's complicating the FA process. You don't think Dominick wouldn't share that with another team in a heartbeat? Do you think Belichick would be caught dead giving any other team in this league an ounce of intel on Welker or any other player on his roster?

I'm sorry but Buddy's tactics are never going to be in the annals of "How to make a deal". Anytime your opponents knows anything about you that they shouldn't, it's an advantage and Buddy has no clue how to shut his mouth.

  16. Seriously, are we just programmed to believe that we should be in rebuilding mode and that it's gonna take a few more years? That's total BS. Buddy's plan was flawed from the beginning when he committed to Gailey and Fitz. Not to mention 3 incredibly mediocre drafts.

How can anyone believe that Buddy's tenure was anything but a failure? So why believe him when he said it takes 3 years to rebuild? His words are hollow and baseless.

If the Bills have a solid draft, which has been nearly impossible the last 10 years, and add some key FA's they can win football games this year. Losing a good guard and a bunch of crap/D level players doesn't mean that we have to rebuild. We can win now, we just need a new architect.

  17. East:

Sam Barrington, MLB, USF. Not a great athlete but a MLB who can fill a gap. Good instincts, high energy.

Brandon McGhee CB, The U. Good size. He's grown leaps and bounds this year. He's a great athlete and a willing run defender. Could really blossom in the NFL.

    West:

Steve Greer, MLB, Virginia. Doesn't look like much and not that great of an athlete but a pure football player. A thumper in the middle who is on on every tackle. Great instincts.

Joseph Fauria, TE, UCLA. Enormous TE who isn't gong to give you much in terms of blocking but is a serious threat in the passing game. Every time UCLA needed to convert a 3rd down through the passing game they went to him. Great red zone target. Would help day one.

Otherwise, pretty unimpressive list unless I missed someone although I like the RBs but we're good in that front.
