After closing on an apartment in Brooklyn, I head over to meet the rest of the group and start laying our plans for renovation. I open the fridge and there's a bottle in it...1974 Dom Perignon. Now, I know that champagne is drinkable right away after bottling, and that this has *probably* lost some of its carbonation. But my question is if this is still drinkable? If that is true, then yes, its still good (if it were stored correctly), and yes, its worth a decent amount of $$ (somehwere between $200 and $500 i'd guess). Well i would not store that kind of jewel in a fridge if i don't plan to drink it within the next two hours! If that bottle was in a good cellar for the last 32 years that should be an amazing wine but with such an old bottle there's a chance it has become an awful drink ... I checked it out again and I have to say I was wrong on the year. It is 1976, Vintage. Sorry about the confusion. I will take a pic of the label and post it soon (if I can). And a good one it was, one of the best in the past 50 years. The best way to tell if it has been stored properly and is still good is to open it up and taste it. This was a very dry and hot summer and in fact it's probably the best wine year ever... You should check the value of this bottle, frankly i'm not sure i'd drink it, but probably'd sell it and buy a 12 bottles case of last year's production with the money i'd get!
