Are you of the educated opinion that the Lee Evans trade was dictated from above to Buddy Nix, and was not Nix's idea or wish? I believe that was the gist of your article on the Evans trade, but it has lead to much debate. Also, is it standard practice for an NFL team to have the man in charge of salary cap and contract negotiations handle a trade without the involvement of the GM? Thanks in advance.

Speaking for jw without his consent... :D He wrote an excellent article about the trade which was highly critical it contains everything he wants to say about it. Now if I only could find the article again... O.o

With help of Google:

Original trade piece: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/articles/2011/08/12/20110812buffalo-bills-baltimore-ravens-trade.html

Follow up piece / state of the Bills article: http://washingtonexaminer.com/sports/nfl/2011/08/buffalo-bills-still-work-progress#ixzz1VtBnt36q

Quote:

Nix has provided varying explanations on the Evans trade.

Initially, he described the move as one that will allow Buffalo's younger receivers to develop.

A few days later, Nix attempted to put the trade behind him by telling The Associated Press that there were a lot of things that went into the deal that he couldn't elaborate on publicly.

Nix didn't handle trade talks, leaving that job with Jim Overdorf, the team's salary cap specialist and senior vice president of football administration.

What's unmistakable is how Evans' departure shed light on much of what's gone wrong.

The article caused quite a stir and there should be a huge thread about it linginering about on the board. jw was asked/begged for comments/clarification but declined stating that all he had to say about it was in the article.
