Tiki Barber, Curtis Martin and Jerome Bettis all have had bad seasons in the past. Last year, Henry had an off year. Every running back had an off season, and every running back at some point has to fight a challenge. How come Bills had the only RB controversy when two other teams with better starters than Henry used No. 1 picks to select RBs? Could it be that it was known to NFL scouts that McGahee, once healthy, was head and shoulders above Henry? Drew Rosenhaus' newsplants in the summer were designed to put pressure on the coaching staff to play the best player. And how did Henry respond to this challenge to his job and manhood? By sulking. You may not choose to believe stories that Henry sulked in the locker room, but I believe them, bcause his action on the field was totally consistent with a guy who was just going through the motions - Missed blocks, wrong route running and a general lack of effort. His "lingering" injury was also curious, especially for a guy who previously played with a broken leg. In the end, no one screwed Henry more than Henry. If he gave a solid effort in '04, McGahee probably has fewer carries and there are fewer questions about Henry's ability, and Bills would have had a hard choice this year. If we have to wait until a drafted RB gets injured in camp to get a 2nd rounder or impact player for him in trade, that's what the bills will do.
