Obviously we have a coordinated sick-out among air traffic controllers.

In other words, a mini-strike.

This is where we see the difference between a Reagan and a Trump. Reagan dealt with an illegal strike by firing the strikers.

Trump has Duffy issue tepid warnings to the absent controllers. For all his bluster, he is not about to take the risk of causing Americans to miss their flights.

Completely different situation.

The ATC strike was an illegal violation.

This is not.

This is a political game using human pawns.

They have every right to call in sick when the gov refuses to pay them.

All the more reason to privatize the ATC function of the FAA, so it can no longer be used by stupid, reckless politicians.

No matter. This tragedy has nothing to do with the FAA and looks like an uncontained engine explosion which may not have been possible to recover from, though time will tell.

Engine failures are trained to all the time, and engines have kevlar to keep parts "contained."

This may have been beyond that ability.

Why would you ever risk something like ATC being at the hands of board rooms, profit margins, and the like? Horrible idea

Is this a serious question?

The answer is that it works just fine in other countries, and it isn't working here, on so many levels.

Not "horrible idea."

Best idea.

I  asked Ai the question "who pays air traffic controllers in..." Europe, Asia,S. America, Africa.  Each answer began with "The national government generally pays." Interestingly, Brazil's are employed by the Air Force.  I did find an entity called Eurocontrol which is run by multiple member states that appears to regulate air travel in Europe but does not appear to be private.  What countries are you referring to?

New Zealand.

Australia.

Canada.

Germany.

100 countries.

Self funded. Detached from gov funding.

"Today, roughly 100 countries receive their air traffic control services from user-funded utilities. Australia, Canada, Germany, and the U.K. all have newer, more-advanced technology than our Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and all of them are self-funded and independent of government budgets. If any of their governments were to have a shutdown like ours, air traffic control would continue to operate normally."

Roundy isn't bright enough to know this.

Others are, and it gets this necessary system away from idiotic political manipulation.

Ai failed miserably, here.  Perhaps continents weren't specific enough.

No worries mate. An honest overlook.

The point is that we should do it and remove this function from political manipulation;

To the lefty idiots dancing on the coffins, the F'n engine fell off the plane during takeoff. It was found on the runway. Nothing to do with ATC.

i don't hear anyone celebrating.  I watched the owner of the parts and service company that got destroyed, almost in tears.  He's convinced 2 of his missing employees are dead and they're still trying to account for some customers.  It was clear from the first video of the crash that the plane failed during take off.  Why would anyone think that was due to air traffic control?
