Ch 4 may get dropped from Time Warner?

Do you think this would be as big a deal if they did not carry the Bills games? I don't watch ANYTHING on CBS. I also dont watch too much TV... mostly cable and sports.

Do you think LIN would be doing this if the Bills were not doing as well? I feel like they are laughing at all the TW customers because they have this huge bargaining chip. But like I said, cable is my only option in my neighborhood.

I guess I will have to bite the bullet and get an antenna since I have people coming over for the game on Sunday

LIN's doing this in ALL of their markets, so yes they would.

CSI (and all the spinoffs) are on CBS, as is Survivor. These are some of the most watched shows on network TV.

This is not just about WIVB & TW. It is any LIN owned station on the TW system in cities across the US.

It has nothing to do with the Bills success.

You need to read a bit more before you rant.... This shutdown of LIN stations on Time Warner is happening in Dayton, Columbus, Toledo, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Austin, Green Bay, Buffalo and a number of other cities as well.

I seriously doubt folks in Toledo care how the Bills are doing, but I bet people in Indy are pissed about not seeing the colts this weekend.

This is not a Buffalo thing. Stop thinking so locally.

I DO READ CAREFULLY.... MAYBE I SHOULD REPHRASE.

Do you think LIN is using their coverange of ALL NFL games as a bargaining chip?

THAT was not a rant. Maybe YOU should be a bit more sensative. I am the LAST person to think locally. It was just a simple question and LIN can also choose to pull whichever stations from whichever carrier it wants - it is not all or nothing. In our local market they have some powere - all of their messages to viewers kept reiterating the point that we will not be able to see Bills games. I am well aware of the fact that Channel 4 is not owned locally, but find it very convenient that they are using the games as a way to make me, as the consumer pressure my cable carrier.

I now remember why I left this message board.

This is true....Go buy an antenna if you have time Warner or call time warner and make them pay for it haha oh wait that'll never happen

After February 2009 though this will no longer be an option

???? Of course it will still be an option. There are HD antennas, as well as converter boxes.

There are no such thing as HD antennas. All antennas can receive HD signals. Don't buy into the hype and spend more for an HD antenna.

Otherwise, you're right

I never mentioned converter boxes...

Most people that have to use an antenna don't have a digital tuner built in...

That's actually not true anymore. Lots of people use antennas to get free OTA HD.

Antennas aren't like they used to be.

Correct on the HD...my bad. Although, like all products, some are better than others. Sometimes a better antenna costs a few extra bucks. I used rabbit ears for years and can attest that there are real differences in quality.

Why thank you... it was just a quick question.... I KNOW they are a huge company, but I am sure that the big shows like CSI, etc. give them national leverage but HERE in Buffalo it gives the local station a HUGE bargaining chip. That is all I am saying...

That set me off too because I just chased a chipmunk around my basement. Ridiculous morning.

Because you are over sensitive?

I didn't harrass, swear or impune you, Your message asked "would LIN be doing this if the Bills weren't doing so well"? The answer given stated why they would, regardless of the Bills status. LIN does not just own CBS stations, but FOX stations, ABC affiliates and others.

LIN only choose to "pull stations" from markets where they have no carriage agreement with TWC. They choose to stay on in NONE of these markets. They cannot choose to pull themselves from carriers with which they have an agreement, only those that they don't.

NOT AT ALL.. I would call saying "you should read more carefully", "stop thinking so locally" a little insulting though. It's a message board - I wrote something quickly...because I am working and you don't know why I wrote that. (which was just to say how fortuitous that they carry something some of us love).

I understand the situation.... I was just adding a thought that it gives them more leverage in a market such as ours to have the consumer lean on the cable company a bit. YES, football fans along with every person who loves whatever show on CBS.

If I offended, I apologize. I like to consider myself a (usually) polite poster.

I can understand how this whole WIVB thing would have TWC customers very upset. You can have all your people come over to my house and watch the game.

This should rankle them some more...

The CBS Cincy affiliate, WKRC, switched from IND at HOU to TEN at BAL yesterday:

I don't know if the switch was because of the tendency to air AFC North games here, or if it's worthy of a conspiracy theory.

OK... truce

As you may see from my earlier post - my morning begame with a chipmunk running rampant through my basement (where my office is). Then I turn on the TV to see if Channel 4 is there..... GONE.

We can not get DirecTV or Dish Network unless we want to cut down tons of trees (inlcuding our neighbors) and FIOS... not in my neighborhood yet.

So I have to listen to Chris Musial say "You have a choice" NO!! I DON'T!!! I don't want an antenna!!!!!! That is just something else to deal with......

Oh yeah... I am getting married in 8 days so I am on edge...

I know, I bought one a year or 2 ago when TimeWarner didn't have Fox in HD, then I switched to D* and now I really don't have a use for it anymore since I get all those channels anyways, wish I lived closer to the border to get CBC in HD

Yes, you do have a choice. There's a 90% chance that the trees actually will NOT interfere with your signal at all. The dish points UP, even though it doesn't look it. As an example, Nervous Guy said the same thing before -- "Trees, can't do it." Installer came out and said, "Trees, can't do it." I convinced him to get a second opinion from a real installer. He came out, installed it, everything's worked ever since (last I heard).

I have a neighbor who actually has the dish pointing directly at the roof (or so it looks) -- but they obviously get a signal. I keep meaning to take a picture and post it here.

And an antenna is a choice -- just one that you're not willing to do. As Rush says, "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."
