close-minded

ya know, just because its a "new generation's" music or a "different people's" music, you guys still sound ridiculously ignant when making statements such as "is rap even music?"

hate to be the one to tell you this but by definition, YES

by industry standards, YES

by your opinion, maybe not, but nobady asked if you thought it was music or not.

can any rapper be considered the greatest ever?

yes, just like im sure you have your favorite gay porn star, people who are fans can consider someone the greatest ever.

your post is completely un-necessary, and does not have one point to it.

way to take up space, which is what i assume you do best

Hmmm, I usually like my "music" to have a melody, harmonies, and people who actually PLAY INSTRUMENTS!

P.S. What is 'ignant'? Is Apple computer making insects now?

good for you, you like your music that way, great.

a lot of hip-hop has all of that( The Roots for example, are a BAND actually, a full band, guitar, keyboards, bass, drums, horns but its a rap group), just not in the quantities or style that you are used to. just because it is a beat derived music(still containing melodies and harmonies, they are just secondary) doesnt mean its not music.

it just doesnt fit the def of music in "your reality"

and thats ok, but you cant logically try to state a fact that "rap is not music"

its like me saying "the dolphins arent a football team"

they are a crappy football team, meaning they are below my standards, and i may not like them, but in reality there is a football team known as the miami dolphins who get paid to play football, and are football players, therefore a team

and njsue, i owe you an apology, when i went from KD's post down to yours i was expecting another idiotic post and was already blowing you off

but you definitely came through with the Curtis Blow

i agree, one of the best, but in my opinion i think the best comes down to Rakim or Biggie

woah woah woah. sweet child of mine...

Rap and Hip Hop are different things completely.

Tupac rapped. He did not produce Hip Hop.

Dont take it wrong "Tupacs Mom." I should have known not to post this on a board of Buffalo Hillbillys. Not to be rude in ANY WAY, but Buffalo just isnt a big rapping city. They are into Country ... etc.

But anywhere else you go (NYC, Miami, LA ... etc) and you ask who the best rapper to ever live was and there gonna say TUPAC or BIGGIE. The guy is loved world wide. There has been 3 movies made about his death in the past 6 years.

FYI: Tupac was gunned down (and some do believe he is still alive) because he was involved with the east-side crips of LA.

I dont idolize him for what he does in his personal life. But he is a major media icon and the founder of what RAP is today. He is the biggest there has ever been and will ever be. He has sold the most records (by the millions more) than any other hip-hop/rapper ever .... and no one is even CLOSE to hitting his mark. Since he dies 7 years ago, he has still came out with 3 more albums each with 3+ or more #1 songs on each one. He is also the author of 2 full length poetry books. The stuff he writes is absolutely amazing. Infact PRINCETON and HARVARD both now have courses on TUPAC and his writings. Look it up.

I idolize him for his rapping ability and his amazing lyrics. Not for his gang involvements.

well, luckily, im not from Buffalo, im from philidelphia, and they know just a little about rap and hip hp and r&b there.

yeah, there is a difference betwen rap and hip hop, i was trying to avoid getting that far into it here.

but the rap that Tupac and Biggie made was the last before there were such drastic lines drawn between rap (which is now just commercial music, catchy beat, no talent, dance club sh--) and hip hop(the actual musical form of rap)

Tupac and Biggie made Hip hop, back then.

and it was more of his dealing with both the crips and being signed to a bloods label tat got him shot, by his "best friend" Suge Knight

I have a really good book called "LAbrynth" about the LAPD's lack of investigation into his death and all the payoffs and cops who are in gangs and stuff

also, i even said i thought Biggie is the greatest ever, Tupac's up there, his work is really good, but i just like Rakim better, my opinion, thats all
