Rotoworld ranks Whaley 22nd Best GM

Recommended Posts

GM's get atleast two cracks at HC hirings, so evne if Marrone does terrible next two years and is fired, likely you'd keep Whaley around for at least one more HC, and maybe more liekly two. Of couse if RW is out of the picture and new owenership is here and lets assume team does somehow stay in Buffalo, Whaley then could be out sooner.

Here's their take (if you want a distraction from the Byrd talk):

22. Doug Whaley - Bills

Whaley has a major problem. His hand-picked quarterback, E.J. Manuel, looked nothing like a future franchise player as a rookie. If Manuel continues on his "bust" trajectory, it could be a mistake that ends the Whaley era in Buffalo before it ever really begins. That's a shame, because elsewhere Whaley hit the right notes as a rookie general manager. Alongside Buddy Nix, Whaley oversaw an otherwise strong draft, and set an aggressive tone that's been missing from one of the league's most staid franchises for over a decade. As Manuel has already proven, if Whaley is going to go down, it will be swinging. Sometimes that's all you can hope for when you're a franchise that hasn't made the playoffs since Bill Clinton was president.

How many games has rotoworld won? More to the point who exactly are the "people" making all of these claims? Why should we believe what they have to say over any other opinion. The stat sheet under Chris Williams' summary didn't include a single statistic associated to O-line play, just a bunch of zeros in all unrelated categories. Nix was the GM presiding over the last draft anyways. This draft will reveal much more of Whaley's vision for the team as he is officially "the man" this year. EJ was picked by Nix. If EJ succeeds or fails, it is a Nix pick in my book either way. Whaley should be judged on the QB situation from after last years draft as GM, not before.
