BuffOrange Posted August 28, 2009 Author Share Posted August 28, 2009 12 team league start 1 qb,2rb,3wr/te, 1 flex (rb,wr,te),1 d, 1 K #6 pick and in order as I picked them Michael Turner Chris Johnson Phil Rivers Marshawn Lynch Brandon Marshall (5th rd) Braylon Edwards Chris Wells Matt Hasselback Greg Olson Earnest Graham Justin Gage Torry Holt Tenn Defense Jason Elam Jeremy Maclin didn't want Marshall but he was still there in the 5th rnd. I stocked up on RB's at the cost of WR's.... What do you think? Love Turner at 6 and what the hell was Chris Johnson doing there in rd 2?? Same settings, draft spot, and QB's as me. I didn't get so lucky in the 1st two rounds. Some people are low on Chris Johnson because the Titans aren't going to be ahead in the 4th Qtr every game as last yr, but I don't buy that logic. They're just going to be in more tight 17-17 games as opposed to being up 24-10 which was usually Lendale time anyway. Plus he put up points against the likes of Baltimore, Minnesota, and Pittsburgh last year so he doesn't get all his #'s against lousy D's. Not really a big fan of Rivers/Lynch at 3 and 4. Lynch I think has a high floor and a low ceiling, which may be a decent fit given your top 2 RB's. I have no problem with gambling on Marshall there. Him and Edwards are a risky duo though. I'm drafting from the 9 spot in a 12 team PPR league. I'm honestly thinking about going WR with both of my first picks. I would love to land a combo of two guys like C. Johnson, A. Johnson, Moss, or Fitzgerald. Coming back in the third I'd be hoping for Kevin Smith, Ronnie Brown, or Addai. In the fourth I would take best player available regardless of position. Royal I think is a WR3 but probably a good enough #2 in a .5ppr. Maybe I am missing something on Hixon - I'm just avoiding Giants WR's except for Boss or Steve Smith very late. Not sure who you would favor as the flex to start the season...1 more reliable veteran/starter maybe in place of Felix in the 7th round would be nice for this team, but whatever, it's pretty much impossible to not have weaknesses in a 12team league full of non-idiots. I go into my drafts targeting a QB like Cutler/Palmer (risk,reward QBs with good value) and always try to pair them with Garrard in the 9th or 10th round. Even if Palmer falters, you still have a solid QB in Garrard who was QB 10-12 last year without any sort of WRs or OL to speak of. Jacksonville's offense and Garrard's situation should definitely be improved, and I look for him to finish around #8 this year. Pairing him with a guy like Palmer who, when healthy, is a top QB I think is a wonderful strategy. You have adequate starting performance to fall back on should Palmer not have a great year. This strategy also lets you build up your RBs and WRs. I think the AP/Portis combo is tremendous (Portis is the last of the better RBs imo), and Larry Johnson is a solid backup for when Portis is hurt. I love the Steve Smith pick, think Braylon will be your #2, and its going to be close between DeSean and Anthony for your #3. Great depth at this position as well, I love Josh Morgan this year. Witten is, of course, the #1 TE and Minnesota is going to be a top defense. All in all, I'd say an extremely successful draft. I disagree with BuffOrange's rating, I'd give you an A-. Ocho Cinco was available, but with the boom/bust of Steve Smith and Portis I wanted to go a safer route with Edwards. LJ lasted to the 6/7 turn along with Reggie Bush. Gonzalez and Jackson were both available at the 8/9 turn. I took sanchez figuring I would know early on in the season whether he is worth holding onto or not. And he could turn out better than Palmer/Garrard. Not much available on the RB front right now. Earnest Graham, Sproles, Fred Jackson... ...thanks for the input. Don't trust Warner this year...I guess Cassel is an ok backup for 12 teams. I'm almost certain you could've done better at TE with Zach Miller or somebody. I like him too but my personal preference would be a WR2 like Boldin or Colston (if available) and a QB like McNabb/Romo/Schaub instead. I don't see much upside at WR. Moreno/Wells should be an ok RB2 platoon. I'm starting to kick myself for letting the Wells-haters talk me out of him after the other night. C+ if you start 3 WRs. B-/B if 2. Yah I think I like 85 more than Braylan this year. I dont even think 85 is more risky. Gonzo/Jackson are sick value at 8/9. There's almost zero chance Sanchez will be better than Palmer/Garrard baring injury. I still think Steve Smith is that good. Until Delhomme's arm falls off Im not taking Jennings/White ahead of him. Like I said earlier, nothing wrong with getting your TE late if you don't get a top guy. Just assumed there were better guys available but then again this might be the 1st year in forever where Shockey isn't going way too high.
