NFL | Hawaii may bid for the 2016 Super Bowl

Pacific Business News reports Aloha Stadium's top management wants to upgrade the sports complex so the state can make a credible bid to host the Super Bowl in 2016. Stadium management is convinced that the planned $129 million stadium makeover could help lure the National Football League's 50th Super Bowl to Hawaii. They said that would give the state about 10 years to plan and build 32 luxury suites and add 10,000 more seats to satisfy NFL requirements for hosting a Super Bowl at the 50,000-seat stadium. Brian McCarthy, an NFL spokesman, acknowledged that Aloha Stadium management has informally pitched the idea to the league. McCarthy said he wouldn't rule out the possibility of a Super Bowl in Hawaii, but described it as a long shot.

Beats the heck out of Detroit or Kansas City. I am soooo there, if it actually happens...

That stadium has serious problems due to the salt in the sea air! Bad corrosion all over. They paint everything white each year but that only covers up the problem.

Imagine if all the over-passes on the Thruway, that had to be rebuilt because of salt damage, were just repainted! It's a very similar problem. It's amazing that it's held together this long.
