2011 is here and so is a new year of movies. Welcome to "Garbage Season", as for the next two months you will see the absolute worst that the movie studios have to offer, even though they have been promoting them like hell. A lot of the focus will be on the movie's that ended the year as they will be the wins fighting for Oscar supremacy. But for those of you not interested in the little gold statue movies, here is the absolute mindless fun you have to look forward to.

DC Comics releases the first of it's "Green" comic book hero movies this year with "The Green Hornet". A newspaper publisher by day and masked crime fighter by night, The Green Hornet and his martial arts expert sidekick, Kato, fight crime while trying to keep their true identities a secret.

Starring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz, Tom Wilkinson & Edward James Olmos.

Vince Vaughn & Kevin James star in the Ron Howard directed, "The Dilemma". A comedy centered on a guy who struggles with whether or not to tell his best friend that his wife is having an affair. Also starring Winona Ryder, Jennifer Connelly, Channing Tatum & Queen Latifah.

Nicolas Cage stars in "Season of the Witch". Crusader Behmen and his comrade-in-arms Felson return from years of battle to find their homeland decimated by the Plague. To appease members of the church, the duo agree to transport an accused witch to a remote abbey, where monks hope that a ritual will end the pestilence. Also starring Ron Perlman & Claire Foy.

Anthony Hopkins stars in "The Rite". A thriller centered on a disillusioned American seminary student who attends exorcism school at the Vatican, and his encounter with demonic forces. Also starring Colin O'Donoghue & Ciaran Hinds.

Natalie Portman & Ashton Kutcher star in "No Strings Attached". A comedy centered on casual friends Adam and Emma as they try to keep their relationship strictly physical. Also starring Cary Elwes & Kevin Kline.

Jason Statham stars in "The Mechanic". An elite assassin takes on an apprentice who has a connection to one of his earlier targets. Also starring Ben Foster & Donald Sutherland.

In "From Prada to Nada", Two spoiled sisters are left penniless after their father's sudden death, forcing them to move in with their estranged aunt in East Los Angeles. Starring Camilla Belle & Alexa Vega.

BUMP

Here are this month's Independent Films.

In "The Way Back", A young military officer leads an escape from a hellish gulag in Soviet-occupied Poland during WWII. Making a pact with six companions, the group embarks on a daring mission across Asia to hopeful safety in India. Starring Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess, Saoirse Ronan & Colin Farrell.

In "Kaboom", Smith's everyday life in the dorm - hanging out with his arty, sarcastic best friend Stella, hooking up with a beautiful free spirit named London, lusting for his gorgeous but dim surfer roommate Thor - all gets turned upside-down after one fateful, terrifying night. Starring Haley Bennett, Thomas Dekker & James Duval.

From Norway comes, "A Somewhat Gentle Man". One-time gangster Ulrik is back on the outside after 12 years in prison. Despite finding a new home (and a new mission) with his former boss, Ulrik considers a fresh start, given tentative connections to his now-grown son and his boss's secretary. Starring Stellan Skarsgard & Bjorn Floberg.

Tony Jaa returns in "Ong Bak 3". Picking up where Ong Bak 2 left off, master warrior Tien is nearly beaten to death during his mission to exact revenge on those who murdered his family. Delivered back to the Kana Khone village and taught to meditate, Tien soon is visited by his arch enemy for a final encounter.
