And the Iowa-class battleships were pretty ships. I think they'd nicely complement a skyline. I'd prefer it to the Transamerica Tower...and I actually like the Transamerica Tower's architecture. The Hornet (it picked up the Apollo 11 and 12 astronauts) is berthed across the bay in Alameda and is open to the public. Since it is somewhat off the beaten path in the former Naval Air Station, the tourist traffic isn't that great and the group that runs it is having trouble paying the electric bill among others. they were talking about moving it across to Sf where a lot more people would tour it, but those plans look to be shelved due to the SF Bored of Stupervisors idiotic rantings. With the state of affairs in this country right now... plunking a battleship in the middle of San Fransisco would be idiotic. San Fransico is one of the most Liberal cities in North America. He's a vet of war because of the Iran Hostage Crisis. I was glad to see San Diego take her in.
