Are you out of your mind??......I can't believe how mentally challenged some of our fellow Bills fans are

Nice resort to challenging someones mental capability thats constructive and really adds value to this thread. Yet I don't see you providing any real evidence as to why my question is so ludicrous. Far better players have restructured contracts to help a team on the cusp of greatness. I guess since you have so many more posts than I have it makes you my intellectual superior so sorry to waste your audible input with my mentally challenged rambling.

10 sacks per season. All coverage, huh? When was our secondary this good?

Can you remember a game where Schobel was ever dominant?

The one season where he put 14 sacks or so, was a good year, but any year other than that he is just sort of... there.

Schobel is overrated, not underrated.

Cue the person to come in with all the stats now.

Schobel is not overrated!!! He has led this defense in sacks for the past 5 seasons! everyone thought that because we got stroud schobel would automatically get 16 sacks this year. it has actually worked the opposite so far...schobel has been double teamed a lot with the left tackle and the running back leaving stroud to cause havoc in the center. besides the fact that most of the time he has been playing run defense, staying in his gap and letting mitchel and poz beat the crap out of the other teams run game. i am pretty positive they couldn't run the perimeter of the defense yesterday, it was all up the middle, why because schobel forced them back inside.

You act is if the average actually means he gets 10 sacks/year.

Only 3 years out of 7 has he gotten 10 sacks or more, so keep pretending he's good for 10 sacks each year just because you know how to divide his total sacks by the number of seasons he has played.

He has a point, you don't pay a man 50 M who you can single block on a regular basis. Screw the stats, we see it with our own eyes. I'm not about trading him at all, but yeah, he is overrated and overpaid.

I think people get too caught up int hat $50mm number. The guy was about 30 when he signed the deal, with the majority of the guaranteed money in the first three or four years, and would be what, 37 at the end?! No way he plays out the deal. There's no point in trading or releasing a player who made the majority of his money in bonuses anyway and at this point would cost us more to get rid of than keep. Let's say the guy we drafted, but can't crack the active line up can play this year or next. At that point Schobel becomes one of the best situational pass-rushers in the game (not to mention I have heard people say that this would be his ideal role).

In the end, I cannot see the Bills doing anything with Schobel for the next three, maybe four years. He fits into the plans somewhere and unless the money is absolutely needed for something else, why bother trying to replace him. If the Bills thought they couldn't sign Evans or Peters or whomever because they gave this deal to Schobel, I would have to believe they would have gone in a different direction or started to find replacements for the other guys we would have to lose to keep him (i.e. Evans, Peters, etc), which they didn't.

Your right I am caught on the 50M number. I like Schoebel I really do but I think his sack totals are a little misleading. Like someone else said where are the dominant games? His sacks are often coverage and garbage sacks I don't remember alot of game changing plays from him which is exactly what I want from a 50M number one defensive end. I think he would make a great situational DE and mentor for a younger player and would love to keep him on the team but not at that number when we really need a tight end, center, linebacker and a game changing defensive end. On top of those needs we have contracts that need to be worked out. Schobel himself said he never wants to be over or under paid and when I see what no name talent has done to him in one on one blocking this year, three games in a row I am concerned.

This thread is filled with Blah Blah Blah. Why can't people be happy that the Bills defense is in the top 5. Overpaid/Underpaid it doesn't matter does it? Dwight Freeney makes more money than Aaron and he's been hurt. Has Aaron ever been hurt in his career? Nope.

People see sack totals as the be all and end all for DE's. It's only half the job. There is something called stopping the run and Schoebel is pretty good at it.

Who's saying anyone is unhappy with anything. I am very happy with our team in alot of ways. I'm pretty sure a message board is the place to blah blah out thoughts of what might help this team become stronger. Our top 5 defense hasn't been earned against offensive juggernaughts. That being said I am optimistic that we are learning to be a contender and thats all the more reason I'm starting to look at things closer. I think the rose colored glasses around here are helping people miss the fact that we could easily be 1 and 2 right now. I'm glad were not I hope we go 18 and zero but I am objective enough to realize this is a young team that is learning to be a winning team. The defensive ends Schobel is being compared to have almost twice the forced fumbles in the same span as Schoebel Freeny in a year less and a year lost to injury thats what I mean by game changing. I guess I believe you have to have a defensive line that makes game changing plays to win a super Bowl. I think Stroud lays that foundation now if we can just find the demon on the end.

"This thread is filled with blah blah blah"

And then you go and do the same thing everyone else does.
