Getting a big name coach

Recommended Posts

Everybody who follows the Bills has duly noted that the Bills will not replace Dick with a big name coach because Ebenezer Wilson will not spend the necessary money on a Cowher, Gruden, Shanahan, Schottenheimer.

But here's the thing. Has Ralphie thought about spending less on PLAYERS to find that money?

I for one would be willing to release one of our non- pass rushing def. ends in order to get one of the above coaches.

Is there any question that a great head coach (for 5 million) is much nore important to a team than one 5 million player?

Just do it Ralph. Get 'er done Russ.

Dont we already spend the least amount of money on players in the entire NFL?

Shanahan and Schottenheimer are old crusties who's best days are behind them. Cowher & Gruden have some shelf life and the attitude this team needs. My feeling is that Cowher will land up in Washington.

It's not a question of Money, it's a question of control. That's why we won't get a big name (or good) head coach.

Also, why is everyone on Gruden's wagon? Also, with the adulation on for the down the field attack...wouldn't his horizontal passing game be an anathema to this? Maybe if he gets Monte Kiffin to come as his defensive coordinator or something.

Its not always about money, people don't seem to understand this.

Guys like Cowher and Dungy walked away from the game after they have achieved success in the NFL and now that they are older they want to spend more time with their families so they took nice jobs working in TV. These guys have nothing left to prove, and they don't need the money, so they can sit back and wait for the perfect situation to fall in their laps IF they ever get to the point where they miss tha game and want to come back. Gruden is in a similar situation, he has won a SB and not much left to have to prove, the only difference with him is that he didn't leave the game on his own terms.

Shannahan and Shottenheimer are pretty old and may have seen their best coaching days behind them.

The trend now is looking for the younger up and coming assistants, and teams are having great success with that.

Having a great coach means nothing if you don't have great players on the field. The coaches aren't the ones playing the game. Who was Belicheck before Brady? Dungy before Manning? People have mentioned Fisher as a great coach, butlook at what happened one year after going 13-3 and bringing back almost all the starters from the year before?
