The Owner Of My Company Was Fired

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago the owner of radio group I work with was removed from his position as CEO of our comapny. The one guy who we all believed could not be removed was escorted out of the building and will not be returning. The big surprise of it all was that we all thought he had a majority share of the company. Turns out he really didnt, someone completely unbeknownst to us had the controlling shares and the board made a decision to remove our boss. No one knows the real details behind the decision. He was a very good leader, smart and innovative. He started the company and we are quite succesful. However, he still wanted to run the radio business like it was 1984 when it was at its pinnacle. It has changed and with those changes comes new ways of doing business. He wanted to hold on to the old ways.I feel bad for him. He is a great guy. But Im optimistic that we'll have much success as we move into the next phase of this business which includes smart phone portability, on demand, online, digital and streaming, and social networking components.

Point is this...Ralph Wilson is out of touch and trying to run his business like its 1960. He is a good guy, and for the most part was loyal and did a very good job developing this brand (Like my boss did).Unfortunatley, nothing about this organization is clicking any more, or running like it should in a modern era . Perhaps there is another owner involved we dont know about? Is there anyone else who has a stake in The Bills other than Wilson? Probably wouldnt matter because there's little chance that Ralph does not own majority share I suppose, but right now would be a good time for someone to step in and take control of the organization and get it moving in the right direction again. Too bad Ralph never had a son.....Or better yet, that he doesnt recognize that it is time to turn over the reigns. To sell the team to someone responsible. Someone who will allow the team to re-develop a sense of dignity while allowing Wilson to have a sense of peace and maintain his legacy. Someone who will do the right things and keep the team where it belongs- In WNY.

You say smart and innovative in on sentence. Hold on to the old ways in another

Dude... How can the "owner" of a company get fired... unless he fires himself?

Did you even read his post? Many companies have multiple people with small ownership shares, and they are all owners. A board of directors, appointed by the owners, has the final say on running the business.

As the OP explained, he was the perceived owner, but unbeknownst to everyone he, in fact, did not own a majority share as everyone had believed. Thus it was shocking when he was being escorted out. OP was saying "what if" something like that was the case here, where unbeknownst to all of us Ralph, in fact, no longer had a majority share of this team.

Be careful what you wish for, the NFL is a much bigger corporate business, and the fans mean very little. Buffalo has a die-hard fan base, but an NFL team owner will not see that as a positive when corporate dollars are slim in WNY. I know they suck right now, and the OP is dead on about Ralph, it's no co-incidence that the Raiders and Bills are 2 of the worst teams in the league, but once Ralph is gone, this team is close behind. Bury your head in the sand and pray for some savior to keep the team here if you want, but it's really not going to happen.

RW still owns the majority of the team. Were he to transfer a minority interest to another individual it would be reported.

As for the fans, yeah, the NFL isn't as concerned as the average guy would imagine. Me paying $500 for a season ticket to 7 games is nothing, nor are 10,000 people doing the same. This is a 8 billion dollar business at the end of the day. What's a few million? They're surviving with or without us fans sitting in the lower bowl for a 3rd rate NFL team.

I totally agree with Ralph wanting to run the team like its 1960 and not wanting to give up control. What I just don't get is he's been staunch in keeping the Bills in WNY all these years why wouldnt he have some type of succession arrangement when he passes to keep the team in WNY?
