Bandit's Mock

Recommended Posts

Here's a question for you, Bandit (and everyone else): out of all the positions we need (OT, NT, QB, OLB), which positions are deep in this draft and which are not? That could weigh into the decision of who to pick first more than anything. There seems to be some depth at OT (Brown, Saffold), NT (Thomas, Joseph), and QB (Lefevour, Pike) meaning we can get talent outside of that first pick (so trading down, while ideal, would not be necessary).

You're pretty much on target. The OT class has great depth through the first 8 players (Okung, Bulaga, Williams, Brown, Davis, Campbell, Saffold, and Iupati if you consider him a RT); the problem is that there's a huge dropoff after that. I think that--if Buffalo wants to guarantee themselves one of those top 8 prospects--they'll need to give up something to move up into the top 36 picks (should only take a 4th rounder or so). The NT class is very deep, and you can likely find a starting NT as late as the 3rd round with a guy like Torell Troup of Central Florida.

As far as rush LBs go, those guys can definitely be had later in the draft. A guy like Virginia Tech's Jason Worilds or Montana State's Dane Fletcher would make great 4th round value at the position, and could end up as good a pro as one of the more elite prospects like Kindle or Morgan.

As to QBs, it really depends on what you're looking for...if you want a guy with some potential, you're looking at a Dan Lefevour in the 3rd or a John Skelton in the 4th.

Just my 1 cent.

Trade Down with Philidelphia for there 1st(24th), 2nd(55th) and 3rd(70th). So the Bills would have. Then trade back up with the (55th) and (72nd) pick back into the end of the first round with San diego(28th).

1st(24th) Charles Brown OT, USC. Long arms and big hands, great in pass protection.

1st(28th) Tim Tebow QB, Florida. Future NFL star QB.

2nd(41st) Terrence Cody NT, Alabama Space eating nosetackle.

3rd(70th) Jason Worilds OLB, Virgina Tech. Challenge for starting job and depth.

4th(107th) Riley Cooper WR, Florida. Tebows safety blanket at Florida.

5th(140th) Anthony Dixon RB, Mississippi State. Depth at RB. Lynch insurance.

6th(178th) Ciron Black OT, LSU. Depth at weakest position.

7th(216th)Brandon Deaderick DE, Alabama. Depth at posiiton.

Why would either of those teams want to do that? Buffalo would be asking for a King's ransom for the #9 pick, when the feeling around the league is that there are teams in the top 10 that would move out of their pick for much less (I've heard rumblings that Jacksonville would move all the way from 10 down into the late 20s for as little as a high 3rd round pick). You'd also be asking San Diego to move back 27 picks for what amounts to a 3rd rounder...that's not going to happen.

You can't expect that some team will blow you away with an offer or take a lousy one simply because you'd like to have more picks...it doesn't work that way.

Interesting, Scouts, Inc. has OT's Charles Brown and Roger Saffold rated just below Bulaga. But they can definitely be taken in the second, whereas Bulaga would require a first round pick. I like your pick of Derrick Morgan at #9 (assuming Okung and Williams are gone) then grabbing one of those OT's in the second and Lefevour in the fourth. The problem is, there will probably be no NT's in the available in the third, so maybe it's Dan Williams at #9 overall instead of Morgan...?
