Royal Hideaway Playacar is the name.

Will be my second time to Mexico and am a little nervous for two reasons.

1) Last time there (Cancun)was way back in the day and we were there on the day of a Bills- Steelers playoff game. First two days there is kinda rainy and cold, so doing mostly inside stuff, like drinking and  Now Sunday comes and it is beautiful outside. This was the one where we fell way behind, Kelly gets hurt, Dough Boy comes in and we start to make a comeback. Well, wifey poo (to be at that time) wants to go to the beach after halftime, I say no friggen way, Bills playoff game....you all know the rest. That was a long night, prolly just about the biggest fight we have ever been in. And the Bills still lost!!! Plus we originally were booked in an an all inclusive, stayed for 1 hr, then got the hell out of there it was so nasty. Was a company incentive trip, so they booked us another place, but that was my one and only experience in Cancun and all inclusives.

2) Nother company incentive trip coming up, but this time to the place named aboved. Looks great, says all top shelf booze etc, but I still have my concerns

My fiancee and I looked into this place for our honey moon but decided on Sandals in Jamaica. I really like this place but for some reason could not talk her into it. As it turns out we got our honey moon paid for in Jamaica so that pretty much settled it.

When you get back shoot me a PM and let me know what you thought about it. There is also an unbelievable golf course in the area but its like 250 a round.

Have fun.

Wow, was looking to maybe play a round, but not @$250 per. Will do, we get back next Wed.

BTW, can see trouble brewing if the Sabres game on saturday night means anything. Bad things man, bad things

I take it this is on the Gulf coast? (you only mentioned Cancun). I have been to Puerto Vallarta four times but that is Pacifico.

Now Stuck, I know in your day traveling outside of your city was not done, as the horses got tired and such, but today we have these things called aeroplanes that let you go really far.

This got me intriqued however In recent years, dozens of U.S. citizens have been kidnapped in Mexico and many cases remain unresolved. Moreover, new cases of disappearances and kidnap-for-ransom continue to be reported. No one can be considered immune from kidnapping on the basis of occupation, nationality, or other factors.

Maybe I can arrange for the boss(no not my wife) to be kidnapped, now that would truly be an INCENTIVE trip for me!!!

You're nuts to leave the country in these troubled times, not to mention tossing your bucks to foreign economies.

Just saw the Key West thread, and thought I would post this in case anybody else was interested.

The place was nice, but no where near value for the money paid. Rooms were nice, pool and beach were nice also. However, the food was just okay. They advertised they had a chef that also has a two 2 star Michelin place, but it was okay at best. Service was very perfunctory, food was pretty basic . Put it too you this way, if I was anywhere else and paid over $100/couple for the meal at that place, would have though I was overcharged. The asian place was okay, nothing to write home about thats for sure, as well as the steak house. Can tell you I think the steaks in the Outback were better than this place.

Booze was fine. Now, because of the price and size of the place, it is not crowded. Plenty of pool and beach chairs, so that whole hassle was removed. Our bet day was renting mopeds with another couple and finding 3 way out of the way beach bars and eating fish tacos and just generally drinking like drunken sailors.

In short, think the company paid bout $800 a night for us to be there, and I would not have spent over $400.

So, I take it you were not kidnapped robbed or raped (physically anyway)? :P

I have been to Puerto Vallarta four times since 9/11, and never had a problem except with ignorant tourists. I am not saying I would walk alone in downtown Mexico City at 2:00 AM, but I would not do that in downtown Rochester, NY either.

I am going next February, relatively near to Cazumel (but on the mainland of Yucatan) near Playa del Carmen this time!

Unless you are on a cruise ship or a recognized tour to American tourist hot spots - no one should venture into Mexico on their own. Even 20+ year surfers on the West Coast are swearing off Baja - the drug gangs/police are too hard to tell apart.

There are open day shoot outs in TJ and other border cities between factions. Robberies and worse are rampant and tourists are caught in the middle

There are plenty of other (safer) places to spend your money - the Mexican tourist people try to supress the news - but it happens all the time

I agree that the border cities and Mexico City are probably very risky places to go. I had no problem getting on local Mexican buses and traveling unescorted an hour or more away from Puerto Vallarta, and never felt threatened. I was warned by MEXICANS to avoid TJ and Mexico City.
