hiya...so the cleveland game is our anniversary, and my wife has never seen a bills game. we want to spend saturday at the falls, but like the fools that we are, we let our passports expire. so now i am looking for the nicest place on the american side. any opinions?

i've heard the casino hotel is nice, but she's pregnant and i've heard that whole building smells like one big ashtray. can anyone confirm or deny that?

Haven't stayed there but TripAdvisor does rank the Seneca Niagara as the best, with the Hampton Inn 2nd. The Hampton I have stayed at, if you don't mind walking, it's nice. I stayed overnight at the Crowne Plaza one time on the way back from Toronto, so I really can't say how it is overall, other than the room was nice.

Stayed at the Casino when I threw my buddy a bachelors party. The casino floor smells like smoke, but its not overwhelming and I noticed nothing in the rooms. Just to be safe, ask for a non-smoking floor. I would say the Casino hotel is probably the nicest on the American side of the Falls. The walk to the Falls isn't bad either, it would be my recommendation for staying on the American side.

The hotel is very nice and only a few year old - the casino is starting to reek a bit, but I don't think that smell has permeated the hotel yet. But you'll run into smokers everywhere - it is, after all, a casino hotel. And, you'll be dealing with all the activities associated with a full-scale gambling casino....

Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel

Unless you're really hell-bent on being in downtown Niagara Falls, NY - and I can't figure out why anyone would be - why not go 10 minutes north to Lewiston and the Barton Hill Hotel & Spa - a relatively new upscale 'boutique' hotel...

Barton Hill Hotel & Spa

You'd still be very close to the casino and it's gambling and dining if that interests you, and the Falls itself is only 10 minutes away. The Maid of the Mist should still be operating, and I believe that's the last weekend you can do the Cave of the Winds, but verify that if you're interested...

Just my opinion, but I think Lewiston and Barton Hill would make for a more romantic anniversary than the casino.

I'd second the Senator, barton hill is way nicer than anything in the falls, and Lewiston is a better place to spend your anniversary. Go see the falls during the day, walk around goat island, then go back to lewiston and go to dinner at Carmelo's.

i actually looked into barton hill on friday, but they're all booked!

i may just roll the dice on the casino (heh heh)even though we're not really the gambling type.

The casino is likely your best bet downtown. The Crowne Plaza isn't horrible, I don't think. The Hampton and the Comfort Inn at The Pointe are both acceptable, too.

Now, you might want to try something like the Red Coach Inn. At one time, this was a nice upscale boutique hotel, but I'm not sure how it is these days. Frommers still gives it a pretty good review:

It's pretty historic, and a very short walk to the Falls, Goat Island, etc.
