  1. Too bad, Schopp, spending a WHOLE day trying to incite us against the NFL because of spygate won't work. We know you love the NHL and hate football.

You've lost all credibility when it comnes to anything footballish. WGR needs to do somethng about their football coverage, because their so-called football reporter is also a hockey guy, Paul Hamilton I believe he's called, a poor substitute for Chris Brown. He also has never watched Seinfeld, by his own admission. Enough said there.

Get some football guys on air, WGR.

  2. It was a shock to flip on that station around 3:30 today and hear real football talkfor a change. Then I realized it wasn't Schopp and the Bulldog, but rather Dennis Williams and the REAL BULLDOG, not the guy who has to play a sap beside Mikey.

Please say that they got rid of the sulking boy who Donahoe snubbed so that he forever hates the NFL and replaced him with Dennis Williams.

  3. We've had good STs for several years, but haven't made the playoffs.

I want some new players who can actually start on offense and from my admittedly minor knowledge of who as avaialable today, I'd suggest that we passed over some good centers, guards and tight ends, let alone fullbacks.

Am I wrong? Do I have to name them? Most have already been selected by other teams. Are the other teams run by idiots or GMs who make the playoffs?

You do realize that ST is part of thi team and that we lost quite a few guys on ST. Why not the probably the best unit on the team for the past 2 years.
  4. Round 4: #111 and #132 comp

This is a Summary of Each Round in the Draft, in reverse order, taking us right up to Saturday's NFL Draft.

My Top Picks, in order of preference, and the pick # where I think they'll be taken

Keep in mind that highly-sought-after players from that Round 5 list could also be picked "early" at 132!

    141-Owen Schmitt -FB- WVU 247, 5.9ypc

    114-Jamar Adams -S- Mich 4.5 char +

    97-Mike McGlynn -RG- Pgh 6'4 311 bench+

118-Paul Hubbard -WR- Wisc, 6'3, 221, 4.4 very good blocker.

127-Andre Fluellen DT FSU burst, space eater, pres

115-Tyvon Branch -CB- Conn 4.31 #1 fastest CB - in BB gun incident, aggressive against the run

135 Frank Okam -DT- Texas 347 lbs, uses hands well, best in a rotation as he wears down

    107-William Franklin -WR- Mizzou, 6'1, 213, 4.3 more of a backup to Evans than a #2.

    98-Jason Jones -DE/DT - E.Mich tweener type 4.74

106-Jerimichael Finley -TE- TX 253 12.8 ypc effort

117-Chris Ellis - DE- Virginia Tech, char issue, #3 fastest DE, maybe best pass rusher in class (not run), best in a rotation!

    108-Craig Steltz -S- LSU 4.5 speed OK for Cover-2

116-Eric Young -OG- Tennessee - Could move outside to OT, had torn knee, out a year

109- Wesley Woodyard -S- Ky would chg from LB to S

122- Bryan Kehl -OLB- BYU older guy, mature, wraps up well

    W. Woodyard is a player. He could still play outside linebacker (doesn't have to move to safety) and would be an improvement over what we have.

Schmitt and Fluellen would be interesting. We need a fullback somewhere.

  5. I just read this whole thread. If I hid behind a fake name, I'd have a HOF-worthy post right now. Sorry, can't do it.

Please check out my show on Hometown 1230 WECK 6-9pm weekdays.

    Thanks,

    Brad

Go for it, Brad. I think we need to read that post. I can imagine whose names would pop up the most, but would really love to hear the real story.

  6. what are your thoughts on the Toronto "home game"?

Forgetting about whom they might play, do you think they will have a weird advantage because they are playing in their second "home" or at a disadvantage because their normal RWS fans won't be cheering them on?

I tend to think they'll win that game even in they play the Patriots and kind of hope that's who is on the schedule for The Rogers Centre.

  7. One of the top 10 players in the draft always slips in the draft. Whoever he is take him.

The usual top 10 are the 2 Longs, Matt Ryan, McFadden, Dorsey, Ellis, Gholston, McKelvin, Rivers and Clady.

Which one of these slips and why?

Which one would you NOT take at 11 even if he does slip?

(My guess would be Clady and I wouldn't take him ahead of Harvey, Albert, Thomas or Jenkins/DRC).

(I WOULD, however, take any of the others, even if it was just to take him ie McFadden or Ryan)

  8. No WR is worth #11, so who would you pick if these are avaialable at tha spot?

    OLB Keith Rivers

    DE Derrick Harvey

CB Leiodis McClendon or whichever other one you prefer

I'd be content with the best of these or even a top OL or D, but don't think I could turn down Rivers. He might play special teams at first, until we see if Mitchell is really any good. If - as I suspect - he is just average, then Rivers would be quickly on the field.

  9. Philly, schmoove? Aren't those the guys who took a busload of Eagles "fans" to the draft to boo McNabb, because they wanted Ricky Williams instead? Based on reports from a relative who works in the industry down there, Eskin is a Grade-A !@#$.

Which doesn't excuse the local afternoon show's aversion to talking anything other than Sabres/Bills -- agree completely about that. They'll say that the listeners don't care about other sports; while that's not entirely false, Simon (on WNSA) used to do all right with call-ins when he went off the beaten path for a segment or two.

That made it all the cooler to hear Dennis Williams go off about the Beijing Olympics a couple of weeks ago. Right now, I'd take either him or Brad over one of the current afternoon hosts. (The other half of that duo would be just fine, once he got away from his co-host's aura of negativity...)

We should just boycott WGR once they do stop talking hockey. They treat football fans as second-class listeners, so that's how we should treat them. Let the hockey fans listen all summer; see how their ratings fall.

What a joke this station has become with its current programmer. Think back to the days of Chris Brown, Bob Gaughn and the Coach, among others who actually knew their football. The guy - Andy Roth - turned the station into a hockey-only loser.

  10. Guys who have impressed me with their actual play last year. I'd like to see some of them in a Bills uniform.

    1.Derrick Harvey DE Florida

2.Wesley Woodyard OLB Kentucky The guy is always around the ball making plays.

    3.Steve Justice C Wake Forest

(or Blackledge, the Mississippi State center)

4.Robert Jordan WR Cal (I'm not impressed with the so-called top receivers)

    5.Hillis Fb Arkansas

(don't believe Dominic Goodman of Cincinatti is coming out, but he looks like the best WR in college football to me. Maybe next year.)

  11. I think you have stated the most sensible and most probable approach that teams take in drafting early rounders. In the Bills' case, I hope that DOES NOT mean, however, that they pass on a Rivers or Harvey just to grab a tall receiver. I will be very unimpressed if they do. What do you think?

I think the whole 'drafting the best available talent' concept is a little deceptive in that it is probably only relevant rarely. Most of the time it seems to me that 'the best available player' is only marginally rated higher than a slew of other players. In those cases it would be ridiculous to draft the(for example) OT when you have a probowl LT & set at RT when you could take a player of similar caliber in an area of need. A smart selector will acknowledge the concept that even though he has player A rated a little above players B, C, D-K, it is not an exact science & player K may well end up being the best of the bunch.

It is only when a player is significantly rated higher than the rest available that the 'drafting the best available talent' concept can really be considered. In those cases.....which are generally rare.....it would IMO be wise to either take the player(regardless of need), or orchestrate a trade down(which should not be too hard in that situation).

  12. Patrick Willis (or APetersen if he dropped) would make me happy, but if the brain trust at OBD had a plan something like this, I wouldn't mind having that top CB to replace Nate, seeing as we know nothing about Youboty. If it worked out this way, I'd be encouraged:

    Rd 1: Leon Hall CB

    Rd 2: David Harris ILB

    Rd 3a: Tony Hunt RB

    Rd 3b: Scott Chandler TE

In other words, if we miss out on Willis or Petersen, there ARE other ways to get four good players who will immediately help.

Just hope they don't settle on Lynch in Rd 1.

  13. I would be more than happy with your draft choices. Tony Hunt has probably moved down to third round because of his 40 time, but he has proven to be a solid performer. Never really thought about going TE so early, but one is needed nd if we can get our RB and CB in round 3, Miller would be a fine choice in second. The main thing anyway is to get P. Willis and go from there.

  14. Pro Football Weekly Interview with Jaworski

I respect Ron Jaworski and awful lot. He's really the only analyst who I think calls it straight and ignores the hype. However, he thinks the Bills are the biggest loser in FA. Frankly, I can't disagree. I don't have any problem with the reasons behind why we lost or got rid of the players we did, however I don't see how they are being replaced. We can't do it all in the draft, and we don't have the players on our roster that can immediately step up and get it done. There's no LB on our roster that makes up for our two LB losses. One DT doesn't equal two LB losses, especially in a rotational system.

I think the Bills are headed in the right direction, but I was hoping they would make a run for the playoffs this year, and I just don't see it with all the losses without a net gain.

Aw, gee, I respect Jaws "AND" awful lot too, {and I respect the English language even more}.

Poor Todd, he's gonna cry about London (little Man) Fletcher, Takeo (no Achilles Spikes) and the GRRReat Nate Clements).

Don't worry, Todd, just because Robbie and Donahoe are gone, there is still hope.

  15. I know there is alot of love here for LF, and as a leader he was important. But I remember many, many times looking for the MLB to fill a yawning hole, and London either getting blocked or getting there too late. People often say that he was a tackling machine, but every defense is set up so that the MLB can flow to the ball and be a factor. He was durable, but also prone to the slightly late elbow. I respect the guy alot, especially his work ethic, but I think we'll be better there next year, not worse (Willis?). I also think that a very servicable addition at RB will be our #2 pick. Thoughts??....

    [/quote

I've always felt this way, even to the degree that the Bills would never progress until they dumped him. He was big mouth, small production, unless you actually think his tackle totals were meaningful. Hope we draft Patric Willis or David Harris.

  16. Marshawn Lynch, Marcus McCauley, and Quincy Black is who Rod Woodson said the Bills should take...thoughts?

Used to think Woodson knew his stuff, but I didn't like his approach to the Bills Draft. I've seen Lynch play and wouldn't want him, especially if any of these guys were left at 12: Peterson, Willis, Hall or Okoye. [at least ONE of them will be.]

Many good RBs in round 2. Seems all Woodson did for research was pick three players at the Bills' positions of need and throw in some names. Then he says we MUST choose these three!

Besides, he didn't address the second third round pick we have.

Thought NFL Network would have done a better job.
