May Movies: Summer Season Begins

Recommended Posts

I guess technically the summer movie season has already begun with XXX2 & Hitchhiker's Guide opening this weekend, but May has lately been the launching pad to one of the favorite times of the year for all movie buffs.

This May we got both laughs & sports with Will Ferrell's Kicking & Screaming, & Adam Sandler's The Longest Yard.

We have Paris Hilton's "acting" debut, God help us, in House of Wax.

Ridley Scott goes back to the genre that won Best Picture for him in 2000, with the Crusades epic, Kingdom of Heaven.

The creators of Shrek & Shark Tale, give us their latest with Madagascar.

The unusual trio of Jet Li, Morgan Freeman & Bob Hoskins in Unleashed.

Renny Harlin's long delayed Mindhunters, and it's J-Lo Vs. J-Fo, in the incredibly lame, Monster-In-Law.

Oh by the way, we finally get to see how Anakin becomes Darth Vader, in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

It's the best Summer line-up since 1999, enjoy the trailers.

I'm going to see Hitchikers Guide to the Universe. That looks prety cool.

If SW III gets good reviews and can rinse the bad taste out of my mouth from the last 2 I'll go see it.

War of the Worlds should be cool, but I might wait and see that on DVD.

All of them look pretty good, except the one with Jennifer Lopez...sick of her. I can't wait to see SW, Batman, and Madagascar.

I don't know if this was brought up? Pretty lame I know!

ALL Star Wars movies were released in May.

I also noticed that there were 3 years between each episode in the two trilogies.

Episode IV: May, 1977

V: May, 1980

VI: May, 1983

Episode I: May, 1999

II: May, 2002

III: May, 2005

My source is even lamer! My 6 year old son's Boy's Life magazine!

Probably not many people have caught onto this one, but there is a movie coming out of "A Scanner Darkly," a Philip K. Dick book. It's directed by Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise, a few other good ones) and shot in the same style as "Waking Life," where the film is shot and then each cell is painted/animated. It looks pretty breathtaking, and perfect for a cerebral sci-fi thriller. For better or worse, Keanu is in it, but it looks pretty awesome to me.

You can access the trailer in the Quicktime portion of the apple.com site.
