Rosenhaus article on espn

Actually Ricky Williams owes the Dolphins several million dollars at this point, which I'm sure is a motivating factor in his return.  Also, Kellen Winslow, Jr. has to repay the Browns somewhere between 2 and 3 million of his signing bonus because he violated the terms of his deal by riding a motorcycle.

I get the jist of your comment though, Ryan Leaf gave back 0 dollars and neither Williams nor Winslow are doing it by choice.

That is what I said ... they give back bonuses <u>just</u> when they violate contracts so they should honor them and teams should take them to the wall when they do so. It is an even deal despite some on claims of unguarenteed contracts those who get signing bonuses they do get guarenteed money up front.

If McGahee takes his game to the next level, give him his money.  Also, is there any doubt that Rosenhaus is paying Mcgahee finder's fees for talking to other players?

He does that, he gets franchised, and will play in snow the rest of his life

Getting franchised equals only one more season.

Although it is rarely worth doing teams can franchise a player every year if they want to.

The problem of course is that the team then pays the average of the top 5 RBs in the league, so for a RB that equals about $8 mil/yr or about 10% of your cap space. This has been done to several OL the last few years but QBs and RBs are rarely tagged for more than one year because of the cap cost.

actually, a franchise player is entitled to an average of the top 5 at his position OR 120% of the previous year's salary (whichever is greater).......that is why it is so detrimental to tag year after year.......

the reason this happened with jones and pace the last few years is simply because they couldn't get long-term deals done -- nothing to do with position.........in fact, it's cheaper to tag a RB then an OL, and QB is only around half a millon more.......

side note -- the OL number should go down next year now that jones and pace have reduced their cap numbers for the upcoming season.......
