If you guys don't know about this trial, here's a little info.

Ihsan and Zahraa have a 16 year old daughter that refused to marry an older man in Iraq.  They are deep into the arranged marriage.

The daughter has only been raised in the US and ran away from her parents because they were getting ready to ship her to Iraq to marry this guy.

The parents went to the bus stop they knew she would be at and tried to kill her.  The dad jumped on top of his daughter and starting choking her.  She went limp and was on the doorstep of dying.  The kids at the bus stop jumped on top.  The boyfriend got a boxers fracture from punching the dad so many times.  The dad was a big dude and these are just teens....it took everything they had to save the girl.

The mom was also part of it.  She was trying to get the teens off the dad so he could continue the strangling.

She wasn't arrested that day and then fled to Canada.  Then the courts brought charges on her and then then the Cops went looking for her....found her.

This is insane.  I don't know how the defense can argue with this ""Honor" Killing.  This is the US, even for religious purposes, you cannot murder.  But these parents feel they are justified.

Seems like a slam-dunk trial to me.  Especially with the cell phone footage.

I'm curious; does the older man in this arranged marriage have to pay the parents for the right to marry their daughter.  The attempted murder motivation could go beyond "honor."

I don't know much about arranged marriages but I did read a comment from someone that claim to be in that culture and yes, the father was supposed to get a large amount of money.  So in this case, its basically the father selling his daughter for money.

Marrying for love is relatively a new concept... Like in the last 100 years...

Just saying?  NOT that there is anything wrong with marrying for love.

Just throwing it out there... 🤪
