  1. JP may not be Joe Montana but he arguable has one of the strongest arms in the NFL and throws a great deep ball. When you combine that arm with Randy Moss's speed you have a very very ugly combination.

Trade him to New England? Are you F'in nuts?

I give him credit for coming up with the idea, whether you think he's crazy or not. I would NOT be afraid of playing any team with Losman at QB. I figure Belichick knows better than to offer a second rounder for a back-up with JP's record. So, it's not such a crazy trade scenario; it would rob us of a back-up, but we'd benefit long-run.

  2. Of course it matters what we gave up to acquire a player!

When you give up a high 2nd and a high 3rd for a player in a deep draft, he better be good. The Chargers traded up for Eric Weddle and were criticized for giving up such a large sum -- but he's a starter and has played very well.

Yeah, he fooled Marc & Co by playing on a good college team with other D-liners who were stars.

He showed some last year, but has looked horrible in pre-season games. Suppose he could go either way, turn it on or give up on football.

    I hope it's the former.

  3. The guy has deliberately become a mystery man, so why doesn't at least one of Buffalo's so-called journalists locate him and try to make contact, at the very least track his movements to see if he can actually walk without al limp?

What's the big problem? Are WGR, the TV networks or the News and Chronicle so hard up they can't afford to do a little investigative journalism?

More likely they're just lazy and prefer to speculate rather than investigate.

  4. ASHTON IS still a little loose. he was also a junior when he came out. so he is right were mccargo is -- both a yr behind. marv knew what he was doing and got very green value from top schools that would develop later on. these guys would have been 1st rounders.

ashton has a knack. in watching hin at camp, he and greer looked very active and athletic. nice balance, playn with sound leverage and smarts. they made james look like terrible and slow. greer also looked bigger and more physcial. i think he will be a special player this season. from rags to riches. lets hope eugene parker doesn't solicit him.

I don't think either McCargo or Youbooty are anything but borderline NFL players that the Bills reached for. Three years and what has either done? McCargo seems to be regressing. AY is a weird kid.

  5. We need this guy and the Bills are being stubborn. Pick up the phone!

A player is injured in an area that is difficult to heal and you never hear from him again, even though the season is about to begin. Doesn't this make you suspicious that he isn't capable of playing? Sure he wants a new contract before he shows up, because chances are good that if he ever shows up he will still be injured or the least, not the same player he was pre-injury.

Doubt we'll see JP in a Bills unifrom again.

  6. Meh, Crhis Browns prediction looks solid though: http://www.buffalobills.com/blog/index.jsp?post_id=3932 allthough he keeps 6 WR over 5 CB.

I can't agree with his TE guesses. Why would you keep a spot on the 53-man roster for a rookie who has just has his thumb operated on? And I'd keep Anderson over Massaquoi, but they will probably pick up a free agent to replace both of them.

Putting Fine on IR or the PS would allow them to keep Wright or James.

  7. 53-man roster

    Kicker - Lindell

    Punter - Moorman

    Long snapper – Neill

  8. Hello, everybody. Tim Graham from ESPN.com here. I hope you don't view this as self promotion by posting a link to one of my blogs, but the comment section has totally floored me and I'd like your opinion.

When I covered the Sabres I became a member of the SabresFans message boards and got quite familiar with the general displeasure diehards have when it comes to local media coverage of the Bills and Sabres. And I don't disagree in general (although I did find the Buffalo News bashing sometimes unfair because it's the only outlet that spends money to cover every game home and road).

So I was troubled that when I made my usual rounds of newspaper sites for my daily AFC East roundup, the WNY papers had a grand total of one story from Indianapolis on the game. It was a comprehensive story by Mark Gaughan, but as somebody who follows NFL coverage at dozens upon dozens of newspaper sites, one story was shocking to me. This is, after all, the NFL. And coverage from local media plays a role in how the league views a market.

I also have to say that there were zero blogs on the game as of 11 a.m. this morning. The Rochester D&C used an Associated Press report, which remains the lead story on the D&C site as I write this early Tuesday.

I must point out this is not a reflection of the reporters, who are disgusted at the constant layoffs and belt-tightening, particularly with travel. They want to be at the games and reporting the news for their readers. They take immense pride in their jobs. It's more a testament to the sad state of the newspaper industry and mismangement. The Buffalo News just offered 108 buyouts. The Palm Beach Post, where I most recently worked before joining ESPN.com, cut 135 of 299 editorial jobs a couple weeks ago.

The way I view it, the reader is getting screwed.

So I made a comment on my AFC East roundup today that it was disconcerting to see such a lack of coverage on the most important preseason game of the year (and the scariest injury of preseason).

And the response pretty much was to go screw myself.

Please tell me I haven't totally misread Buffalo after spending eight years there. You really do want more coverage, right?

I've noticed that Western new York has become more of a hockey than football area. I used to listen to excelent coverage of the Bills traing camp, for example, on WGR before the current management took over. Now most of their on-air guys and reporters are hockey-first fellas. Same with Leo Roth of Rochester D&C; he used to write about football, but now it's mostly hockey. Maybe the Bills just need to be better to turn around the situation, but I have a feeling that these people just believe they will lose the Bills when Ralph dies, so what's the point in being a devoted NFL fan. Hope I'm wrong about this, but that's what I am sensing.

Sorry to hear that the print media is in such sad shape, with all the cut-backs.

  9. Just curious.

Even if I did think Peters deserved a new contract, I wouldn't give him one until he proved to me that his groin has healed and he is the same guy as he was before he was injured. Maybe that is exactly why he won't report...he hasn't recovered. Why throw good money after a question mark who won't even honour his contract?

  10. This team is ready to take a quantum leap this year barring injuries. Will Jauron be ready to step up to the plate or will he wilt? I'm confident in the defense being solid, special teams spectacular and the offense being downright explosive. My only question at this time is will Jauron play conservatively or will he be willing to be a little flambouyant this year?

The only way we have a Ferrari is if we play a base 4=wide featuring Mr. Roscoe Parrish. Instead, we will will have a more balanced attack with some 4-receiver sets, some three and plenty of two (with either two tight ends or one and a fullback). I think our best chance is to pass, pass, pass, but doubt if Dick will let Turk step on the gas.

  11. Figured I'd start it early.

QB: Trent Edwards, J.P. Losman, Gibran Hamdan

HB: Marshawn Lynch, Fred Jackson, Xavier Omen. Dwayne Wright

TE: Robert Royal, Derek Schouman, Derek Fine

WR: Lee Evans, James Hardy, Josh Reed, Roscoe Parrish, Steve Johnson, Justin Jenkins

OL: The givens, plus backups. (Peters, Dock, Fowl, But, and Walk, along with Preston, Whittle, and Chambers)

DE: Chris Kelsay, Aaron Schobel, Ellis, and Ryan Denney. and Rian Neill

DT: John McCargo, Marcus Stroud, Kyle Williams, and Spencer Johnson

LB: John DiGiorgio, Paul Posluszny, Kawika Mitchelll, Keith Ellison, Angelo Crowell, Jon Banks.

CB: Terrence McGee, Jabari Greer, Leodis McKelvin, Reggie Corner, Willl James, and Ashton Youboty.

Safety: Donte Whitner, Ko Simpson, John Wendling, George Wilson, Bryan Scott.

    K: Rian Lindell

    P: Moorman

    KR/PR: Terrence, Roscoe/Leodis.

Just want to see who you think makes it.

Good sense of the team's talent. I suspect that Alvin Bowen (SP?) will be our 6th linebacker and a good ST player instead of Banks. Don't think we need a 6th WR, so Jenkins might be gone. Don't forget we need a fullback, probably Barnes.

  12. Well, if Evans held out, you'd have Parrish, Reed and Hardy.

If Peters held out, you'd have Kirk Chambers.

I'd rather my QB throw to an Evans-less group of receivers than a Peters-less bunch of Olinemen.

Therefore, priority #1 is extending Mr. Peters (sounds kind of like a spam email).

WHILE PETERS AND EVANS sit on the shelf waiting for the season to start ,you gotta wonder , who really should be the guy to cash in this year?

while no doubt the MOSS and TO ...etc.. ARE impact players .IS EVANS? In todays NFL it seems the the wandering gypsy wr make as much or bigger impact the home grown wrs... so do you give a Evans 8-9-10 million a yr ."to be happy"

only MARVIN HARRISON comes to mind as that type player who grew through the team to get mega bucks.. it very rare,, the years future "gyspy i s Chad Johnson.. so does ateam choose a EVANS 9 milion + or chase "a" JOHNSON for less.5-6-7? million?

AS for top linemen ie .. PETERS , they seem rarer than ever and usually stay where they started if the moneys there .

SO I guess my question is do we really need to SIGN BOTH EVANS AND PETERS TO LONG TERM MEGA DEALS??/

I still have a problem with the idea of giving PETERS A 9 MILION $ a year deal that isnt based on incentives the first cple years .... He is still somewhat unseasoned at LT and he wants to be paid PACE OR WALTER JONES type dollars.. HE MAY BE WORTH IT NOW!,,,,,,, BUT ,, so far ,,if it was my cash I want more exsperience to prove it..

thats the way I see it " FROM THE STANDS"

  13. Defense

    DE Denny, Ellis

    DT Williams Johnson

    LB DiGiorgio, Ellison, Bowen

    S Wendling, Wilson

    CB Greer, James

    Offense

    Tackle Chambers, Bell

    Guard Whittle, Preston

    Center Gaddis

    TE Schouman

    WR Hardy, Parrish, Johnson

    RB Jackson

    QB Losman

Forgetting about special teams, which should be good as usual, what are your thoughts on this lineup as an indication of team depth?

I know there aren't many names here who would start on other teams, but it seems fairly solid to me, pretty good insurance against injury, and should provide a little heat on our so-called starters. Several guys, like Greer, Denney and Parrish could probably have been listed as starters, same with Williams and James. Hopefully, the one guy who does jump into a starter's position is Hardy, but who knows?

By themselves these backups wouldn't win one game, but coming off the bench they wouldn't hurt us too much. The most vulnerable position would be left tackle. If Peters holds out or isn't healthy, it's over.

  14. I like the way you have laid it out. It would be nice to follow your logic. We could, however, always lose games to teams like the 49ers and Rams, so I am just hoping for a 10-6 season and a wild card slot. It will all depend on Trent and Dick: are they NFL winners or not? It's that simple. My gut says that they are, but time will tell. No reason, with this schedule, that this team loses more than six games. Don't think they'll go much further into the playoffs, however, because they still don't have the receivers to win in the clutch, IMHO.

    12- 4 wild card team

We should sweep miami, and the jets imo, should beat the raiders, cards, broncos, chiefs, 9ers, and rams. This leaves us needing to pick up two games from tough opponents. I think we beat the browns at home on monday night, based on an inferior team last year taking the much superior cowboys to the wire at home on monday night due to sheer adreniline. We are improved and at least evenly matched with the browns imo. I also think this is the year we finnaly split with the pats, I see McKelvin staying with moss, McGee on their No 2, and greer handeling welker in the slot, which is usually a mismatch, greer is a great cover guy and size will not hurt him in this match up. That leaves us at 12-4 with losses to the pats, jacksonville, SD, and the inevitable slip game, where we do something that we shouldnt like lose to the jets, in NJ, One home playoff game and then who knows?

  15. Look up "sanctimonious" and then shut up.

The next defense from the crowd: blame me. I'm being unfair and apparently hypocritical even though I don't know it yet.

I'm well aware that Lynch will almost certainly never see jail time if he was driving or just obstructing justice. Despite that fact, if he's guilty he gotta' go. It won't work, he'll never live it down and he won't be allowed to forget it so why pretend? The path this team has taken with regard to character is defined and it has shaped them for better or worse. Hit and run is damn near the height of poor character, it's short of rape and murder, but it's in that ballpark. It's really hard to see this one being accepted.

And with each passing day and no talk to authorities it looks more and more like Lynch and his attorney are not trying to minimize damage, but to deny any responsibility or knowledge of the event at all, even though at the very least he knows who did it or who the prime suspects are. That will keep you out of court, but it won't earn you any respect.

  16. Ah, the old, when someone lines up reality and logic against your argument, dismiss and ignore them as if they didn't exist. The problem is, P-Girl is right. There are a lot of coaches who, by your logic should never have gotten a second chance to coach in the NFL. I'm not saying that Jauron is the next Belicheat or Marv Levy, but let's see what he does this year with his best team in years on the field. If Buffalo tanks, and there aren't really a lot of injuries, then it is certainly legitimate to criticize Jauron and call for his head. Until we see how the team he has put together performs, it's a bit early to judge.

To address the original post, I think TE's play will dictate how the season goes. I think if he can be an average starting QB this team can win 9 games. If he plays just a bit better than average, we could win 10 or 11 games and make the playoffs. I expect the D will play well. Jauron's decision making the play calling strategy of TS will also dictate. I think you hit the issue right on the money. I do, however, have that same feeling that the Bills might surprise some people this year and make the playoffs.

Thanks. What I find amusing is that the old steel town of Buffalo, blue-collar as can be, finds itself waiting for the performances of two intellectuals from Stanford and Yale.

  17. Things are in place for the Bills to make the playoffs this year. The defense is now talented and deep; we have new offensive threats, plus a co-ordinator; players were drafted to re-fill the ST ranks; starters are returning from injuries. Everything adds up to more wins this year than last.

Still, I can't help thinking that making the playoffs depends largely on whether Edwards performs like a kid (which he still is) or quickly develops into a superior QB in the league and whether Jauron continues to make bone-headed decisions like the one not to coverage short sideline passes against Dallas or improves as a game-time manager.

Right now, I think Trent will perform effectively and Jauron will be slightly better on game day and the Bills will squeak into the [playoffs. [but I have to admit that neither has done anything in his career to justify my feeling.[/b]

    What do you think?

  18. Things are in place for a playoff season; we have talent and depth on defense; we have added receivers, running backs and tight ends on offense; we have drafted good replacement special teamers; plus, we have a number of starters returning from injury. Add this all up, and we SHOULD win more games than last year. I think, however, it will end up depending on Edwards' development and Jauron's game-day decisions.

If Trent plays like a kid (which he still is), there won't be any playoff this year. If Jauron doesn't make the most of his team's game situations, but instead blows calls like the horrible sideline pass coverage in the Dallas game, there won't be any playoff.

My feeling right now is that Edwards WILL make steady progress and Jauron will manage the games a bit better and the Bills will squeak into the playoffs.

But...I have NO basis for this belief whatsoever. Edwards and Jauron have done absolutely nothing in their respective careers to justify my faith. What are your thoughts on these two? Will they come through or not?

  19. It seemed tome at the time that every second day pick was a ST pick and that Bobby April was running our draft room. No need to worry about ST; it's the other two teams I hope we've improved/ Defense is deeper for sure.

We've talked a lot about how the Bills have addressed areas of need on offense and defense, and we've been guessing as to who will make the team.

Now let's have a look at the Bills special teams unit. This is an area that was hit hard this offseason. Even though Marv Levy is no longer a part of the team, he always stressed the importance of special teams. Dick Jauron is also very high on this matter too.

Here are the players the Bills have lost from this area: Josh Stamer, Coy Wire, Jim Leonhard, Sam Aiken, Ryan Neufeld, & Mario Haggan.

The only players I remember who saw time on special teams last year who remain on the team are: Derek Schouman, George Wilson, John Wendling, Blake Costanzo, & Tim Massaquoi.

Whether we like it or not, there will be players kept on the team because of their special teams play. That's why players like Aiken, Neufeld, and for a couple years Shaud Williams were able to stick with the team.

So what are your thoughts? Which players are going to have to make this team because of their special teams play?

My guess would be the 5 players I mentioned above and I'll add Alvin Bowen, Kennard Cox, Jon Corto, Justin Jenkins, Michael Viti, Derek Fine, Scott Mayle & Reggie Corner.
