To say Charlie Weis has been offered and has accepted the ND head coaching job.

They do not have confirmation from either the University or Weis.

Mort just said on ESPN radio that Weis and ND are in negotiations but if the Dolphins called regarding their opening Weis would still listen.

All reported FWIW.... :(

Well we just cut off the porn and started doing some mad chanel surfing. There was a a report that he accepted the job yesterday but as far I was concerned it was just a rumor. Im sure ND will make Weis leave immediately for recruiting. Thats what they wanted Gruden and Meyer to do. But who knows if thats even possible.

GREAT news for a ND and Bills fan!

From a Globe article on the Weis-ND talks:

One issue with a college hiring Weis would be his availability during the recruiting season (the national signing date for high school players is Feb. 2, and this season's Super Bowl is not until Feb. 6).

Coach Bill Belichick said yesterday he expected Weis to be with the Patriots through the end of the season, and it is not unprecedented for an NFL coordinator to remain with his pro team even after accepting a college job.

Nick Saban was Belichick's defensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns in 1994 and completed the NFL season even after agreeing to become head coach at Michigan State.

"I think Nick did a good job," Belichick said. "We had a good relationship. We talked about it before he interviewed for the job. We talked about it after he was offered the job. We talked about it after he accepted the job and then we worked our way through it. I don't think it was a problem.

"The things he had to do for Michigan State, he said, `Look, I need this amount of time to do this.' So, we worked it out. He took that time. I don't know what he did. He might have recruited. He might have hired coaches. He might have rearranged his office. I don't really know."

Even if Weis stays through the NFL season, he'll certainly have other things on his mind. :( Plus I'm pretty sure the Browns didn't make the playoffs that year, so Saban had a good month or more before the signing period started -- that won't be true in this case.

Haha....actually I'm takin my last philo next semester. Some of my friends took him and they liked him. The one class that would have fit my schedule though is restricted. Oh well....

I do hope that Weis thing is true just so we can have an answer finally.

Not one the University's better two week periods...but if true--this is a really good hire...I think it ends up making Brady Quinn a first round draft choice in two years. Weis does wonders with Brady's...

Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Friday that even if Weis were hired by Notre Dame, he expected Weis to fulfill his duties with the Patriots.

"Charlie is here. Charlie is working hard. Charlie, I expect, will continue to be here and carry out his responsibilities through the season," Belichick said at his Friday press conference.

Browns did make the playoffs that year, and beat the Patriots.

Even better, with Weis already gone, it makes Romeo Crennell that much more attractive in places like Cleveland and Miami - I think he's the better coordinator in any case, so hopefully he'll be out of conference, at the very least.

Hopefully Crennel is gone as well, but with Belichick being a defensive genius and the lesser talent Weis has had to work with, I'd say that Weis is the better coordinator.
