Where are these radical Christians you speak of and what have they done.

Ever heard of the Crusades? Or maybe the wackjobs who blew up a building in OK because they thought the government was an affront to Jesus? But I guess you're just a radical Christian sympathizer?

My point was that it's wrong for this person the OP brought up to use the word "Muslim" as if it's some racial slur and that we should be afraid of them.

We should be afraid of Muslims of middle eastern origin. We should fear the Arabs in Saudi Arabia and the Shia Persians in Iran. Why? They allow themselves to live in muslim theocracies that espouse the idea that westerners should be killed in the name of their religion, and seemingly don't raise their voices in disapproval.

Uuuuuuh...MUSLIMS are the ones that have a problem separating religion from civics? Really? Not any of the "Christian" conservative politicans already in office?

Your use of quotation marks is appropriate there. W is no more a Christian than Leon Trotsky was Jewish.

I was watching Fox News today and they had a reporter who has been reporting thoughout the streets of Iraq all week long. This is the kind of stuff you will not find in Obama kool-aid drinking NBC land. The reporter is going around in the streets talking to Iraqis and things there are amazingly normal. He was in a park today asking one of the Iraqis if he wanted the American's out and he laughed and said that he liked the Americans and hoped that they'd stay. He was using terms like "man" and "dude". Call me crazy, but when the going got tough didn't Obama and Harry Reid say that the war was lost and that we needed to send the troops home immediately? Seems to me that the Republicans were the ones who had the "Muslim" Iraqis backs. I'm a Democrat who's glad that we had guys like McCain who refused to wave the white flag over there. Picking out one stupid person with radical broad brush notions is just plain dumb. There's stupid people on both sides. But as far as I can tell we still have not been attacked since 911, and looks like we have won the war in Iraq. Please don't try to convince people here that the Republicans hate Muslims, they were the ones who still supported fighting for them when things were at their most bleak. BTW, I'm an American first and a Democrat second dude. McCain is the clear choice if we want to keep this country safe the next four years. I could care less if the Europeans hate us, screw them.

I hope historians of the Iraq War take stuff like this into account when trying to understand why we invaded. It wasn't about a "freedom agenda," it was about killing Muslims to a lot of the base. And no, I don't think Bush thought that, but a lot of his supporters sure did.

Yeah, Bush and Cheney and the gang don't decide on foreign policy themselves, they listen to their nutjob supporters. The decades-long cozying up between the Bush family and the Saudi's was a front to mask their true anti-muslim agenda.

Retard.

So you're one of those people huh? Joe McCarthy reincarnated...You take every statement that doesn't say "freedom ain't free" or "we have to protect ourselves and our families against the evil-doers" and you associate it with sympathizing with the enemy.

Those tactics worked in the 50's but I like to believe that maybe people are most rational these days. I'd like to see an America where folks don't use fear as a tactic to tear people down.

You live in a fantasy world it is a nice thought but doesnt exist. Typical ,you didnt answer the question . There are people in the world that want you dead . Take the rose colored galsses off and answer the question ,What would you do about people that want you dead?

Jesus dude....

I have taken a fair amount of flak for my criticism of islam on this board, and I still say that as a religion it's a pretty poor one. But you are painting millions with a broad brush and are coming off like an extremist yourself.

Should we really be afraid of every muslim in Detroit and Lackawana? Really?

Should it be? If the Iranians and Saudi Arabs REALLY were nice, open-minded, peace-loving people who were radically opposed to the ideas of Jihad and sharia, wouldn't they throw off their oppressors?

It doesn't exactly work that way in an non-democratic society. And also, they are nice, open-minded people. They're regular people like you and me! Not every Saudi or Iranian wants a Jihad, in fact I'd argue that very very very few of them do!!

If you're not joking you're frighteningly ignorant to think that entire countries are filled with hate driven radical militants. That's simply not the case. Please talk to anyone who's every travelled to these countries. Or people who have family there, or who have themselves emigrated from these places. They're not that backward hell-holes you make them out to be.

 I'm not advocating nuking anybody or rounding them up and sending them off to camps. What I *AM* saying is that we should keep a keen eye on them. If anyone thinks that those particular communities don't contain sizable populations fo people that support the idea of jihad against the west, that individual is deluding themselves.

Have YOU been to the Middle East? I have.

And that was Kuwait, one of the more "moderate" of the Arab nations. It was still a backward place. Women in burkas, men flaunting their oil wealth. For the veneer of modernity, it's still at its heart a "traditional" muslim society.

Yeah? And "traditionally" the Muslim faith is one of peace- even more so than Christianity- so what's your point? They're Muslim. Okay, good for them. So was one of my college roommates.

EDIT: I typed "faith" where I meant to type "peace."

Right. So you had a Muslim room-mate. Kudos.

I'm sorry, but try and tell a 16-year old girl who's subjugated into an arranged marraige and then abused by her erstwhile husband while all the time being forced into wearing a burka for the rest of her life about how enlightened Islam is.

Edit: And, correct me if I'm wrong here, but wasn't Islam imposed upon the world via military conquest?

I remember reading once that, statistically speaking, that there are approximately

2 to 4 % the Muslims in the world would fall into the category of extremist. So that would mean millions of them. How dangerous they would be is any body's guess.

Let's not lose focus here. This argument has nothing to do with Muslim Theocracy and Human Rights. You originally touted them a military threat to the US. These are separate issues and their treatment of women has NOTHING to do wtih their intention or their CAPABILITY to attack the US.

That was in retort to your assertion that Islam is a religion of "peace." Domestic abuse in the name of God is not an indicator of peaceful intent.

That being said, the THREAT of which I speak is a cultural one. If we are accepting of their way of life, if we tacitly allow the growth of Islam from within our midst, we're effectively abandoning our western ideals of free thought, equal rights for women, blind justice and the like. It's the reactionary nature of Islam even in its "moderate" form that is a threat to our way of life. It's the raadicalism of the leaders of the religion that spurs muslims (even american-born ones) to violence against our way of life.
