Why does it have to be “knock Allen down a peg”?

Burrow played 2 great playoff games.  He showed grit and poise and came back from a deficit.  He also led his team to beat KC in the regular season.

He’s #1 in completion percentage, #6 in passing yards (Allen is #8), right next to Allen for passing TDs and INTs.

There are objective metrics and game results that are a reasonable basis to believe he’s better than Allen or at least as good, without “looking for a reason to knock Allen down a peg”.  When you win, you’re considered a better QB than when you lose, that’s just how it is.

Edit: I need to add that’s not my opinion, of course.  I wouldn’t trade our rocket-armed Centaur for any QB on the planet.

My point is just that people can honestly believe Burrows is a better QB at this point on objective metrics and results, without being motivated to “knock Allen down”

I can’t agree on “played two great games”

He was fortunate his defense and Mahomes lacklustre play bailed him out after his mediocre day

Whatever it is they put emphasis on seems to be working pretty well from where I'm sitting.

    🤔

Can’t argue with the on field results, and if the only way to be successful was to draft players with spotty decision making skills and character issues, I’d be understanding of every team drafting in this manner.  I’m happy that’s not the case and more importantly happy that McDermott believes character matters.

My OJ Simpson comment was obviously tongue-in-cheek. I just can't stand when fanbases think that keeping players out of trouble is some sort of organizational skill when most owners/coaches are fixated on football and don't care much about life. Last I checked, "Tyrel Dodson's girlfriend accused him of hurting her, hitting her, breaking her door, and shoving her against the wall, and hitting her across the face, and stealing cash." He is still on the Bills, yes? Okay then.

To your question, there is a note that Andy Reid keeps on his desk. Per John Harbaugh, it's always been there dating back to his time with the Eagles. It says simply "Don't judge." I don't know any of these players on any intimate level. None of us do. As stated, there are upwards of 50+ NFL player arrests per year. I can only imagine how many go unreported. These are young athletes who in many cases come from tough backgrounds, with no real support system in place, and a pile of life-changing cash sitting in their bank accounts. I cheer for Tyreek and I root for him to succeed. He started the Tyreek Hill Family Foundation, he has done youth football camps, and he's very involved in the KC community. A cynic could say, "He's doing all that for PR," and maybe that is true. But maybe he isn't?

I don't think people should be defined by their worst moment, particularly when those of us in the public have little knowledge of what actually happened behind closed doors. I say that for any player, including Tyreek, Dodson, Willie Gay, anyone.

I agree, a singular incident is just that, a one off… I see the issue here with the organization who seems to happen upon more of these singular incidents than all other teams. They don’t put a priority on character and that’s fine if you’re ok with the results on the field and off. I’m very glad McDermott demands high character, doesn’t mean there won’t be mistakes made but I prefer his approach to team building compared to Andy’s.

Foxworth who is the one that stated Josh's ceiling is higher was an Allen hater. He has seemed to come around and accepted the fact that he was wrong about Josh.

Graziani has been consistent that he believes its Josh's time and that Buffalo will win the Super Bowl this year because of Josh. I agree with him. I have thought that Josh is a top 3 player in this league. I now think he is bar none the best player in the NFL.

This is where I’m at as well, I’ve felt he was the best player in the league after the road game at NE… but after this ridiculously historic post season game he just put together, more people are coming along for the ride

  5. I’m confident that the TD throw by Allen from start to finish, is a play that Allen and only Allen could pull off.

Pocket awareness and athleticism to get outside and brute strength to stiff arm a defensive lineman.. keeping eyes down field and throw a laser in the money while being hit and tackled… no other QB has all the tools necessary to complete that play

  6. Man, the level of admiration I have for 17 is gone to another level this year. With 3 years of tape and coming off 13 wins, a title appearance and MVP votes and getting every opponents best defensive shot… yet look at what this kid has done this year.

I feel blessed and downright giddy to call this stud a Buffalo Bill. Soak every single one of his performances in … simply amazing

  7. Sometimes its a good thing to be embarrassed like that, depending on how the team responds. The players, whether they say it in the media or not have to be feeling pretty good about themselves at 4-0. I remember watching a NFL films piece on the 95 49'ers. Steve Young said " We had just won three in a row when we went into Philly and got embarrassed 52-7, we had the attitude going into the game that we were going to win just by showing up." After the game he said something to the effect of not knowing what they were about but that he knew that wasn't it. I realize the situation is not exactly the same but if Jauron, Fewell and the players collectively come together and understand that they have no business relying on a second year QB to make or break their chances then this might just be a blessing in disguise going forward. Accountability is what I witnessed being the downfall of our team on Sun. When your starting QB goes down, if you're really a playoff team, you rally together and fight! You don't curl up in the fetal position and feel sorry for yourself. ;)

i agree...although the "second year QB" does make or break thier chances and we all witnessed that sunday.

  8. I would not pin that fumble on the handoff to JP, I think Lynch deserves more of the blame on that one, probably cause he caught the Cards player out of the corner of his eye directly in front of him just as he was getting the ball handed to him. AS for his other 2 turnovers, there was the fumble, and the INT after the game was already lost and he was just trying to force the ball to make a play.

He was hardly the reason why the Bills lost. The Bills lost because the Cards offence was having their way with the Bills defence, scoring at will and allowing the Cards to wear them out and wear the clock down. The game was going to become a shootout, and the bills offence is not built to play a shootout. The only way for the Bills to have had a chance with the way the defence was playing was to match the Cards point for point, and hope their defence could force some turnovers too. If trent has some weaknesses, I think one of them is that he is not a QB that is going to give you a great chance of winning a shootout, but neither is the Bills offence. He is a ball control QB that will win a game by controling the clock, and needs a good defensive performance to hold the opponents score down. He won't put up 50+ points in a game

he just needs to be a leader that whom the rest of the players believe in. He needs not 50 pts a game, but be clutch when needed, as he has already shown threw the first 4 games.

  9. JP sucks, Fowler sucks, Schobel is getting worse. McKelvin needs work not only in the back field but also in the return game. Like every other team in this league the Bills have thier share of warts, but they go into the bye at 4-1 and get some players back.

listen...it does not matter what anybody thinks of JP's play, hes the backup because the Bills found a starter in the 3rd round. JP will be gone next year(thank god) not only because i dont like him as a QB but these JP vs Trent rants are retarded. If your a fan of JP, then great, you'll have fun watching him play elsewhere. End of story. I'm not loyal to the person behind the mask, only to the player on the field. If Trent ends up being chit like JP then i wont want him around either.

  10. 4-1

If you would have told me that would have been our record going into the bye at the beginning of the season I would gladly take it.

Lets keep in mind a couple of things:

    - Our line has not played together for very long. I really expect them to get better as the season goes along. With that I think our running game will improve over time as well.

    - Edwards might have been knocked out of this game....but we HAVE found our QB

    - Our number 1 receiver is locked up for the forseeable futre

    - In this past game we were pretty nicked up....Schrobel is hurt, Stroud is hurt, Mgee out, our dynamic punt returner out, Hardy still learning the offense, etc etc

Yet we are still 4-1 and things are still looking good.

    i agree in total :censored:
