HOUSTON: Hunters soon may be able to sit at their computers and blast away at animals on a Texas ranch via the internet, a prospect that has state wildlife officials up in arms.

A controversial website already offers target practice with a .22 calibre rifle and could soon let hunters shoot at deer, antelope and wild pigs, site creator John Underwood said yesterday.

Texas officials are not quite sure what to make of Underwood's website, but may tweak existing laws to make sure internet hunting does not get out of hand.

"This is the first one I've seen," said Texas Parks and Wildlife Department wildlife director Mike Berger. "The current state statutes don't cover this sort of thing."

Underwood, an estimator for a San Antonio, Texas car body shop, has invested $US10,000 to build a platform for a rifle and camera that can be remotely aimed on his 133ha southwest Texas ranch by anyone on the internet anywhere in the world.

Dubious. Somebody's going to wait for hours staring at a monitor in hopes that an animal will wander by, stand still, then use a keyboard or joystick to move some sort of link that is likely not accurate, have no info about wind, bullet design, cartridge, bullet drop over yardage, powder loading, type of rifle, mirage and so forth? And pay for that?

Now, if it were hunting liberals, it would be easy...just look for the outstretched palm, the foam around the mouth, the loud obscenities, or the hand groping towards sombody's wallet. Just shout "God is watching you", and they'll turn your way, scowl, and bare their yellow teeth. Squeeze the trigger, but don't bother aiming for the heart - it's made of stone. Take the easy head shot - it's so swelled, you can hardly miss.

Perhaps our esteemed leader, Dubya would like to take part in this internets huntin' action. He IS the president, so maybe we could even set up a remote gun in Iraq so that he can get off shooting Iraqis over the internets at his leisure. It's almost exactly like what he's doing now - controlling the war from a very remote location, safe and sound. Come to think of it, he'd see more action this way than he did while dodging guard service during Vietnam.

Do you think Dubya plays video games like Medal of Honor or SOCOM US Navy Seals? I think the gun in Iraq idea would at least keep him out of trouble.
