Jets v Bills, Jan. 1, 2017--Tank You For Not Winning

There has been lots of talk here about whether the Bills should tank this season to land one of the top 2 or 3 qbs. I think the idea of tanking an entire nfl season is lunacy, but what is not crazy is a mini-tank like what we saw at the end of last season, against the Jets. (I'm convinced that's why Rex was fired before the last game.)

By purposely trying not to beat the Jets, the Bills improved their first round draft position from 15 to 10. This one loss put the Bills in position to take one of the two remaining top QBs. It also improved the draft position in all subsequent rounds. While the Bills apparently weren't sold on Mahomes or Watson, the leap in draft position enabled them to garner in trade KC's 3d round pick (used to trade up for Zay Jones and acquire the pick used for Nate Peterman) and acquire KC's first round pick in 2018 (as well as draft 3D White). While we don't know yet how great a reward that will turn out to be, the loss of a single meaningless game markedly improved the Bills' chances of landing a franchise QB in 2017 or 2018.

So no, the Bills are not tanking the 2017 season (nor should they), but if they are out of contention late in the year, playing not to win a game or two at the end (by sitting key players) can pay big dividends and can be a very smart move.

KC's pick looks like it is going to be quite late in round 1 and therefore unlikely to be enough ammo to move up to get a QB unless the Bills own pick is in the top 5 -7. Who know if there will be more than one good QB prospect by the time the college season plays out...

I know that Rosen led UCLA's big comeback last week, but he wasn't very good early in that game and he was very lucky as well when one sure INT that he threw went right through the Safeties hands and landed in his receiver's hands for a TD.

Josh Allen wasn't able to do much of anything against a superior opponent.

No tank until were eliminated from playoffs. That kc trade not lookin so good but fkc it, its an extra pick, now they need to cut the players to get the 3rd round conditional pick.

7picks in the top 100 is nothing to sneeze at, they could build a really solid unit with the right picks if they didnt have to trade them to move up for a QB.
