The higher seeded teams tend to be the new wave of passing offenses who put up a lot of points and become the trendy picks. The teams that win in the playoffs where games are called looser and teams are allowed to play defense thus making defense become more important and while they have good qbs aren't so qb dependant are the teams that win in the postseason. I imagine in the coming years you'll also see a similar trend in the NHL. Scoring scoring scoring, but it'll be the more sturdy defensive teams that will win conference championships and the ultimately the cup.
